Hi people,

I have less than 3 months to push the button on the new car (saloon s-line) and I HAD convinced myself that misano was the way to go (honestly still prefer daytona but I have it) - that was until I saw a dirty, filthy example at the weekend (admittedly mine didn't look much better but it did look better)

So (and I realize most cars don't look at their best when dirty) how does misano fair when it comes to dirt? is it one of those colours that looks fabulous clean and 'meh' when dirty?..I find daytona looks superb clean and still good when dirty - I no longer have the time to be holstering a chamois in readiness for regular cleaning (another sacrifice of having children)

Thanks!

HI, i think it is very decent when you look it from far and it´s dirty from close. Of course talking about the "average" dirty. And the secret for me is having dark rims, they never look dirty at all until you touch them, haha.

ha...I've noticed that silver alloys don't look too bad until you have a tyre change which results in a mixture of black and silver and forces you to clean all 4 wheels!..

I can live with a clean car from a distance look...although the saloon I saw must have been layered in dirt..oh it shocked me to the core!..maybe I'm being a bit harsh on it...was an awful day (I was with the other half lol) ...raining...grey..parked up in a car park...I was disappointed as I've only seen misano gleaming and it left me doubting my choice.

Mine may not be Misano, but red in general isn't what you'd call a dirty colour compared to black or white at least. It hides the dirt well until you are close up.

I have had my A3 in Misano red for just over 2-weeks and because of the weather I've not had chance to wash it yet.

I have to say it still looks the brightest car in our office car park and colleagues talk about the Fire Engine red Audi.

Scheduled for wash on the weekend

I've had my Misano for about 18 months now, no matter how much you wash it in the winter it soon gets a little grubby again. Worst case I've found is that you lose the "sparkle" that you get when the sun is out, that aside, it never really looks that grubby (and in all honesty I don't wash it in winter as much as I should), even though I use it on a mixture of country lanes and motorways (M25 mainly).
Main thing - and this applies to all irrelevant of colour - is to keep the wheels and the tail pipes clean, else the wheels get a slight build up of brake dust over a short period, the tail pipes - usual S3, one goes black, so its a question of wiping that off.

But getting back to Misano, personally I find that it still looks pretty clean even when it isn't.

'I've found is that you lose the "sparkle"'

I'm sure everyone's bored to tears with the misano debate but what's this sparkle you speak of?!...I've only witnessed the orange tinge...I've caressed several misano lacquers and still not seen any evidence of pearlescent paint.

I suspect if you misano owners saw a dirty Daytona you'd think ooh how miserable...the sooner the orders placed the better as its becoming a bit of an obsession....not helped that A3 saloons/sedan/limos seem a rarity in these parts.

I didn't choose misano. It was the colour of the only stock vehicle that had the spec I wanted. My 8P was in deep sea blue and was difficult to keep looking smart, so I have been pleasantly surprised by how respectable the current A3 looks until I get around to washing it.

Oh - and I don't know what the misano sparkle is either. It turns a real scarlet in bright sunlight, but there is no sparkle (unlike deep sea blue). I've posted pictures of the gleaming misano before so I won't bore you with those again. Unless of course....

If you prefer daytona then its pretty simple really. You know your own mind. Change your order, simples. I wanted Misano for my 8P for at least a year before I got it. No doubts, then or now - 7 years and 100k+ miles, I still love the colour. To your other point then I wash my car no more than any other colour & manage to organise my life to find 30 minutes every few weeks to give it a clean. Its probably as much time as you put into this post/ replies.

If you look at a clean example in bright sunlight there is a slight but subtle sparkle to the paint that you see in my opinion, hence why I put it. But that's my opinion.

I'm not sure though how to take your response, sounds like you are attacking "us Misano owners" as you put it for responding to the question you asked originally. If you don't like Misano then don't get it, your car your choice, how you choose to keep it clean or minging - your choice.

I happen to like it as a colour and for me it was a simple choice which I've never regretted

Misano is great in daylight and with a summer sun it does have a 'sparkle', like a very, very fine gold flake in the red, that's what gives it the slightly orange look in bright sunlight. The pearlescent effect then makes the contours turn a deep red and highlights the curves and lines of the car.
My Brilliant Red TT was great when clean but quickly lost its 'pop' when it started getting dirty. On the other hand, my S3 with Misano Red looks much better and for longer as the colour reacts to the light for longer in between washes. Definitely my favourite colour so far.

I may have already seen your pics in my quest for misano pics but just in case I haven't yes let see some more! (please!)

messed that up!

I wish it was that simple....I have had my Daytona for nearly 3 years and to buy another Daytona would be like having mine cleaned (albeit with a boot) so I've gone to my second colour choice...what happens on my next car change god only knows!

Don't get me wrong I do love misano....seeing misano dirty for the first time made me wonder....even t'other half stated it looked non-descript ....and she adores misano/red....buttttt....the car was sandwiched between other cars on a very murky day.....[/QUOTE]

No..sorry...I didn't make that clear..difficult sometimes to inject true meaning electronically!...the message I'm trying to convey is I've looked at misano close up and from a distance..and up until a few weeks ago I couldn't quite work out the difference between the two reds the colour chart states 'pearl' and at the beginning that's what I expected to see - then after seeing a few more vehicles ...I realised that the pearlescent effect - like in daytona isn't really present - but what misano does give are the different tones which looks stunning...with you stating 'sparkle' I wondered if I had missed it as I have had only the pleasure of circling around the odd misano ....

After reading all the posts here I'm feeling quite excited about misano ...I eyed a brilliant red not long ago and that looked a cracking colour also...

I don't like it..no no no ...I love it

OK, indeed I understand how the written word can be taken wrongly - no worries.

So - if this helps, this is my Misano S3, I've just taken a couple of shots of my "minging" S3, this has not been cleaned for the past 4 weeks, during which time, its been in Gatwick Long Term car park for a week, up and down any number of country roads, and been around the M25 a fair few times on the way to work in absolutely filthy weather, including torrential rain and wind. Normally it gets a good clean at weekends, but work and my mother being seriously ill at present has meant my time has been diverted elsewhere and car has had to wait to get cleaned (as I won't use car washes).

I would agree that when dirty - Misano does look like the brilliant red, but in the sunlight in the summer its a hard colour to beat, its just lovely - IMO.

Oh all right then. (Thought you'd never ask!). Here's mine in a bit of September sun. Given a free choice, I'd never have chosen red, but I've been really pleased with how misano has turned out. Hope you'll enjoy yours too.

That's very impressive indeed...and its dirty?!...it hides the 'grime' very well....I am really liking that...and what makes you my new best friend is that you have a pan roof and p glass!....I have spec'd the same and I would have asked you a hundred questions about that roof but I sat in one last week which appeased me....looks well against the paintwork...use it much?

from that angle you can see the contrast with the rear lights much more than brilliant red (IMO)..striking...looks like you have an insulated roller door to keep it warm in too!...how does the SE suspension fair?

I use my sunroof more than I ever thought I would in all honesty. Strangely I've never been a great fan of sunroofs, the choice to spec it was down to my wife (who loves them), and I'm glad she did. What makes it good for me is that it has a net that pulls across inside the car as opposed to a "hard" cover, for me that makes all the difference as if it's really sunny you can have the pan roof open with the net across to stop the sun beating on your head but still get plenty of fresh air, or just pulled back a little to stop the sun glaring. I'd spec another in a heartbeat.

I often have it open in the summer or on tilt (in the winter more!) when driving to work, and it's not overly noisy either, which again to me is a bonus. Plus with the net that pulls across it makes the cabin just that bit more lighter and airy which again to me is a bonus.

Can most definitely recommend as an option!!!!!

That's good info..I wasn't aware it had the netting.....normal s/roofs have a hard cover that move back with the roof...I guess the design of the roof (over the top) is the reason for that...big bonus

I work in a box and having some open space on the commute will be most welcome!...haven't had a sunroof since owing a Golf V5 about 10 years ago (jeez might even be longer)

I've posted a few times before about the SE suspension, so again at the risk of boring those who have read it all before, it suits us fine. Our 8P had sport suspension which on smooth roads was good and I liked the way the car looked. However, on uneven surfaces (of which there are many hereabouts) it was ****** awful. I was tempted by sport suspension when test driving the 8V as it feels much improved over the 8P, but Darling was insistent that we wouldn't have sport again, so SE it was. I don't find it particularly soft, but it's certainly more comfortable than our previous A3. People also say it sits high, which I don't deny, but I'm happy with the look. I've had it for 15 months now and if the look was going to be a problem I'd be well fed up with it by now, but every morning I open the lounge curtains and feel a sense of pride as I admire it on tne drive. (It doesn't fit in tne lovely warm garage!)

Indeed the netting on the sunroof is what makes it for me - like you I've always had the hard cover, and never really used one previously. If you can afford it, get it, really worthwhile IMO.

OK, here's a better comparison of a dirty and a clean Misano using my filthy S3 and my wife's A1 style (also in Misano and which is clean, having just been serviced last week). Yes she like the colour of Misano so much we had to swap her car as well, and get a pan roof.....LOL!

Thought it might help so moved hers next to mine for a quick picture for you

As you can see not a great "loss" of colour with Misano when dirty.....(the S3 that is!)

Ha...sadly my lounge isn't directly in front of the drive and the bedroom faces the rear garden...but my old house had both facing the drive (had a TT in those days) and I used to feel excited to open the curtains ...

My garage is home to cardboard boxes...as soon as one is recycled along come another 3 (usually ones as big as the garage)...bought an electric door this year...can't get in or out at the moment....

his n hers!....didn't expect this amount of effort....appreciate it...... both cars look superb...dirty or clean..

Misano is a beautiful pearl... any pearl colour will still look good dirty ;)
