Got a company coming out next week to do some body work for me. Having the rear arch, front bumper, and 2 alloys resprayed then she will look special again

I'm also going to do away with the rns-e unit as its a bit dated and doesn't really do what I want it to do so I've picked up a nice kenwood bluetooth, satnav,iPhone ready unit which I'm going to get in soon

ok guys so I've not been on here for a while so thought id update on where I'm at the minute

i did the stereo upgrade and fitted the new kenwood unit

its a brilliant unit and does everything i want it too

I've also had some new fresh paint on the car

i had the rear arch, front bumper and 2 alloys resprayed due to paint flake

a bit of bad news last weekend on my way home from seeing family in bedford was about 5miles from home and i noticed this high pitched squeal when coming off the gas pedal and the engine goes into vacuum. at first i thought oh my turbo is going
ohmy.png
then it got louder and louder and only did it once the engine was warm, so i did some research and i came across some really interesting posts and some good youtube videos of people having the same issue and a lot of people said it was due to be a faulty pcv valve on the vacuum system which sits just under the manifold. so i ordered a new valve and hey presto it sorted out my squealing problems
smile.png
. while i was there i replaced the prv valve which is the hockey puck snapped valve at the top of the engine and wow she runs so much smoother and cleaner
smile.png

this was the faulty valve as you can see it was smeared in oil which is also signs of a faulty valve

not sure if you can see from the photos but in the valve there is a little one way flap and that was stuck open and all loose

then after all was ok i gave her some tlc

and some new remote button lol

so i want to do a u.s sidelight mod

I came across a company that supply twin fill bulb holders with orange bulbs so basically you remove your old indicator bulb holder and wire this one into your indicator and sidelight giving you a 5w sidelight via the indicator bulb and a 21w for the indicator flash. It's a universal kit so I think it may take some fitting but I'm going to give it a go when I get a chance see how it comes out and looks ill keep you posted on this

right well we have an update
biggrin.png

i had quite a productive saturday afternoon i started off with a rocker cover gasket change as i had oil just sitting on top of my spark plugs and a little smearing around the back, i had to remove quite a bit to get to it

as you can see the old seal has had its day

nearly read for the new one

as the rocker cover was off it dawned on me i had some high temp paint in my garage and i wondered what it would look like a different colour
wink.png
(one of my bright stupid ideas
rolleyes.gif
)

this was first or second of a few coates

so back she started to go

the rocker cover finish isn't brilliant but i think it looks ok for a quick spray job and adds a bit of colour to the engine bay

so that was the first job of the day out of the way
wink.png

the 2nd was to attempt to fit these sidelight holders

i knew they was just a universal kit so the chances of them fitting the back of the a4 headlights first time was pretty slim
blink.png
and my thoughts were correct
sleep.png
they didn't.

the actual bulb holder size is spot on the same as the original audi bulb holder but unfortunately the fixing points was different. at the moment i have put them in and held them with a tiny bit of plastic model glue which is holding them fine and just right if i needed them out again
biggrin.png
until i can make a little arm bracket up to secure them properly which is another days job

i had to hard wire them in as he original audi indicator bulb holder makes its contact as it goes into the headlamp so i ran a new cable to the otherside of the headlight plug using my multimeter with the indicators on to see what wire had power and for the sidelight i just used the live from the 501 bulb holder that is already supplied for the sidelight
biggrin.png
. all wired in and looking good with no bulb out warning lights.

unfortunately i didn't get no photos of the install of these as i didn't quite have enough hands
rolleyes.gif

some photos for you

you don't really notice the 5w in the daylight to much but as you can see when the light drops that look great imo
biggrin.png

and today i got a little video while i was in tescos carpark with sidelights on and me locking and unlocking the doors so you can see the indicator brightness over the sidelight

all comments welcome good or bad i know they won't be everyones cup of tea but i like them

replaced some old hose clips with some shiny new ones along the way

I'm very happy today and the reason being a couple of owners of my car back funny enough i know him and he sent me a message in the week saying he was having a garage clear out and came across a new never fitted painted roof spoiler and a paint chip kit for when he had my car and never used and did i want them for £20!!!!!!!!

obviously i bit his hand of for them and i went to collect them today

when i come to fit the spoiler I've been told to heat it up so its floppy and then it will bend into shape a lot better but I'm not sure where to line it up.

do i line it up to the back window and leave a gap for the window seal or do i but it up to the roof??

any advise would be appreciated guys

heres what i mean

i also got some of these cree led headlight bulbs they fit great and look good I've got a before and after photo

the only thing is they put on a bulb warning light on which i thought they would I've got some load resisters aswell and when i fit one with a resister the warning lights go but the resisters get HOT so I've taken them out again until i can work out where to mount this resister away from anything plastic or painted or find another way around the issue but i think they will look good once done ill keep this posted on my findings

fitted these today after work i suppose there is a little more stiffness feels more responsive

so i couldn't really find anything else other than running these new bulbs with load resistors to keep the bulb warning lights off so i went for it and fitted them with the load resistors this is how i managed to fit the resistors without them touching anything as they get very hot

im not sure what went in this little pot originally but what ever it was someone has already removed it so i was managed to use it

Just to keep this alive a couple of pictures no major changes just keeping it clean

Nice ride and interesting read. With regard to the company that came out and touched up your rear arch, alloys etc, how did that go? Was it a local firm or a nationwide company, may look at something similar myself.

Thank you I try keep this thread updated. The company that came out was called scuffs and scratches they was very good done amazing job and it's still good today the colour match was 100% and you can't even see any work has been done I think they are a local based company covering most of Kent I highly recommend them

So I've done another little cheeky mod today.

I've always thought the little red alarm led in the door card was a bit naff and the car sometimes gets parked in shall we say not the best of areas

So I ordered a 5mm and a 3mm purple led with a holder and thought I'd change it

7797e4bbb2964c5aceadae71d6291aaf.jpg
I ordered 2 different sizes to see what the best size was the 5mm fitted perfectly

075453c6a5cdd1c44a8626393af17f0b.jpg

So now I have a lovely bright flashing purple led in the window just to show its alarmed

So I've been having an issue but I hope I've sorted it now

My issue was every time I started the car from a cold start I was getting a brake warning light flashing three times with three beeps in the centre of the dials. So I checked all the obvious things brake pads sensors and fluid all seemed fine so I read up on here about the fault and a lot of people say if your Battery is old and struggling when you start your car it spikes a brake sensor. So I picked up a new battery fitted it yesterday which wasn't as straight forward as I'd hoped lol having to remove quite a bit just to get the old one out and the first cold start this morning and no brake warning fault so fingers crossed that was the problem. The old battery was about 5 years old so I shall keep this posted

Lovely car mate,

I shall be stealing your 5mm alarm LED mod idea ;)

Thank you matey

Haha no worries it's a great little mod and really looks better at night. I just got them from eBay but get the ones with the plastic holder otherwise the led will full through the door card

So a little update/teaser for you guys!!!

I came home tonight to find boxes of some good stuff

Keep posted for the updates

It sits spot on as it is, why put it on bags, are they a comfier ride?

I've heard it can be a better ride but that's not the reason I went for it. I know a lot of people slag off air ride kits but to be honest it's something I've always wanted to do just never had the money. so when im old and grey I can look back and say i did that and I got offered such a good deal and while I had the funds I thought why not

I'll still drive the same height as now just air out when parked

It's something I'd really fancy doing too funds allowing, they look good starting up and shutting down plus it's something nobody else has, good luck with it, looking forward to seeing it.

cheers mate I'm going to try and fit it or get it fitted end of this year not sure if i want to tackle it myself yet or not lol

Just read up on your build, really like your motor mate! It sits great but I'm sure the air will make it look even more awesome.

How're you getting on with the fitting? I suppose no recent updates either means it's not finished or it is and its pukka so you're out there driving it..

My motor also has that empty cage behind the n/s headlight, would also like to know what option normally fills it. I stuck my hid ballast there but ended up getting loads of issues.

I'd love to go as low as you are but I already scrape a fair bit just on B5 perches, particularly on the mountain drop curb on/off my drive. Do you have many scraping issues?

Hey bud thanks for the comment I'll be honest I haven't even started fitting it due to work commitments I think I'm going to get it into a garage to get it all done professionally I would like to do it myself but just haven't got the time at the minute. I can't wait to get it all done end of this year or very early next year and it will be done. Don't worry I'll make sure there is a photo or 2 of it all done lol.

When fitting aftermarket hid kits to the b6 if you have the ballast too close to the abs pump it can cause all sorts of issues.

Mine doesn't scrap that much every now and then, I can run 4/5 people and still be good with only a slight tiny rear arch rub on bigger bumps or road dips. I love the way it sits static and once the air is done I'll run the same height just when parked I'll air is out and lay frame hahaha

I've just had a little read through your project thread mate it's a good read your car is looking really smart. Is yours a 1.8t as well some of your photos I can't see for some reason. I've been thinking of doing the oil pick up pipe change and as its due a service might get it all done the same time as getting the air fitted by the garage is it a must getting the pipe change you think or a not to worry thing?

I would bare minimum get a garage to do the oil pressure test seen here mate in section 7, some really good info and pictures in that thread.

However, you can pretty much tell from your logbook whether you will have the issue, anything over 12,000 miles between services (oil changes) is suspect. But yours is much lower mileage so you could probably save/prevent it now by using the right oil and changing it regularly from now on, mine was about 180,000 miles when it happened.

The pick up tube is a bad design so I would definitely look at getting it done at the 150,000 mile mark regardless.

By scraping I meant contact with the floor, ie- subframe on a speed bump, is that what you were saying or did you mean scrubbage?

Wow that's a great thread some really good information there. I see your photos when you cleaned the old sludge out your rocker cover when it was off when I had mine off I didn't have anything like that in mine was all clear and the car has always had 10 to 12k services and the guy that had it before me did it every 5k for a couple of years. It's just on its 10k now and is due a service that's why I was thinking of getting the pipe replaced. I've seen a little sludge in the vacuum system when I had it stripped down but tried to remove most of it. Other than the odd slight lumpy idle every now and then it runs spot on but I'm sure a set of plugs would help that. If you fancy a little pocket money I'll come over and we can tackle it together lol.

I very rarely bottom out and touch the floor only if I'm pulling into a car park or up a dropped curb on a driveway. I get the front bumper touching on speed bumps but that's about it mate

Sounds like yours has been well looked after mate and is unlikely to have the issue but if you're still keen I definitely don't mind doing it in my garage. It's just time that's the issue at the moment, not enough of it haha so I'm not sure exactly when we'd get around to it.

Yeah my front bumper touches everything, the bottom of it is wrecked. But I suppose that's the price you pay for the look so I'll take those coilies off your hands when you fit the air haha :friendly wink:

I think I would get it done as a precaution when your free there is no rush mate I'm going to give it an oil change Saturday and change plugs and fuel filter while I'm there. We could tackle it together in a couple of months if that's good with you bud and if I get the naughty oil light on before then I'll give you a shout lol. I work for a recovery firm so I've got my own recovery truck at home I could bring it down on that but hope it don't come to that haha.
I was only thinking earlier what to do with the coilovers once the air is on I think I'd hang on to them for a couple of months just so I know the air is all ok and working well then I'll probably sell them. They are a good set damper adjustable, never had any problems with them they was on the car when I bought it off my mate and they wasn't a cheap set from what I was told

So the car had a service today while I was doing it I had a good chance to have a good look over it and under it and was quite impressed with what I see or didn't see.

The underside is still in good shape no oil leaks the oil that came out was a little dark but no sludge came out and was in quite good condition and on my magnetic sump plug there was no metal filings. While I was there I removed both headlights and took off the orange sidelight kit and put a nice set of white led side bulbs in for a change.

The service book has been stamped for another year which all helps when looking back through its book it has had a couple of 20k services early on in its life but for the last 4-5 years it's always been done every 8-10k sometimes every 5k so hopefully there isn't much sludge build up yet and will last till the summer when I'll get the pick up pipe changed
