Duff PCV valve symptoms?

Never changed one.

Its a pressure limiting valve to stop too much vacuum being applied to the crankcase.

When your on overrun, with lots of vacuum in the manifold, the pcv lets fresh air into the crankcase breather system to limit the maximum depression.

There is a couple of check valves under the manifold which stops the breather system getting pressurised when on boost. Those do fail and should be checked periodically and replaced.

There are two pipes off the underside of the inlet manifold.

One goes to a very obvious check valve, then off round the bulkhead to the tank vent system.

The other goes down to a rubber T Piece which connects to the main Z shaped breather pipe and the big steel pipe running to the PCV. The rubber T piece has a check valve in the end of it that goes to the manifold, if you look carefully you'll see its jubilee clipped into the T.
