hi guys it's been a while since iv posted here 2 year almost since my last engine build.

yesterday I was driving my car and up came 2 faults

so I switched to misfire on liquid gauge and here it is constant misfire running on 2 cylinder

drove home was running lumpy as hell engine Managment light flashing at times.
got home changed my plugs and coil packs started the engine and o my not a nice sound at at, rough, juddering, nocking it's **** off.

so decided to do and compression test and hey presto no compression on cylinder 1 fuckery/gutted, rest are fine normal compression. looked into bores what I can see no sign of damage so don't no what the hell as gone wrong but ain't looking good at all. anyone help me thx.

possible courses:
burnt out valve
dropped valve
piston rings

head is coming off today so I can see the damage is there any way I can use the same timing belt and timing components as they only covered 8k thx Gaz.

hopfully tuffty I thought valves were good for around 400bhp

Standard valves? Any ALS or NLS used? I know some have dropped by using that witchcraft lol

I was not using it no buddy but I do own NLS wich I don't like to use because turbo warranty expires

It's addictive ain't it? Let us know when you take the head off dude.

sadly I am with Andrew ALD on this.
see more than a few exhaust valves which have cracks which join and the piece falls out.. If you are unlucky the piece passes by your turbine wheel too... :( Hope it has'nt

hi guys so head off today and the culprate is a dropped valve seat just 1 that I can tell and see.

on another note my China hotside has held up really well no crack anywhere on the turbo just a pity it's China,

on the other hand has some play up and down on the shaft tiny bit in and out. needs rebuilding.

V3 manifold well noticed this

is this just the weld or has it gone too far and turned into and boost leak

the block looks a it dirty to say I use meth and would hv thought it will be spot less

Cracked manifold won't cause boost leak! Exhaust gas leak..

andrew may beable to help with that bill I don't know to be fair just gave him the head and he did what it was he did lol I know it was ported and polished/skimmed

What exactly does dropping a valve seat mean?

Andrew did u replace seat/springs or anything cannot remember now u did change Exhurst valves correct

Stuff fails, That agu head had probably done 100K before you had it fixed, write it up to experience

ye mate stuff does fail had more than my fair share lmao..
I hv 14k in my s3 without wombat I'm spending now and I hv a baby on the way due in 5 month so I guess it's time to call it a day and turn to something that don't cost a lot of tax or to run.. a4 diesel maybe or a bmw not shore. had fun and enjoyed tuning that's the main thing.
love the car and I'm gonna be so deverstated to let it go

had a little update on my turbo from dan... more bad news wastegate is knackered the arm is bent coursing the wastgate to not shut :((
coursed by what we think happened was the crack in my mani made me loose boost/performance so I added preload thinking it could only be that with it been a China hotside and the crappy arm it has iv maxed it out and it's bent not letting the wastgate should good knows how long this has been like this... must hv been a wile for shore.. gonna feel so much better when finished and fixed

This is a hotside that came with the original Cr-turbos hybrid. The turbo otherwise is perfectly fine and in good order..

The wastegate arm is twisted through about 60 degrees now, so even though pretty much all the preload was added possible, the angle of the arm now means the wastegate can't be closed properly. I can only think the rod inside the bush has twisted possibly due to more preload being added to the point it ran out and was just acting like a level as the nut was done up.. Shame as I think if the crack in the manifold hadn't happened maybe the boost wouldn't have dropped off and the preload wouldn't have been added.

What exactly does dropping a valve seat mean?
A valve seat is a hard steel ring that is pressed into the opening where the valve sits when it's closed. It's machined when it's fitted and the valves are then ground in to the seat to give a perfect seal. The constant hammering that the seat takes from the valve closing along with high temperatures can occasionally cause the seat to become loose, and it drops under the force of gravity.
