RS3.....worth the premium over the S3?

With my 3 year promise in mind maybe I'll buy a Daytona RS3 next year, slap my private plates on it and the wife will be none the wiser ??

(Please don't flame me meant in jest!)

.........................Ahhh, I like where your going with this Rob........................................ do you reckon mine would notice a glut orange RS3 sedan on the drive? :racer:

Just been for a test drive in the RS3, is it worth the premium? No.

I do like the sound from the optional sports exhaust.
Mag ride was an improvement on standard damping on my S3
Didn't find the sports seats that much better than the standard S3 seats.
Steering in Dynamic was lighter than the steering on my car, I like the heavier feel.
In a straight line I'd say S3 with stage 1 is faster, certainly feels it.
Prefer the grey S3 dials.
Interior is pretty much the same.

Not worth £10k extra for me. I would select Mag ride if I bought another S3 / RS3.

Just buy her a nice new orange wardrobe:
Dresses, shoes, handbags, etc.

She will forget all about the car!

Totally agree, I have S3 saloon with mag ride ay std, RS3 looks good, nice sound but not much difference for 10k extra.

Pretty much the same things I thought. Damn my lack of mag ride!!

They way l am looking at is not having magride doesn't bother me in the slightest,it's a learning curve buying you're first Audi, but adding it would have pushed my budget over £41k too much,at the time l got a 10-5% discount which is rare for Glasgow Audi.
Always a Next time.

Totally agree with you mate, although I am interested why so many others didn't spec it seeing as how most of the reviews I saw before ordering were heavily tipping it as a 'must have' option.

TBH I was tempted to start a thread but didn't want to come off as the smart-*** who already has it standard on a saloon! :scared2:

I can't believe all those who left it off did so because of budget reasons, especially seeing as some specced LED lights which would have paid for it outright?

I have mag ride but more a case of luck rather than judgement. Think it's standard on the Leon Cupra which was in the top 3 that I had narrowed my purchase down to the other being the G G G G ..,, no can't say it.

Either way drive and enjoy your car ;o)

I agree with you, Ive read loads of threads in the 8v section that mag ride isn't worth it but people are starting to realise its not the case, the same people were saying it at the launch of the 8v RS3 before any physical car was built ,those same people are also saying the RS3 is not worth the premium over the S3.

Yeah, it's weird one..............lots of guys here clearly up on their cars but it's like mag-ride was some kind of mystical secret! I heard one tale on here where a member was actually advised against it by a salesman!

Starting to lose count of those who now say they wish they'd specced it.................I'm genuinely interested if they weren't aware of it, couldn't afford it, thought it was s**t or whatever?!!

For me it's probably one of those "never had it, won't miss it" features.

I bought a stock list car as most of you probably know, and so it was a case of prioritising what I wanted and Magride came pretty far down the list.

Had a previous car have had it that may well have been different though.

Enjoy the track day in the R8 V10 Plus Dave and pray for rain, so much more fun:

But once you've done with the R8 go try an RS7 as it's a right-bl**dy animal:

Well.......just had an update from Audi UK on my track day on Monday 16th and I get to play around for 4 hours as follows ......

"We’d like to remind you that the Audi Sport Race Track event is fast approaching. It’s not long now until you’ll be driving the Audi RS3, Audi RS7 and the new Audi R8 at Bedford Autodrome". ....:grinning::grinning::grinning::grinning::grinning:

So not a bad collection to have driven and compliment the TTS I had for the weekend 2 weeks ago and the "run of the mill" S3 I use for the day job...lol

How do you even get to go on these Audi track days?

Also @Simon L I was unsure about the mag ride and still a little unsure so I'm not going for it. Never had it, had a test drive in a standard RS3 so won't miss it. The sales guy didn't know anything about it either.

Its not like I'm buying a track car and I've had cars that ride poop so I'm happy :D

Sounds good to me ;)

(I'm not on a commission to sell mag-ride BTW!!)

Because one doesn't expect to buy a S3 and not have it perform adequately with standard suspension (dampers).

You certainly didn't miss not having mag ride on the 8P S3, but it appears to have gone backwards with the 8V S3.

........yep, couldn't disagree with you there V8 (although can't comment on 8P......this being me first Audi n'all)

Bottom line, mag-ride should be standard anyway, I mean who doesn't want options?!!

I've yet to really notice the bounce that people talk about to be honest - though I've have felt the 8V feel floaty at highspeed which wasn't pleasant.

The 8P used to drive (heh) me nuts though because of how heavy the nose felt. the 8V feels much better in that regard (though, maybe thats more due to lack of feeling than anything else?)

The RS3 hasn't been out long but I'm amazed at the relatively large numbers of low mileage ones up for sale.

Is there a problem I wonder?

Is this a serious post steeve? If you dig deeper you will find that Audi dealers have demonstration cars that they try to sell on after 3-6 months without losing any money. I will wager that the majority of the ' relatively large numbers of low mileage ones up for sale' are dealer demonstrators..

No problem with that!

They are Audi ex demo's,they are on Audi.co.uk Approved website then duplicated on others like Autotrader,Audi aint flinching much on discounts either because of the waiting list times, but l think its the same for all new prestige Audi models in there first year of release

The RS3 I drove yesterday has been at the garage for 4 months I think they said and have no plans on selling / getting a new one as the waiting list is long, even for them.

My dealers sold 6 in a month... Not sure why, but they are flying off the shelves ;)

I heard that the dealers are only allocated 6 cars at the most. Hardly "large numbers" ;)

TX.

I see the merest 'hint' of any possible criticism brings the RS3 fanboys rushing out, tripping over themselves to defend the honour of the RS3 ;)

@steeve How very dare you even suggest there might be a 'problem'!! :lmfao:
