Mono.pur

......I've gotta say Veeeight, speed bumps aren't a whole lot of fun even with mag-ride!!

And this is my major annoyance and gripe with the S3/RS3 setup.

On the same retail park, same speed bumps, a competitor car famed for a hard ride, managed to soak up those identical speed bumps far far better, without any drama, that the S3/RS3 (with mag ride in both settings) did!

Grrrrr.

Anyway. To the OP.
Forget about mono.pur if you like driving hard and fast, consider your suspension options.

I've noticed a big difference in ride behaviour between the MY15s we test drove versus our MY16 over same roads and speed humps

Same settings

Our MY16 doesn't pogo stick like the MY15s did and in dynamic, our car was more composed

Mine's MY16 too Warwick, no pogo stick here either...........I actually find it too hard on some speed bumps, even with drive select in comfort. No big deal tbh, generally avoid them anyway and I'm only really talking about the harsher variety of speed bumps.

I like to own a fast car, but if I am totally totally honest I drive like Miss Daisy most of the time. Certainly would never track a car of mine. I live no where near the countryside, so B road blasts are rare. Plenty of speed bumps on my journey to and from work mind you.

I tend to put my foot down more in short bursts, and in straight lines if I'm honest!

I shall chat to my dealer tomorrow about mag-ride. Could well be too late to change things anyway

Should still be time if you only ordered recently.

Mono.pur out the window, as is 700 watts... if I really need mag-ride

I drive over a lot of speed bumps with my MY16 + 19"s - no pogo effect either!

He claimed to have driven it for a week.... but he only measure it against the A3, not an S3 with non Mag-ride

I'd rely, as I said, on actual owners that have driven the car under various conditions for more than just a week (if he did in fact which I strongly doubt).

I watched that review a while back (whilst waiting for my car). Must say I thought it was overall useless :) - well, I just found he was an absolute knob ...

If you are on 19's, you want mag ride, even putting aside the customisation options it provides.

Unlike some posters here, I have owned and driven 16000 miles in an 8v S3 and have no issues with standard suspension . It is far better than the previous 8p version.

The previous model RS3 was firm without Mag ride however the 8v is a LOT better hence whilst a nice to have option may not be that necessary. Certainly my S3 was fine on standard set up.
As for the boring attack by one poster and his forever downer on S/RS 3 , I'm bored with the constant criticisms. For me both are great cars and streets ahead of the opposition unless you permanently plan to drive like a nob or on a track.

There. Corrected it for you. :D

Your constant downfall is to make your posts personal, do try to stick with talking about the cars, as opposed to trying to pick on individuals. :)

Mono pur is a bug bare of mine.

I really like it and it would annoy me if I didn't have it but begrudge paying £300 notes for it.

As with many of the options, it should be standard on the S3/RS3.

I have pondered many times taking it off my order out of principle but for now it remains :)

I got it included on my TTS & S5 as standard so I guess that adds to my mind set. Cost aside I do like it though as it compliments the stitching in the seats and steering wheel and adds an extra touch of class to the cabin.

And the worst thing about mono.pur in the A3/S3?
(Apart from having to pay for it!)

It's not even genuine leather! It's fake/synthetic leather look-alike!

£300 and you don't even get the genuine item!

FWIW, here's my tuppence:

  • Mono-Pur isn't worth it - glad I didn't spec it
  • B&O - again, not worth it over ***
  • Mag ride - wish I'd spec'd it...

As V8 says, S3 hasn't got the best dampers - it's fine for "normal" diving but if you start to push it on any sort of undulating surface, be prepared for some surprises!

Please don't get me wrong, I love the car and have no intention of changing - I'm being hyper-critical here...

The guy's a complete a jerk off, just happened to be one I remembered who gave a half decent explanation of mag ride!

OP has ruled out mono-pussy and BO so we don't need to keep bangin that drum..............mag-ride, not sure what more we can say apart from try it. One thing is for sure there are a fair number of members here who didn't spec it and wish they had..................

Just like a leather jacket: If I want one,
I will spend the money and get it.

But for fake leather, forget it. I wouldn't
even bother.

I would just add a small caveat here in potentially linking together cause and effect................. The Saloon S3 has mag ride as standard, as well as 19" wheels ..................... But it is also heavier......... (and will affect the damper characteristics)............... and also has a wider track than the HB/SB....................................... so it's difficult to say that a HB/SB with magride will make the car behave like a Saloon ............................. because it won't ................................. whilst mag ride will improve things .................... it won't suddenly cure it on a HB/SB ................................. will make it better though ............................ :footy::blink::whistle2::friends::rockwoot:

(****** hell, that was an effort, don't know how you do it :p )

Emm, you missed one or two 'mate' and 'fooks' ........................but overall a pretty good first effort!! The smilies were bang on :)
........actually, that was ****** funny V8 ;)

What you add to your car is your own prerogative but velvet, that is a 70's throwback :)

Lol. Sadly, the velvet comes as standard with the Nappa Seats!

I was being sarcastic, reminds me of the Sandman's that a local car manufacturer produced here in Aussie. Would suit V8 perfectly.

Edit - you do realise I'm in Aussie .....

On my S4 I spec'ed the equivalent (almost) pack to mono.pur on the A3/S3
BUT in my case the 'leather door armrests - front & rear' option is actually real leather not like you cheapo A3/S3 owners have :p :D
:laugh::laugh::laugh:
& I only paid £205 for the privilege too ;)

Just saying ... :eyebrows:

PS If I were ever to get a A3/S3 in the future I woulds probably spec it with mono.pur TBH
My first S3 saloon order didn't have it, but my second S3 saloon order did

Priority should be:

1) Mono Pur
2) B&O
3) Led Lights
4) MagRide.

Depends how you drive / what your preferences are as to what choice you ultimately make.
Good Luck !!
