as in the tittle really

in need of a diff for my fathers 2.5TDI Q 1998

are all the 6 speed quattro diffs the same (petrol and diesel)

anyone have one or any idea where i could get one?

thanks

Front diff is part of the gearbox...

You'll need a box from a 2.5TDI, preferably the same code, but likely some will be interchangable.

Got a 1.8 TQS gearbox with a 4th gear synchro issue still works thou just a slight crunch when you change - open realistic offers :whistle2:
I'm in Essex if that's any help...

PAULF on here used to run a couple of 2.5 TDIs before moving on. He was putting them to auction or scrapping them. Drop him a PM, he may be able to help.

You need the same code as your gearbox (it's in the wheelwell sticker) so it matches the rear diff.

Mine is broken - cracked around the crank sensor (which is why I'm getting rid) so would be no use to you I'm afraid

(Haven't got around to binning/selling/deciding if I'm going to partially break the Avant yet so it's still in the steading!)

What makes you think the diff is gone? They are pretty bombproof

why cant i just replace the front diff, drive flanges out, unbolt the diff housing cover, pull the diff and replace it?

Because the drive pinion is matched to the diff, and you cant take that out without dismantling the box.

You might be able to swap the crown wheel over (if it comes off the old diff), but you'd then possibly need to set the pinion depth which requires shimming that again requires the box to be dismantled.

I still ask why you think the diff has gone?
very noisy, so thought we should drop the oil and replace it...

about an egg cups worth of oil was left in it

replaced the oil anyway, took 2-3 litres from memory (this was some months ago) and it was a little quieter

it shifts perfectly, its noisiest on the over run

Given the oil lubricates the main gearbox, front diff and centre diff, i suspect you've damaged more than just one part...

right, just checked the code on the sticker, i have

DAK DQT

I assume the gearbox code is DQT

can i use any 6 speed box from a 2.5tdi quattro? theres one for sale on ebay from a 2003 AKE codes are

GBB ETS

Many codes are compatible, but need to confirm the final drive ratio is the same, some variants (Allroad?) use a different FD ratio.
