Hi Guys,

I've read up on a few other threads about the courtesy cars that Audi give you when book your car in with them for some work, but those threads were quite old so wanted some new info and update others who might be interested.

I spoke to 2 dealers, Manchester Audi and Stockport Audi. Used the online service to book my a5 in for MOT. Manchester Audi gave me the option to request a courtesy car online when I was selecting my date, I did it and got the confirmation email. After a bit, someone from Manchester Audi called me to inform em they don't offer courtesy cars because it costs them too much money etc. Was a little annoyed as to why they offer that service online for their dealership in the first place so I ended up cancelling that.

Called Stockport Audi next, I've dealt with them before when I took my car in for a heralth check when I first purchased the vehicle. They were OK to deal with. Spoke to them over the phone about booking in my car and they did confirm that they can offer a courtesy car. so here are the most up to date details so far as they have changed from other older posts:

You have to be older than 21 years, you have to have less than 8 points (used to be 6, still says 6 on their website), and no convictions etc in the last 6 months which is standard I think.

The big change which surprised me a little bit was the excess. I have read that some people were told £250 and £500 but these were from old posts. Stockport Audi said the excess is now £1000! What's more, the amount payable upfront to reduce the excess has gone up to £18 which brings your excess down to £50 which seems like a no brainer to me.

One other thing, they couldn't specify what car I would get, they couldn't even guarantee it would be like for like or at least something similar size/range wise. But I did stress that I need to have a large car to carry at least 4 passengers. I'd be really gutted if they offer me a tiny A2 or something, I'd rather just sit and wait for my car and save me £18! lol.

Have you guys had any recent experiences with Audi's courtesy cars and what have they offered you whilst they had your A5s?

Cheers!

Last time my A5 was in I was loaned a Q3 1.4T petrol. No cost, just a damage waiver to sign and licence details.
I work fairly near the dealership and could walk/get a curteousy lift to the office but it was in for two days.
Car is in again next week for a couple of days so I've booked a car and we'll see what they offer this time around.

When I was with BMW they would have given me something that they thought I'd rather like and possibly buy. So when my 320d M-Sport coupe went in I would have had at least the latest 3 series MSport.

Hey, I'd appreciate if you can let me know what they give you. My car is booked in for the 26th but hoping they'd give me something decent. Cheers.

Going back a few months as opposed to weeks, when my previous car was in I'd got A4 or A6. But going back last couple of years has varied between A1, A3 & A6.

To be fair I didn't need to have a big car so always used it as a test drive of the other models. No charge etc for use of the car

From reading your post, it is not clear to me whether you want:-

a) A courtesy car to get to work and back.
b) Something that you can drive "pedal-to-the-metal" on the way to work and back and have some serious fun.
c) A day's test drive in something like an RS3.

If you clearly tell the dealer what you expect, perhaps they can help you.

Hi, Thanks for your replies guys.

beemerboy9, I did specify that I wanted a similar sized car or something large like my A5. Reason being, I have read too many posts about how people would get something tiny and boring that they would just prefer to sort out alternative transport or not bother with a courtesy car at all and just wait for their own vehicle at the dealership.

I did ask if I could be more specific on the vehicle that I would like as it would be a great opportunity to get behind the wheel of another model and maybe use that as an experience factor when it comes to buying my next car, but they said they cant do that as there is no guarantee what vehicle they will have. I'd just have to turn up on the day and then see what they've got and go from there :(.

I even booked a day off work in the hopes of getting a nice car, maybe an S model (I'd be dreaming for an RS model :D) and enjoy it for the day doing a lot of 'b) Something that you can drive "pedal-to-the-metal" on the way to work and back and have some serious fun.' haha.

But as of right now, I'm not holding my breath. I'll be happy with a decent A4 that won't put me to sleep behind the wheel. Going to pay the £18 upfront to reduce the excess down to £50 from £1000 as well just in case the worst happens :p.

I usually get an A3 but did get an A7 3.0tdi and a boring A4 all road.

An A7!? Woah, I WISH they give me one of those lol. What was your car at the time?

I've had an A1, A3 convertible, A4 and an A7. Got the A7 when my car was in for the excessive oil consumption issue so had it a few days. Was promised the new TT, but it sold before my car was due in so got the A3 convertible :(

Were you able to choose what you wanted or was randomly given to you?

I'm hoping at the very least they let me choose from what they have available on the day.

Nah just offered to me on the day. The TT was probably an attempt to keep me sweet as I was discussing buying a new car from them at the same time...!

Mines in on Tuesday and courtesy booked. Last 3 cars have been a4 2.0 TDI .......... SORRY nodded off even typing it!! A1 1.4 TFSI .. go kart and A5 2.0 TFSI Cabriolet ... Loved it but the Mrs says no until our daughter is older :disrelieved:

Don't know what's in store this time - SQ5 would be good!

Just been tootling in the A3 s-line saloon. Believe it is a 1.6TDi FWD. Spritely but mpg on the way home mirrors the A5. Good boot with the folding rear seats but the sound system isn't B&O and is pretty poor.

My wife's car was in for a replacement DMF under warranty so I arranged a courtesy car(my office is round the corner from the dealer). They offered me an A1 but my wife needs a bit of space to take 2 teenagers to school. They gave us an A3 1.4 tfsi s tronic which was nice but pretty boring. I never use a courtesy car nowadays with my office so close but a few years ago they definitely gave more like for like cars.

Left my A4 BE+ 177PS Quattro in for a weeks holiday with Belfast Audi - They gave me a new A4 BE 177. My god am I glad ive Quattro. lol

Thanks for your feedback guys, quite interesting reading what you all got.

Seems more like luck since the cars vary so much. My car is due in on the 26th, will update you guys with what I get.

Hopefully something fun which I can thoroughly enjoy since I booked the day off work solely for that reason haha.

I have had an A3 Saloon 1.4TFSI, couple of A4's and last one was an S5 Coupe. They hadn't usually asked me what I wanted but when I booked my SQ5 in last time (which was for warranty work) they called and offered like for like but had to wait a couple of days (this was over a weekend) or she said we have an S5 you can have today...erm S5 today please! After that my SQ5 was sold and I have an S5 on order!

My was in today and yet again 2.0 TDI A4 S-tronic - bored bored bored - only did 40 miles in it thank god!

Only thing I did like on it were the chrome tipped paddle shifters, started another eBay search.

£1000 excess or £10 to reduce to £250!

An RS5 for a day.... orgasmic just thinking about it!!! Lol, think its a long shot but will definitely try my luck. the ladies I spoke to before didn't seem to happy about me getting a courtesy car in the first place lol. I called back a couple weeks after my initial booking to let them know if I could get the software on the car updated whilst they have it, lady was like 'software? what for? why? is there anything wrong?'. I was like 'No... Just want the software updated if there is a newer version out...', you'd think I insulted her ancestors or something after the silence that followed for asking such a thing! haha.

Hopefully I get passed through to someone nicer and sweet talk myself into something amazing, will have to mention the possibility of buying it even though I'd never be able to afford such a machine! hahaha, will keep you gents updated :D.

Good luck.

Having spoken to the service clerk about Firmware updates when I took mine in, I got a similar 'lights on no one home' reaction.

I think they are more customer service than techies, but at least a basic understanding of your car should not be too much to expect! Should it?

Getting myself a new SD card and will do them myself.

Hi mate, called audi today. I asked to speak to someone regarding used rs5 and s5 and if they had any in stock. They kept saying they'll call me back because no one was available which seemed quite sh*t to me especially when someone is calling in and showing interest in one of those cars. Anyway, literally called 3 times over the course of the day as no one rang me back, eventually spoke to a guy and he said they didn't have any in. He did have an rs3 though and I said that would be great. Told him how I was bringing in my car for an MOT and had a courtesy car booked and if I could get the rs3 for the day? He said apparently they don't lend out s and rs models as courtesy cars :'(.

He did say I could test drive it whilst I'm there if it's still available which is better than nothing so yeah, no rs5 for me. Didn't get my hopes up too high to be honest though lol. Now I'm just dreading if they give me a a1 tdi just because I had the gal to ask for an rs5! Haha. Will have to wait and see, only 4 more days to go!

By the way, I didn't know we can upgrade the firmware ourselves using sd cards? Is there additional equipment needed and can anyone do it or do you need special codes etc? Would love to do it myself actually.

I know you weren't explicitly saying this, but not sure I would agree with the suggestion that people buying S an RS cars should expect a higher quality of customer care over someone buying the standard models....

Good luck with you hire car though. A7 was good fun to drive :)

Nah mate, I meant it as in obviously since those cars cost a whole lot more, the salesmen would jump at the opportunity to sell them and pocket a large chunk of commission on it. Was just surprised when no one was available to speak to.

Yeah cheers, hopefully get something nice.

Ah yea...crazy isn't it! When I finalised my sales with a rival dealer I returned to my local and told them I was about to sign the deal, and if they matched it I would do the sale here instead...still refused...don't quite get it myself!

Kinda crazy we shell out as much as we do for these cars based on 40min test drives but never mind...!

Got the courtesy car... They gave me a brand new! 15 plate! 1k on the clock! Standard a4 tdi.... *** lmao.

Interior is nice but the 2l diesel is boring to say the least. Oh well :(

Took A5 in for two services and requested on both times for courtesy car, on the first occasion they gave me A4 2.0tdi no frill, and last one was A5 red cabriolet Facelift 2.0t Mind you the cabriolet was fun!

~Alex

I didn't enjoy that a4 they gave me at all, couldn't wait to get mine back. But as I was driving off the lot, my music wouldn't play on my car. For some reason the USB input wouldn't work. I've tried everything, USBs are definitely working etc. Only thing I can think of is that the engineer disabled it by accident or something.

Taking it back next Tuesday to sort it out...

66 plate A3 2.0TDi 150 S-line in black. Tried to give me an A4 manual but wanted an auto

£250 for me, have had top spec A6, basic A3 and last time I requested an stronic and they gave me a Q3.

For an 8P A3 Cab 2.0tsi - A4 B8 2.0tdi stronic Quattro with a disappointing bang and olufsen stereo and another A4 2.0tdi s-tronic front wheel drive.

Over the years I have had some random courtesy cars. Couple stick in my mind a Fiat Panda 100hp. Most fun surprisingly though was ragging a 1.3 diesel Fiat Panda!! It rolled loads, lit up its front wheels in second gear round corners but it was fun.

I've had a Xsara Picasso 1.6 hdi as well when I was in my early twenties!

Had a 2.0 tdi A6 a few weeks ago, basic trim :puke2::wtf:.

I'd have rather had the A4 and I never thought I'd say that.

So bad I even waited whilst the A1 had its recall a week later.

I did sort out a test drive in the new S6 - Nice but not enough torque after the diesel.

Just had a new A4 Sport for the weekend, some really nice features but there's also a few little things about the newer models I don't fee they've got quite right.
Enjoyed it though.
