I recently bought a 2004 A3 sport 3.2 Quattro knowing it had a stretched timing chain and have just completed replacement of the timing chains, all the guides and tensioners. If

any one wants any advice help on this problem.
Including where to get genuine VW parts kit for the chains, guides and tensioners.
It now runs beautifully and goes like a bat out of hell

Yes did it in my garage on my own . If you take it carefully it's an ok job. I just took the gearbox out rather than the whole engine/box as you don't have to disconnect AC etc. Are you getting any rattle from chain by the gearbox or any fault codes. My car has only done 74,000. Guides were actually ok wear wise ( replaced them anyway) but top chain had stretched so much it had started chewing the ends of the teeth on the intermediate cog that drives them .... Mine was rattling and showing fault code for Correlation between crank and camshaft.

Hi Simon sorry but to be honest I'm not sure I want to do it again. It's a lot of work. I took it of the road for two weeks and did it in spare time as the whole front end has to come off. Obviously doing it for the first time is always a steep learning curve but even so it took me 2 nights just to get the gearbox/diff mated back up to engine on my own.
I can understand why a lot of garages either won't do it or charge arm and a leg. The official labour hours to do the job is 12 hours but it took me a lot longer all told.
Mine is still going and sounding brilliant.
What model have you got ? Manual or dsg?
What are the symptoms?
What sort of figures have you been quoted?
