hi i have a built in bose system and im willing to change the head unit so i can add a subwoofer that has an amp built in, once i change the HU how would i fit the sub in, considering there will be the bose amp aswell as the subwoofer amp? and what will be the process? cheers

You can add a subwoofer without changing the head unit, that's what I'd do. Unless there are features in the aftermarket unit that you really want.

I'm pretty sure it would be cheaper to retrofit auxiliary input with your existing Audi unit than to spend upwards of £300 on a new unit. Speak to @NHN regarding the aux retrofit.

In terms of the sub, you'd need a sub amp that took high-level input, which the majority do nowadays. You'd then tap into the existing sub loom to nick the signal and send it to your own amp and sub. This can be done by unplugging the sub plug and using wires terminated with pins.

can you give me more details on the sub instructions? thanks this really helps

Yes I can no problem. Before I do, what sub and amp you thinking of using?
i believe its the
Edge EDB12 12" V2 Active Subwoofer
900w, 300 rms
with a built in Amplifier: ED7200

Don't fit that cack in your car, leave the standard Bose in!

I can't guarantee it but they do look like they have the plugs for high-level input straight into the amp so you're good to go using my method.

no im going to change that when i have spare money to buy a better one, this one is just lying around. could you explain your method a bit more please/

The Edge subs are not that good. They say 900w but they are actually about 300w. I had one in my boy racer corsa and thought it was good but then when i spent a few more bob I realised that I wasted my money on the edge sub.

I've just done my stereo system and gone for a Alpine SWE-815 Active with Quick Release Plugs and was only £150 with all the wiring. Its only an 8" sub but jheeze nearly blew my windows on a couple of songs. Also with quick release plugs its easier to remove when you need the boot space.

'My method' as I called it lol is just to use high-level input from the car's factory audio system rather than spend money on a new head unit just to get low-level RCA out

cheers, does this mean that the factory bose will not work?

The factory Bose sub won't, which is what we are trying to achieve, speakers will work as normal
what are the chances of getting both to work, the factory sub and mine? also where is the factory sub located in an 8p

Recommend Sayams method, did it with my audi and worked flawlessly and saved a hell of a lot at the same time

None and why would you want there to be. All you'll get is boosting of some frequencies and cutting of others depending on how the phase adds up.

The result will be inaccurate and sloppy sound.

It is located behind the passenger carpet in the boot. The amp is on the opposite side.

how do you remove the carpet to get to the subwoofer? and is it possible to plug in a sub with a built in amp? also what does the adapter do except change the connections on either side?
cheers

Couldn't tell you off the top of my head, been a while since I had my car in bits to be honest. There will be guides here and/or google, search it.

Yes it is possible

Which adapter sorry?

the high level adapter? or is that not needed?

One side of the adapter is wire and the other is the plug that goes into the high-level input on the amp, it isn't anything fancy just makes your life much easier :)
