The price to put a chip into an me3.8 in australia is just too much and most of the time is a generic map without a dyno tune. Is about 1500 for decent one. I belive about 700 punds.

I see uk ads all the time for 2 or 300 pound chips.

Can i get an ecu from uk, get someone to chip it(obv without dyno tune) remove the immo and drop straight in my car without issue?

This will essentially be the same service i can get here for around half my local price

Can this be done?

1998 agu

Well.
For my 1999 tdi i bought an ebay mpps cable for 8 quid. Read my Ecu and sent the file to the tuner. He modified it for 45 quid and sent the file back. I flashed it on my car and got + 23kw.

For standard engine they all are pretty much generic ones with little tweaks and optimisations for specific model.

For 300+£ i imagine they check engine condition, leaks, pressure and everything including dyno test before and after with warranty.

Your 300 pound over here will get me a weekend warrior with a laptop on ebay selling "custom maps"

Hence why i am checking this avenue.

The agu me3.8 ecu cant be mapped via obd port unless you rewire something. So i think me getting files and what not may be difficult.

I am looking for a stage 2 straight away so i dont have to worry about this again later on

Me3.8.3 can be mapped via the socket, its only early agu ecu's that are me3.8.2 that can't be socket flashed as the chip on them isn't rewrite-able.

The most a stock ko3 can flow reliably is 170 G/S so is anything other than a generic map really needed?

You can get an immo off ecu with a flash for about £150, not sure about postage to Australia (thats easier than either getting Vag tacho and vcds to swap the immo over on a fresh ecu or getting the immo flashing hardware and desoldering the immo chip to flash the immo off before desoldering)

Agu only needs vcds to adapt immobiliser in instrument cluster no vag tacho required

whats your last two letters from ECU?

My ecu is ending in AQ and as I've heard is only mappable by solder in new chip. But when I bought the car it was mapped 201.7 bhp with a print out. The ecu looks like it's never been opened and I can turn map between stock and mapped with the dis. I often wondered how they mapped my car?
A friend bought the same ecu from dark-tech for £110 from eBay. Although it's quicker than it was it got nowhere near the mid range torque I have. I can accelerate from 40 to 130 alot faster. I guess it all depends on map

What engine code?

AGU. Only mods I know of are map, vr6 clutch g60 flywheel, forge 007. Intake manifold has a valve of some sort on top Which I've seen on no others. Used to have carbon intake but took it off. High milage of 176,000

Optimistic rolling road mate not a chance in hell if 201 bhp from a ko3 unless it's been changed for a ko3s .... Pic of this valve?

It's a k03 like you say, I've been told this before that 201 bhp would be difficult. However as I say it's a lot quicker than a friends which is a supposed 190bhp. I have never been able to check if the turbo has ever been changed to k03s? I will photo the valve this afternoon when I go to garage as it's freezing and I'm in my Jim jams :)

Would a original k03 make it to 176,000 just looking at service history it has stacks of receipts but can't find anything to do with a new turbo?

How do you swap between tunes on the ME3.8.3? Never heard of dual maps on this ecu.

In OBD1 BMW's i know they can solder on a special multi chip that can switch tunes by directing the ecu to different chips. So I guess it could be like that.

The stock AQ ecu is definately flashable through the port, I have same ECU
BUT some tuners used to solder their own chips in which then can't be reflashed.

Borg Warner rate the stock ko3 at 0.17 kg/s of air, thats 170 G/s, in theory thats enough for 210hp......

Most will never reach near that though, the engine would need to be in perfect health with perfect hardware and a stiff actuator.

Did you just take it to be mapped or did you need to do the 12v wire mod? When my ignition amp blew my brother who works for jaguar said the wiring had been spliced under the scuttle and ran off but said if it wasn't broke he wasn't about to disturb it. Maybe there is some kind of piggy back device?

The actuator has definately been replaced as you can see how new it is.

I've got an adapter cable that goes between the mpps cable and the obd2 port which does the 12v mod for me, I can flash tunes myself if needed.

yea, i have aq as well and it is mappable by 12v+ to pin 43 ecu,. Since you are in aussie, there is a guy that wll do this remotly. What you need to do is know how to flash you ecu or someone can do it for you. You need to have wideband gauge and vagcom to pull logs. He will do map pernyou hw spec, send you map, you flash it run it and pull log for him and he will do this back and forth untill you are happy with the tune. His price is 250 euros.

I recently bought from Dark Tech (on my essexman thread), Any stock power & torque i had has been improved greatly throughout the range, Lovely, feels soo much better than what it was, someone mentioned less midrange up there ^ but maybe my map was different from dark tech!? 40mph in 3rd- floor it- 19psi & pulls hard, alot better than what it was, lovely, maybe my other little mods help a bit i dont know,

But if the £150 ecu can be posted to aus, i can only reccomend it, saved me any hassle & was plug & play (literaly play :p )
