Just had my car MOTd earlier on (was due 25th October) and noticed that the expiry date is the 5th October 2016. I said to the garage that it should be the 24th October 2016 as i am doing it within the last month. He said he will get the manager to then be told he will phone me up after.

Anyone know how this would of happened and if it can be fixed to the date it should be?

You can get an MOT early by up to 1 calendar month, minus 1 day, and it'll still be valid until 12months after the current expiry date. If yours expires on 25th Oct you could have had it done any time from 26th September until 25th October.

It's all electronic now so they may be able to change it. Have you checked what it actually says in the system?

Surprised it's not gave you the 24th Automatically, as it's all computerised? It knows your expiry date when you stick the reg in.

Joe is right - it's all computerised so should pick this up automatically - unless the garage have mistyped one of the bits of info e.g. VIN etc. I suspect they've made a mistake somewhere.

This happened to me with my Cordoba. It has a private plate on it, which was previously on my Seat Ibiza. The idiot in the garage just thought 'it's a Seat' even though the Cordy is black and the Ibiza was white, and found the previous details on their system and ended up issuing a Frankenstein MOT - part of the details from the Ibiza they previously had on the system, together with bits of the Cordoba!

I had to send it off to VOSA to get it corrected. So check it very carefully!

It's got the expiry date as 5th October 16! The weird thing is that on the MOT certificate under the previous MOTs and milleage, it is all blank as if the car has never had an MOT before. I do have a private plate but this was put on over a year ago and the last MOT was fine with it. I have compared the last 2 MOTs and it's the same reg plate and id number so don't know how it could of happened like that.

Just off the phone. They said it's a new MOT system which started in August and because i never told them about wanting the expiry date they never done it and they cant change it.

Is this a load of crap?

Yep, a load of bs. Tell them you'll go to VOSA.

Turns out as few other people have the same problem. Emailed VOSA, so should hopefully here back soon. Was wanting to take my private plate off so i can sell the car but not doing that until it's all sorted first.
