So after some discussion myself and my girlfriend have taken on a Labrador, which is great right up until it comes to putting it in the car.

I have a A3 3door and I am wondering whats my best course of action as far as protecting the car and the dog. I have looked at everything from universal car boot liners to fully built cages that cost ££££ serious money.
Basically I am after finding out what works and what doesn't and whats a complete waste of time and what over priced??

If you have any experience with fitting a dog into an A3 and keeping both safe then please give me your opinions. And if you don't still feel free to offer me your suggestions.

Cheers Tom.

We've had our German pointer in our s3 sportsback for 5 years with no cage with no problems. We just have and boot liner tray about £60 with get bedding in there and it's been fine

At most a dog guard is all you'll need, dogs shouldn't really have masses of room to roam about in in the boot of the car so what ron burgandy said above is perfect.

Forgot to say we have two terriers that like to jump over the seats so the guard was essential.

I've got a labrador and he's fine in my 3door s3. When he was a pup we had him in a cage for a couple of months until he got to big for it. Then I put a dog guard in and the boot liner, and now I don't even need the dog guard. He just stays in the boot. A liner is essential though, especially with a flap to protect your bumper when there getting in and out.

Thanks for the help guys.

audismart how well did the boot liner fit? im keen on having this as clean and tidy looking as possible.

Look on bootbuddy website they do fully fitted boot liners to fit your car they are spot on

I just stick her bed in the boot of my A3 3dr and she's happy. She's a Portuguese Water Dog x Collie so about the same size as a lab.

I got a dog guard from one of my wife's mates. I'm pretty sure she said it was an Audi part, but I have never looked for a number.
Best fitting dog guard I have tried.
Fold down back seats, set the guard in on existing seat brackets, fold the seat back up and Fido is secure.
Cost me £50.00, I think, about £100.00 new for a 3 door.

I have 3 spaniels and a 5 door a3 I have a boot protected covering the whole back of the car works great I also go shooting so my dogs work and are usually pitted and keeps my car clean!!
