Hi all
Got in to my 6 month old A3 saloon today and noticed the MMI radio display looks different. Normally i just have a big list of stations that remain on the display, but i now just have the station name and a big antenna symbol. I also noticed that on occasion i have a small " i " symbol next to it.
Any ideas what this means or how to go back to the big list of stations?
It was normal last time i used the car and all i can think of is that my wife has changed something, but what???

Press the Memory button to return to the list of stations you have saved. By the way I have no idea what the 'I' does.

DAB is a bit hit and miss on occasion. I have never saved any stations - maybe that is it ??

Mine's like you describe. It's due to having the view option set to - not sure what, but it's the setting you need to show album art when playing music.
Can't remember the exact settings, but I think you need to change it in Settings.

To return to the dynamic list of stations, either:

Turn the rotary MMI knob and they will appear temporarily

Or

Under Settings - Untick Detailed Station Info (this will keep it on the dynamic station list)

The "i" symbol indicates that there is Radio Text associated with that station.

To see this, press "Function" then turn the rotary MMI controller to "i" to see the Radio Text.

All this, and more, is in the manual. ;)

Why on earth they can't just display the radio text on that screen instead of just 'i' is beyond me. Really stupid to have to fiddle with the MMI function menu every time you change stations or start the car just to keep the text visible.

The answer is partly political, partly technical. It goes back to the original RDS specification, you are not supposed to have scrolling station display (PS) names, and in the UK generally, all the broadcasters adhere to this. However in many other parts of the world they break this "rule" and to cut a long story short, many OE manufacturers now no longer display dynamic display names (PS) or Radio Text (RT) on a large screen because they would present a distraction. One country in particular, displays scrolling adverts!
