I would love to know if anyone has used a baby seat in their sportback and how easy/difficult it is to sort? Does it damage the leather at all?

Not a baby seat as my little girl was two when got our 8v S3 but from a bigger and heavier seat I find the isofix takes most of the weight and when ever I remove the seat I'm always amazed the seat isn't marked, having said that it was an expensive seat meaning the design of the base is good I'm not so sure how some of the cheaper varieties would fair. As our spare seat always marks my dads A4 leather seats even after the shortest of trips, hope this is helpful

I have a reacaro isofix and the grey recaro base protector no stress no damage

Sorry to be a party pooper but totally the wrong type of car for a new family in my opinion.

Yer far better off with an SUV/4x4 type run around that you can just chuck all all the kiddies clobber in and you won't give a s**t if they puke on yer seats or scuff anything!!

I can't think of anything worse than having to worry about my pride and joy getting wrecked................not to mention you probably won't get time to keep it looking nice.

Do yer penance in a knackered old wreck for a few years and save the decent cars for later!!! ;) (alternatively ignore this miserable old git ........................it's a free world after all)

I have 2yr old and one on the way. Sportback was as close to a family wagon as I was prepared to go!

Mini me fits in easy, boot could be a little bigger though. Apart from that no issues.

Ok...I'm a bit OCD when it comes to car seats!
You definitely need isofix...it is the only really safe way to attach a car seat. Yeah, people used seatbelts for years but that doesn't mean they were the best.

For the first 9-12months you would be best to go with an isofix base/removable baby carrier setup that can also go onto a pram. We use Maxi Cosi...the base stays in the car(I use some dense foam pad and a leather car seat protector)...the baby carrier is rear facing(rear facing is the safest upto 4 years)...you just open the door and drop it onto the isofix base and check that the light/buttons have gone green, it's as easy as that! The Maxi cosi baby carriers can be bought with extra adapters so that they can fit onto pretty much any pram! So, if baby is asleep, you just unclip the carrier and plonk onto the pram!

No marks on our leather interiors.

Then, when your little one starts to get bigger, 9months--->, you can change to a bigger car seat. I can't stress to you enough the safety benefits of rear facing seats. Just read up on it...upto 80% safer.
We have gone for the Cybex Sirona...it is very heavy, probably one of the heaviest on the market but there are NO marks whatsoever on my SuperSports interior after 5months.
The Cybex is amazing because, whilst being one of the safest, it swivels 360* and can be placed into front facing of you do decide that you prefer to see your child rather than have 80% more safety..lol...we just have a baby mirror hanging from the head rest, that does the same thing.
The best thing is that it swivels to the door so that putting them in it is a piece of ****! Really, even my dad was blown away by its ease and he isn't usually impressed about anything that doesn't have a manager and goalie!
I will put a link to what I use to protect the seat.

Sorry for the essay, I'm just really picky about car seats.

One of these under the seat protector...you can get black ones.

And then, because I'm ocd, a blanket as a final layer that touches the leather.

I took the seat out the other day, after 5 months, and the leather looked better than the rest of the car! It's been in there since collection day.

I got a car seat protector from ebay for about £10 I think, also put a towel down under the seat folded in half and have no marks.

Reading this, I am so glad my two are now 11 and 14!

I would be more worried about the smell, the spilt milk, ground in food and projectile vomiting. All of which will happen at some point.

Good luck!

Oh and i used to put a large towel on the back seat under the car seats.

Easy to remove and wash.

Thank you all!! This thread has just reinforced my stance on not having children.... I don't want to worry about anything other than fitting me and the wife and some suitcases in my car!... haha :)

I have rules. No eating or drinking in the car. If mini me really needs liquids it will be water.

Our first child arrived into the world 3 weeks ago, and I have a Sportback.

Generally it's just big enough, but watch out if you combine a rear facing seat with an isofix base. The car seat comes quite far forward, meaning the front passenger seat has to move quite forward too (you can't let the baby seat touch the back of the passenger seat).

My wife just fits in the front passenger seat now, with about an inch to spare for her knees (she's not tall), but neither me or my friends can fit in there with the baby seat fitted behind.

Genuinely thank you for taking the time to provide the info! Really appreciate it - especially the recommendations, have no idea what is good and what isn't at this stage!

I think we will end up going with the isofix base and rear facing seat, it seems to be the safest and easiest option. The wife is pretty small at 5ft 3, so shouldn't be too bad when we are both in the car!

What car does your wife have?
We'd struggle badly with just a Sportback. Getting a baby in and out is a total pain in the neck, but worse than that is the lack of boot. Put a pram in a Sportback boot and there's little room for anything else.
The wifes Q5 is a necessity.

Rear facing till 4 years old? How do you manage that? Where do there legs go? My two would have had their head in between their knees! :busted cop:

Yeah, well, it's rated up to 4 years for rear facing (certain weight) and the studies show that children just make it work if they aren't used to front facing. If you watch any tests comparing rear and front facing...they say that it's easier to sort out a broken leg.lol
My lad is only 2 so I haven't actually tried a 4 year old in it. And our 2 year old is fairly small so will hopefully still fit in 2 years.

We have the Cybex Sirona behind the passenger seat and we leave about a 5cm gap and I can fit in even on long journeys. Way more room than my Blobeye WRX.
The boot is pretty small to be fair. Luckily, our pram splits into two.
The cybex is the best part of £400 but the swivel function is worth it all day everyday!
