So, are we to believe that the A6 is to be left out of the USA emissions debate? as so far, I've yet to see any mention of them in the press....

Forgive my naivety - but is it because they dont sell the 2.0ltr diesel in the USA, and concentrate on the 3.0? And to date that (3l) seems to be out of the equation???

No doubt this is going to be an interesting few weeks / months / years ahead for VAG group......

Someone had to say it @gordie1973 - i think you're right and they don't have the Diesel over there... but what next indeed? We hear that there will be compulsory testing of all Diesel vehicles - can it be ALL or just new ones/last 1 year etc...? Whom will be paying for the testing? Then what... I would be surprised if the inevitable _doesn't_ happen and that many vehicles are reclassified into higher brackets... then the cars that we've bought on a certain understanding will cost more in tax than we were anticipating. Likewise I would imagine they'll hike diesel fuel duty too and then what happens to the second hand market for these vehicles... nose dive?
 
Sod's law that I buy my first diesel ever less than a month ago, and then this happens. I know there are jokes on the web, but I genuinely think that this is going to be a mis sold ppi level scandal that will affect us all, and part of me thinks I should hand mine back (still within the month /1000 hand back period) and get something else petrolly whilst I have the chance.

Everything I have read so far states that the current Euro6 engines are not affected by this issue and that would include the A6 Ultra

I've got a 2013 bitdi - cannot see if it's 5 or 6 compliant.... Will investigate further

It is Euro5 not Euro6 (needs AdBlue to make it Euro 6). However so far the 3.0 engines do not seem to be implicated so you are probably OK anyway. Apparently one of the triggers for the software going into "let's cheat the test" mode is that it it senses the front wheels moving and the rear wheels are stationary. The engine management software needs to go into a special mode when it senses this as it is clearly not a normal driving mode and would send systems like stability control into a complete meltdown. Clearly in a four wheel drive car this is not something that can happen. Now I am not saying there are not other option to make the car go into cheat mode and the reports about wheel movement may be wrong, but so far you are in the clear.

I spoke to my dealer today as I'm collecting an 2l Ultra this week. He told me that its only the Euro5 engines. My 2014 A5 thats going back may be effected but by the time I find out it won't be mine anymore.
 
Yeah - because VAG were happy to cheat the emissions tests on EU5 engines because they couldn't make them compliant. When EU6 was introduced which almost halved the limit, they magically solved the problem in their engines. And you believe them?

Excuse the sarcasm, but it's like asking a habitual liar a question. Would you ever believe them?
 
I can't believe this won't have a massive impact on the diesel engine industry. Sad really.
 
am I one of the only people who doesn`t care about them cheating ???? I didn`t ever buy a car on what its emissions were

Well, if everyone cheated, and for clarification we are talking about the biggest company in its category not just cheating but acting fraudulently and illegally for 8 years alledgedly in an effort to damage the environment on a mass scale to make more money and you don't care, I think is your own perogative.

My view is apathy won't help and being ignorant is not helpful to the environment. It is our responsibility to look after the environment as we pollute it.

For example, deepwater horizon situation was important in ensuring it changed how the whole oil industry behaved. If more people didn't care, every company would do the same and it would get worse and more corrupt.

Same for cigarette companies. "Smoking does not cause cancer BTW".

They say ignorance is bliss, but i think we all have a collective responsibility to ask for companies to behave responsibly - especially when it's the environment.

if no one cared, just like yourself, where would we be or end up? I'm not having a go, but politely trying to persuade you that we all should care. It's our heath and our planet.

My first point before going environmental activist is that diesel technology deserves better and if this damages its reputation long term, i think its sad for the tech.

Personally, I won't buy another diesel until i can be convinced i won't be pumping excessive particulants into the air my children breath.
 
I think, for me at least, I agree that I was force fed so much about the diesel economy and being better for the environment etc that got me to buy into the whole facade. (Having a 20 month and one on the way brings these things front of mind!£

The kicker for me is that it has been the single biggest expense outside of the mortgage, and was bought for the premium experience / lower depreciation than a "std" motor, i would like it to do exactly what it says on the tin. Which to my mind potentially becomes diluted with a patch that a) will pull down the power and b) will cost me ££££ more than expected in the long run.

If it had been a £150 iPod, and it was patched due to signal problems or such, and as a consequence of that you lost some speaker volume, then yeah, it's not such a big deal, but £35k and 3 years down the line I lose another £x because of blatent deceit, yes it hits hard. (And even if my car is unaffected, the residuals will be hit anyway because of the market reaction towards the brand).

Will see what Audi et all the VW group come back with in the next few days.

I still love the car, but the Audi shine may never return.....
