Handling...first port of call?

Hi all, current have an S3 on 165k. It had a top end rebuild and refurbed turbo at 125k by previous owner. I've serviced basically everything and sorted out all major problems. Additional I've added the following:

Stage 1 Map
Badger 5 TIP
Cone filter
FMIC

Before I go for a DP and stage 2 map I'd like to improve the handling. Tbh the suspension feels very tired... I don't think any of the bushes have ever been replaced! I am noticed a lot of understeer aswell... What would be the first thing to look at replacing? Would it be worth taking it somewhere and ask them to inspect the stats of my bushes first?

I currently have a good set of contisports all round but still the handling feels lacking. Is it also normal for the haldex to kick in, in a laggy manner?

Bushes, bearings and links should be first imo.

You can buy lots of expensive suspension, roll bars etc, but if they aren't mounted solidly they will still feel ****. Start with the basics.

I just replaced front and rear drop links and front roll bar bushes. Comes to about £30 in parts - makes the car feel much tighter.

Hints:
If the existing drop links only have an allenkey hole in end be prepared to grind them off, make sure you pick replacement ones without that stupid setup.

Buy some longer m8 bolts to pull anti roll bar bushes clamps into place otherwise you will struggle to get the new bolts in.

I will be checking wheel alignment next but tyres were my biggest benefit for handling.

I'd also replace top mounts, wishbone bushes, trailing arms bushes, tie bars bushes & ball joints

on my passenger side top of the suspension makes a squeaky rubber straining sound if I turn the wheels direction by hand and the car is on axel stands? is that a top mount or part of the insert or what? it sounds uncomfortable and doesn't do the same on the drivers side suspension.
