I want to get some leather recaros for my B7 2.0tdi 170. Is there anything I need to do to get them to fit or is it a bolt in and plug in. I know I'd need to get a new heater unit if I want the heated seats to work. The seats I'm looking at are out of a B6.

Cheers guys

Yes you need to get yourself a very large credit card limit

Why's that? Are they a nightmare?
These are S4 seats not the wing backs out of the RS4

Oh right thought you were talking rs4 seats.

Tbh honest I don't know what's involved mate, but I guess unless the electrics are different (requiring new wiring harnesses) it's going to be a straight swap

My Recaros just bolted and plugged straight in although my car doesn't have heated seat controls and as I wasn't bothered about having the seats heated I chose not to bother buying the additional looms required to do that.
As for the adjustment electrics there are 2 paths you can take, an expensive way or a cheap way. The wiring required is basically the same but the cabling is heavier gauge to account for the additional load so you can buy new looms from Kufatec or you can do as I did plus many others and just plug into your existing wiring and only upgrade the fuse(one for each side) to a slightly larger one.
Many will flame you for taking the "cowboy" approach if you chose to take the cheap and easy way to fitting but you'll probably find that those people have no idea of what currents the seats draw. When you take the heating side of things out of the equation the current draw is actually pretty low on the individual motors plus I knew in my car they'll be adjusted once in a blue moon. The only time the current gets on the high side is when your seat reaches the end of it's travel so the motor is effectively fighting against seat at it's maximum physical adjustment so you need to avoid that for prolonged times. I also wouldn't adjust say the back rest whist moving the seat back and forward, try to stick to adjusting one element at a time instead of using multiple motors, this will keep the current draw down.

This is what the guys saying in terms of B7 and B6 seats. The B7 seats are £200 more. Does any of this ring true or is he just trying to get the extra cash out of me?

If you are fitting them into a B7 car then it is MUCH easier (plug and play) if you fit B7 seats. Otherwise you will need to fit the passenger occupancy sensor under the leather, plus wiring for the passenger seatbelt inside the seat on a B6 set.

If your car is B6 then you can fit B6 or B7 seats plug and play.

Not strictly true.
I had a set of the S4 Recaros from a b6 in my b7. All i had to do was take the seatbelt chime loom and transfer that across from my b7 seats - taking about 20secs - and put a bigger fuse in. I read somewhere that the same gauge cable is used for the electric seats as the electric lumbar support. the gauge cable is only increased where heated seats are concerned.

I have read of the B6 air bag issue but mostly on US cars. You can fit a resistor to cheat the car which turns off the airbag light but that obviously disables the passenger airbag. There are "how to's" around on how to swap the bladder from your old seats into the B6 ones to get the system to work properly tho. Suppose it would be easy to see if his seats are affected as there won't be a yellow plug on the passenger one.

This is all good stuff for me to look out for. Cheers. Why can't things be simple! Lol
