TQS track car project - extremely slow progress

Maybe they will be able to make one which is exact same size? 78mm top and 60mm bottom. They have in specials that they can do any springs.

Yep quite possibly, but i imagine its easier (and thus cheaper) for them to make a 75mm parallel spring, rather than a tapered spring with 78 at one end and 60 at the other.
Maybe not ofcourse, i guess you'd have to ask them.

Decided it is time to put the avus with normal tyres back on the car for winter.

And got a bit annoyed.
Put one of each wheels on scale and a result:
Avus with road tyre 21.1kg
"Lightweight" Sparco with semi slick 21.8kg ! WTF

That's my first though, but I will find out when I will be getting new tyres on. Even if it is a heavier tyre, avus should be good on track with f1's for wet track days.

Would you look at running nitrogen may help keeping the tyres balanced for expansion

I had a chat with guys that prep race MX5's and they said that they drop pressure on NS2R's really low at the start. Even down to 15PSI. Obviously mx5 is a lot lighter but definitely something I need to look into so that I don't kill the tyres.

15's probably a bit low.

Start with high 20's. Do a few laps, let the tyres down to 30, do some more, let it down to 30, repeat. You'll eventually stabilise at 30psi with a hot tyre. If its damp, the tyre will run much cooler and you wont need to let much out of it. You'll also need to lower the fronts more than the rears.

Once you've got it stabilised, you can see where it drops to when the tyre is cold after the session and can use that as a starting point next time.

Yeah. I was keeping them at around 30psi at Mallory, but still half the tyre disappeared. Might simply be too soft for A4.

Yeah 15psi may be a bit low for the A4. Thats around what the Minis and Clios use when on A048s but obviously they are a decent chunk lighter and a higher performance tyre. Jock the Dog on SRS may have the pressures he uses on his S4 at knockhill available.
My friend who used to race the Minis and has a Clio Cup for fun now runs them at that and I was surprised how low we started out. We were lapping around the 1:40 mark in amongst the other cars. Brakes were the thing holding him back after 5 laps. He had Ferodo 5.1 Fluid with DS2500 pads and the pedal was going a bit soft. We bled them a few times but I think the fluid was the issue and Motul dot 4 660 stuff is better.

Edit 15 is too low for the Mini etc too! we started at 24psi, apologises! Think the tyres were 15psi before we put air in.

I think dropping it to 27psi before doing first 10 laps is good enough. I didn't have to change pressures much to be honest. Was doing 15 laps at a time just to keep things cool. Brakes were getting really noisy after that. Was planning to get brake ducts done this year but never got to it. My plan was to put naca ducts on the side of bumper where the "rs4 style" bits are, but I would have to relocate washer bottle to do that.

No chance to fit anything instead of the IC duct.

One option is to completely remove bumper bar and cut in couple of ducts, or get a square screen wash bottle with different pump and relocate it to the boot, together with battery to save some more weight at the front. Again, something to see when I get the corner weight figures.

surely you can squeeze in some flexi hose round the outside of that intercooler pipework then round into the arch liner?

A couple of scoops where the fogs used to be and its sorted.

Had a look at it.
I guess I can squeeze a duct in there.

that really does stick out doesnt it!

I suppose it doesnt matter given the cars purpose, you could probably tidy it up a bit with some hard pipe and make some more space.

The right side isn't that bad. Left side is worse as it goes down too much.

I'm not too much fussed about it at the moment as the piping will change for bigger turbo anyway.

What I might do, is cut 15cm of bumper bar on both ends and put something like this in the bumper. Plenty of space there

Hmm. Does it make a difference if the bottle is from car with headlight washers? I dont think relocating the bottle would be a big job. Just extend wires for the pump and the hose to washers. As soon as I get the b7 sorted I will get the bumper off and have a closer look at the best sollution.

Interesting. Might be the sollution

Maybe try and incorporate something like this into the under tray at the vent holes ??

And then make something for the hub with some back plates ?

You could maybe fit a cupra splitter and feed it to the undertray from the centre of the splitter ?

I will be getting a splitter made next year. Don't use undertray at the moment because of aftemarket bumper and big *** FMIC.

This duct on the hub looks sexy but can't figure out how it is mounted.

Although the CF is lovely, I think this will be a lot easier and cheaper to make.

I think both should be good enough. With this above you could probably squeeze another duct lower.

I wonder if the phaeton ones would fit with 18Z caliper or would still have to be cut/ modified.

The pheaton ducts look like the best option to me didnt know they existed till you mentioned it kev

Very simple and no need for piping in my eyes and look like theres little modifying needed to fit them.

the modifying is becuase the pheaton upright is slightly different to the A4 one, so your just cutting away bits where they collide.

I'm not sure about them because i'm only running a small disk, and i suspect they'll hang over the edge and as a result might not be that effective.

I've not managed to find anyone whos fitted them with a ~320mm disk yet. Most folk have RS4/RS6 brakes.

I think prawn used 1.5mm thick steel to do his. Should cost similar money to the phaeton ones.

I was driving the B5 all week. With now half the day being dark, I am really annoyed with the headlights.
Factory fitted xenons but there is barely any light coming out of them.
I had them adjusted during MOT so they are set up correctly.
It is so bad, that if there is car behind me with xenons, I can see shade of my car in front.
The driver's side headlight has part of it's beam going straight to the floor, but at the same time part where it should go normally.
I'm not sure how it is possible with projector lens?
Both bulbs have been changed for new last year.

It looks ok against the wall, but it is like big part of it goes straight to the ground.
