What have you done today?

Slepy have you uprated the rear ARB yet ??

No. At the moment I'm not looking to bring more oversteer. My issue is with body roll on the front in heavy corners. Rear stays quite flat. I can't get the car to understeer, at least not on semi slicks. So if I go for uprated bar, it will be front and rear. Tried to find out what the load rating is on front springs on h&r coilovers, but never got a reply. S4 front springs might help, but I don't want to over do it and have too hard springs. Also need to get engine and box mounts swapped for something harder.

Booked in mini boost for a tune... heres hoping a get some nice killerwasps

Drunk beer and test driven a Nissan GTR. Not in that order. Can't sleep...

Slepy: You might think the front is heavy, in reality its no different to something like a Clio.

My cars front weights were 419 and 341kg. Als Clio weighed 371 and 338kg.

A difference of about 50kg.

Infact, the A4Q is far better balanced, the clio has about 150kg less on its rear wheels and thus is far more nose heavy.

I said this in your other thread, but ARB's arent the answer. You need to get the basics right first, which means spring rates and shock valving. Sticking on fat ARB's to cure an oversteer problem thats caused by something else is a recipe for disaster. Even tyre pressures can make all the difference between an oversteery and understeery car.

Instead of pouring thousands into the engine, spend some money getting the suspension sorted properly.

I'm not saying that I will fit both, but at the moment I don't see why I would fit uprated rear at all. Will try to get some used front springs from S4 and see how it goes. I'm pretty sure that my engine mounts aren't up to the job on track, so these two things will be first I will sort out next year. Would get box and diff mounts as well, but I'm not sure yet if I will be swapping the 6 speed or keeping 5 speed. At the moment only 1st gear is an issue so on track not much of a problem.

And on almost every transverse mounted FWD car the entire engine and gear box are in front of the axle, as the diff hangs off the back of the gearbox and driveshafts pass along behind the engine...!

Some models cant the engine back a little to try and help but the A4's nowhere near as bad as everyone likes to make out.

At least with the longitudinal transaxle, you've got ALL of the weight of the gearbox behind the axle by a decent amount.

I find turn in to corners pretty good even though the weight. Not as good as my type r had, but still decent. Balance is quite good as well at the moment. There are probably few more kgs to remove on mine, but it is all back of the car. I will relocate battery and see what else can be removed from the front. Just the ****** body roll messes up in fast corners.

Also, the soft nankang is not going to last long from what I can see. Will need to get medium compound next time.

Yeh theres more weight to come out of mine too, i'm still running the stock seats, so a few KG's saved there, and the stock exhaust, which is ****** heavy too.

I think i'll try to switch to a single box system, the mid section with its silencer was over 15kgs alone! But i dont want it to be too noisey.

I could also do alloy uprights at the front to save a bit too.

I think tyres and sorting the rear suspension out will be my next focus though. All the bushes back there are original!

Mine is on one box (milltek) and on noise test it was 82 and mallory and 83db at cadwell. It is a bit loud at 70mph though.

That's the thing. I already have alu uprights and ac removed so not much more can be removed from the front other than the battery. New bushes at the rear made a massive difference on track and even on road.

I lightened my bonnet and cut away most of my bumper carrier bar, removed the factory bonnet lock, ditched the visco fan, replaced the battery with a £25 wheelchair battery behind the passenger seat.

Could probably do more (GRP bonnet and wings etc) but it quickly gets into lots of expense for small returns.

Found a coolant leak from the top rad hose :(
Funny you said that. I came back home today and noticed that there is some kind of oily fluid dripping just at the front of bumper. Not sure what it is. I've added some break fluid couple of days ago but haven't noticed anything dripping.

Possibly. Will need to have a look but, it is ****** cold already and will have to wait till next year.

i had a power steering leak on the cooler pipe. It's not high pressure side of the system, a new cooler was going to be £80+vat roughly. 10mm internal diameter fuel pipe, a couple of clips, sorted.
The cause of the leak was the intercooler air duct wearing on the aluminium pipe. Pennies to repair, never leaked since repair.

Looked in the garage with the aim of starting work, then closed it again after spilling some oil, so still no progress

Haha, that's where taking it off the road to do some much needed work on it has ended up with it being buried in crap! Time for a clear out!!

Finally blanked off EGR valve on the Amtrak at the weekend.

Also replaced the lower wishbones on the A2. Possibly up one of the worst jobs I've tackled. Siezed lower balljoint (Bosch angle-grinder to the rescue), broke a cheap 3-leg puller (now scrap), drive-shaft seized in hub (gave up), press out old wishbone from alloy console (6 beers to local mechanic + labour).

On Sunday I did a 16.2 second pass at the 1/4 at Crail.

It's now Tuesday and I still haven't bothered wiping the number off the rear window.:whistle2:
