What discount did you secure for the order?

I am not talking about people who know someone in the trade, or people who have favours owed to them, or people who are in privileged positions to negotiate discount, but I am talking about your everyday Joe Bloggs.

The max I can seem to find is about 4%, anyone managed above this without having special circumstances?

2.5% on mine. Didn't really push too hard, the sales chap had basically already said that they don't need to discount them for obvious reasons, but did honour a Carwow offer that I had. A grand in my pocket I guess.

I got £1k off only as it was a cancelled order. When I ordered back in the summer no one was offering discounts.

Managed to get £2500 off end of July through a broker.

I don't understand why people get so hung up on discounts. The real price (if you're trading in) is the cost to change.

0% discount and a good trade-in price could be better than a 5% discount and a **** trade in price.

Agreed... In my case anyway, as I never go full term on PCP.

I'm talking about if you were buying the car without a part exchange. Of course it makes no odds what discount you get when you are swapping one in, it's about the bottom line figure then.

When I raised the issue of a further discount my dealer laughed!

Yeh my dealer has never given any discount on the RS3s they have sold. In fact most people haven't even asked. I did ask and got around £980 off. Better than a kick up the ***.

I'm sorry but only a fool buys a car at full list.. Even if you get some options thrown in for free/at a discounted rate or free accessories then it's better to walk out the dealer in the above circumstances than the latter..

Why would they discount the RS3 though as demand is high and lead times long? My dealer stated they don't discount them full stop. I only got one as it was a cancelled order.

There are deals to be had across the RS range, you just have to go at the right time and do your business at the right dealer. I understand people ordering at the end of last year not getting a discount and those who ordered as soon as the order book opened but I still believe in those circumstances, in particular if you are adding a couple k to the spec they should be giving you something back In return in the likes of extra half talk and at the bare minimum few hundred off.

There are deals to be had on the RS7/RS6/Rs5/rs4 right now. Give a few more months and all dealers should be more flexible with discounts.

As a 'retired' car sales chap, I hope my comments can be taken as meant...

Each dealer will have their own stand-point on discounts of models as special as the RS3. It's very easy for them to say "we aren't discounting them" as they know each serious prospective buyer wants to own it. If you can possibly tear yourself away then you should - let them know they have lost a sale with their 'policy'.

As you are likely to have an Audi code for your desired beast, you should then phone your local dealers and simply ask for their best price - you can even tell them you're looking for the best deal. They won't like it, but if they want to sell you a car they will eventually get back to you.

If you still think more discount is available, you can then play them off and explain x dealer has quoted this, can you better it? It takes a while, and a fair bit of nerve, but there will be a dealer that wants your business enough - just not easy to do when we all covet the car so much!!

Interested to hear any other tactics have been employed?

Mention the survey and you may get a few freebies ;)

R&G is spot on - dealers want to make sales, and if they believe you are a serious buyer with serious other offers on the table they will usually better them to get your business (unless they are having a really good month!).

Getting discount takes work on any desirable product, the only way around the work I have found is to build a relationship with your dealer over years of sales (and introduced sales), then they just sort you out without all the to-ing and fro-ing.

They are also held hostage by the survey, which you can use to your advantage, but it's a bit of a naughty tactic! I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer will refuse your business if you pushed that card too hard and too early! Along the same lines though, if you have a genuine gripe with the way something is going then it is always best to speak up and ask what they are going to do about it though (and here insert the 'or else the survey will get it!'), free accessories are easy to come by with this trick (but generally it can only be employed after the deal is signed or post delivery - and if something goes badly!).

It also seems that the initial opening discounts of anything from 3% to 10% have all but dried up - I guess all the dealers are doing quite well on RS3's and have no need to offer discount.

I ordered mine with 5% but was a challenge to get

I got 6.8% off in April, through a broker. About £3200 off the total. No trade-in, so a real money discount for me.

Where in the world are you based though as I don't think the UK is getting much discount at all? When I bought mine no one was offering any discount and indeed they had been told by Audi not to!

TX.

I'm in the UK, but as I say, was through a broker. Which does have some drawbacks: I couldn't choose the dealer, for one.

None but I got a very good trade in that prob equates to 900 I could have saved the same through a broker but would have lost 800 by selling the bm to we want any car

Which broker did you use?

I am currently at 7% discount, so about £3,500. Assume people are calculating discounts on before vat prices, and before OTR costs are added...

I used Kevin at UK Car Broker.

pre/post VAT makes no different to % discount :) , but I was including the OTR costs. I guess it would be closer to 7% if I removed that. I think I did pretty well price-wise (especially as I ordered in the first week it was on sale), though I don't think I got as much attention from the dealer as if I'd gone direct (and likely not saved close to that).

Ouch, I hope no one has paid list......
Dealer will always play a game with you, no discounts, high demand, usual tales.
Come back in two weeks after doing a bit of research (use CarWow or the like as a negotiation tool) and low and behold there's 5% - 10%, with minimal effort.
This isn't a limited edition and it's only seriously limited editions that you should ever consider paying list for.

I checked the usual places incl carwow etc and there were no discount 6 months ago. That may be different today however I couldn't give a **** as I'm driving around in mine whilst others are still waiting!

Each to their own, but I'd rather the wait and £3-£4k in my bank.

Give it 12 months and you might get even more. Tell you what wait 18 and you might be better off still.

Wait 12/18 months and you'll be getting a saloon RS3 with buckets, ceramics and hopefully a front diff.

Two problems with early adoption - cost and facelift being used to right the wrongs from the initial attempt (especially true in a whole new model).

I don't want a saloon + you don't know for sure that one will appear. Anyhoo as I said I don't care if the late adopters get a healthy discount, they can count the £'s whilst they wait for the car to arrive.

TX.

Edit - if you want the next best thing you'll wait forever and never order.

I'd try to wait for the facelift, that will be improved, always is.
You could always upgrade when it arrives, just hold out for a discount this time........

We both know that an audi facelift is usually the square root of **** all, why would this one be any different if it even impacts the RS3. If there is a minor facelift you'll not see the cars until 2017 anyway! Live and let live though, enjoy the wait ;)

My last price for RS3, had a discount from MSRP of -11,37% without any loan or -13,53% with loan (not in UK, in EU/Spain).
Very easy and fast obtained with some car dealers comparators intermediate.

(53.433€ = 37.631 pounds, final base price with all taxes and expenses included, without finance)

I think discounts for pre-facelift RS3 will increase an additional 5% in feb when incoming facelift news became fully confirmated, not only by some Audi worker interview, but more media and some spy photos.

After viewing CarPlay and advanced tech available in A4, lot of ppl starting to ask and wait for that in A3.

Thankfully in the uk it's illegal to offer two different prices dependant on how you pay for it - unless you're talking incentives like deposit contribution. (Not for the RS3 for a while yet - if ever!) I've negotiated a healthy discount but may have built the ideal car just out of reach...
