VAG Admit Cheating Diesel Emmissions...

Fuel injectors and (the other week at least) possible fuel tank replacements required... doesn't really match with Horn's story last week that it was a few rogue software coders at fault does it?

Tut tut VAG looks like the guys at VW, Skoda, Seat, Audi and Bentley won't be getting a bonus next year then !!! The bigger the company the more knobs they have working for them.

Good news is that my Engine is unaffected.

Interesting to see how the Residuals fare up now over the next few months / years.

Might have to invest in a hairdryer to get that TDi badge removed from my boot.
It's an embarrassment now.
Wonder if Audi would do it at my next Service ??
Use dental floss

You think? They'll get their bonuses anyway. Just like the bankers. They're all corrupt.

The majority of the general average public (myself included had I not been unfortunately dragged in to this sorry mess by my choice of vehicle last year) will listen to the news and associate this "scandal" with VW pre-dominantly, then Audi, then Seat, then Skoda and so on and associate it solely with the TDi engine - regardless of size / affected / not affected / etc.

It will always have that Stigma of is it an affected engine / isn't it - as above, the average Joe (like me) isn't going to know / understand.
It'll be interesting to see how the part-ex fares a few years down the line.

Good news is that I've come up with a temporary solution - black Gaffer Tape carefully cut to the correct size and stuck over the offending Badge.
You can see it (the tape) in the daylight, although come dusk / dark it blends in perfectly.
I think you over estimate the 'general public'. The amount of people that comment on my nice Audi and totally disassociate it from VW is nearly 99.9%. The large majority of people see Seat, Audi, Skoda, VW, Buggatti etc etc as totally separate manufacturers. The same as the large majority don't associate MINI with BMW or Vauxhall with Opel. Not all of us are petrol heads.

Yes, I would agree.
While I understood that VW / Audi were bedfellows, I didn't realise that Seat, Skoda et al were all also part of the "Family".
Then the recent News Articles explained that all are inter-related.

A little education can be a dangerous thing.

At the moment all the TDI and most of the other engines used by the whole VAG Group are actually made by Audi in a reasonably new factory in Gyor in Hungary. I'm not sure when this plant opened and whether it actually made any of the ES189 engines or not.

My wife received a letter this morning from Audi UK quoting her registration and VIN numbers saying that her 2011 Audi A1 1.6TDI was one of the cars affected by the current 'problem' and they would be in touch again soon as full solution has been worked out. As it is it will not affect her as her A1 is on a PCP and she will be handing it back in the next couple of weeks to be replaced by a new Polo 1.2 TSI.

Just got home and there's a letter from audi saying my 1.6tdi is affected, last week when I checked on the audi Web site it said it was not affected.

Got the same letter. BUT I sold mine ten days ago to WBAC for £1200 more than px offer ! Yah ..

Sold my a3 last week and get letter today.

Glad in a way but wouldn't mind the compensation package if I'd be entitled to it, was brought second hand from Audi dealer.

I don't think you've mentioned that before..........

Sorry., just trying to help people that feel the value of their cars have dropped that the reality does not seem to be the case ,certainly from my experience.

Though I would say being without my A3 is making the wait for my S3 even more painful ! Currently driving a thirteen year old micra :-(

If the 1.6l are having software update and fuel injectors, I wonder what that's going to mean for bhp/fuel consumption?

They just announced on the news that
they will be making a movie about the
emissions scandal. Starring Leonardo
Dicaprio. Unbelievable. They could at
least have waited until all the affected
users have been notified and verified
the fix.

Just an update on the VW problem, have had a vw van on order for a while supposed to be coming beginning of November, just been told they have suspended all sales of euro 5 vans indefinitely. Not happy!!!!

You could always take VAG to court in a private action if you feel that strongly that your car was exceeding the emission levels you were hoping to achieve while owning it?

Quite how you would work out what compensation you are entitled to - as I assume you sold it for expected resale value - I don't know?

Maybe the court could rule that VW plant some trees on your behalf, or donate to an asthma charity or something by way of redress.
This will ease your conscience and allow you to sleep again at night.

Nothing personal, but people just need to remember that compensation payments are payments to compensate you for your financial loss.

Got the letter yesterday saying that our Q5 is also affected. Quite surprised really as this has AdBlue.

No the movie isn't going to be made, and it isn't clear who would star in it. All that's happened is that the rights to a yet unwritten book has been purchased. Any talk of a movie is speculative...

Wouldn't they just upgrade the Van to a non-cheat engine and sell this to you at the same price as originally agreed.
Seems a bit off making you suffer due to their own deviousness ??

What about compensation for the free advertising that I am driving round with on my boot i.e. the TDi badge.
It's advertising something that I no longer wish to be associated with.

My home-made device to temporarily conceal the offending badge fell off this morning due to the frost.

Have been to see the dealer today and it's caddy vans that are affected, no more eu 5 caddys are being made/sold they are selling you the eu6 ones at a no cost increase.

Leonardo has bought the rights to the VW
scandal and is going to be producing the
movie. Of course the book isn't written yet.
Just stating that he will be producer of the
movie when it eventually comes out.

......emm, I'm just wondering how Leo is planning on incorporating the snorting of class A drugs off the bottoms of pretty girls into a film about an emissions scandals with a load of fat boring old men!

I think I'd pass if I was him ;)

That's a bit silly. The latest TDI's with EU6 engines, like my 2.0TDI-184, are not affected by the current problem and what's more it produces less 'global warming' CO2 gas than any equivalent powered petrol engine as goes a lot further on every litre of fuel.

If you had recently bought a brand new car and then find out your car is effected would you have any grounds to give the car back as its been mis-sold?

My lease company is keeping me up to date. I'll let them deal with things. At the moment mines is not affected.

Got my letter.

Car is going in tomorrow for some work so will quiz the guys to see what the will give away (as opposed to what they actually know..)

As I'm on PCP this farce will probably kill any 'profit' over the guaranteed price and thus with no deposit, encourage me to walk away from VAG.

Pity, I like my A5, but there are some cracking personal leasing deals to be had out there for a lot less money.

My Dad got the letter regarding his A6 TDI. Luckily he sold it last week...

3 of my colleagues have got their letters this week...

2013 Audi A5 TDI
2015 Audi TT TDI
2015 Golf GTD

The banter volume here is up to 11.

If this had come out in the open a year ago (September), I would certainly be back on the Forecourt handing the keys back and demanding my hard earned back.

As my car is a year old now - and isn't affected (yet) - and I LOVE my car, then I'm just shrugging my shoulders (while trying to hide the TDi badge).
My next car will be back to petrol now though - last 2 vehicles have been diesel and I've loved them.

Shame, although it is a terrible, terrible scandal. What is the World coming to when there's things like this allowed to happen.
