Hi

I think I've read about every RNS-E retrofit post I can find but I'm still having an issue. I have a 2006 A4 avant with Bose and a single din Concert II. I've put in an RNS-E from a 2007 A4, part number 8E0 035 192 Q, H73 SW 0550. I don't have bluetooth or anything else connected to it.

The problem is that even if I switch it off and take the key out I can hear the speakers hiss as if something is still powered up and I'm worried the battery will then drain. I've coded it in with vcds as well.

I tried to read everything I could about pin swapping. From what I can see pin B7 on the RNS is for Bose. This wasn't connected to anything in the quadlock adapter so I moved pin B3 which said V-signal on the RNS to B7 for Bose as following it back this now connects RNS Bose to Concert Bose on the car wiring side.

Pin B5 K-line on the RNS connects to what was K-bus on the Concert wiring.

Have I done this wrong or does anyone else know why it won't switch off completely? Thanks in advance!

It wont turn off until the car is locked and left for a while. I'm surprised you said you had read everything as i posted about this only two weeks ago.

The RNS-E goes into standby mode when the ignition key is removed and then into shutdown after the car has been locked 10-20 minutes. It's just in case you were getting fuel or something, it doesn't completely shut down. Keeps the GPS locked etc.

Same when you press the unlock, the RNS-E gets ready, acquiring GPS Lock etc, even of you have not started the car yet.

Yes I had seen some of your posts and I'd tried leaving it for an hour and the speakers were still active when I went back to it.

I spoke to the seller and he said it was fine in the 2 cars he had it installed in. He suggested it could be something to do with the can signal as this is what switches it on and off. There are 2 wires on the loom for can-H and can-L and the Concert stereo had 2 pins marked as can. I think I'll try taking the black wrap off the adapter loom to see exactly where each wire is connected to.

I left it unlocked. The things I read were quoting various times of 10, 20 or 30 minutes before powering down so I left it an hour and thought it would surely have switched off by then. I just opened the door and checked the speaker straight away.

Would that not mean if you forgot to lock it you could have a flat battery the next day if it never properly switches off. There seemed to be others who were getting up to flat batteries after putting an rns-e in.

No if you leave it unlocked the RNS-E will shutdown due to lack of signals from the car in about 30 minutes

Basically as soon as you open a door, it wakes up.

So unless you sit in a locked car for some time how will you know?

Looks like I'll just need to go for it and leave it in. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

sorry to bump this, but.. so, is this a normal thing? is kind of annoying.
i'm dealing with the same issue. but its not only when the car is off, i can also hear it when i play music kinda low either from SD card, ipod, aux or radio.
At the beginning i was thinking it was poor reception on the radio but it was even after turned off as happened to you.

so as far i understood, is it normal?

I have worked on three B7 RS4's this week and they all did. As mentioned above by S8CRAIG it will shut down after time on its own and restart when unlock/open car. I dont think you will stop it.
