There's a few people desperate to jump on the bandwagon for their own ends understandably, which is why we've had all this 'dirty diesel' and furore over nitrogen oxide nonsense recently. The only way to get petrols more efficient is to go the much more expensive hybrid route. Petrols are over on the road to electric drivetrains. Unfortunately for VW, they've left the door ajar.http://www.cnbc.com/2015/09/25/vw-faces-about-the-worst-situation-ex-gm-exec.html
Diesel doesnt make sense and hasnt for a while
Well, they meet the legal requirements because they've passed the emission tests...............Just found an article in autoexpress that implies new euro 6 engines could be ok:
--
The Volkswagen Group's share prices have fallen nearly 20 per cent since the allegations began. However, Volkswagen have confirmed that new vehicles from the Volkswagen Group meet the latest EU diesel emissions regulations.
In the UK and Europe, all new diesel cars must meet the new Euro 6 standards where each new car sold cannot exceed 0.080g NOx per km.
Volkswagen said:"New vehicles from the VW Group with EU 6 diesel engines currently available in the European Union comply with legal requirements and environmental standards."
How do people know if there a3 is a euro 5 or euro 6 we picked up our 2.0 tdi in December last year trying to find out.

********. This was as a result people high up asking an engine to do what it simply couldn't. They are only digging the hole deeper.Blaming the staff now!
“unlawful behaviour of engineers and technicians involved in engine development”
They will want to do that, obviously, but that will cause other issues such as people not wanting to bring the car in or unofficial remaps.Swap engines ?. All they will do is a re-map on the ECU to tell the NOx trap box to turn on while you are driving. Which in turn will increase the burn rate of the diesel and give you less MPG(and maybe power ?)
My 2.0 TDi 150 has the following figures from the V5:
CO: 0.144
NOx: 0.065
HC+NOx: 0.101
Does that mean it's a Euro 6 or Euro 5 ??
As Audi produce most of the engines used by VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda in the Audi engine plant in Gyor in Hungary I assume it affects all models in the VAG group. It is far more likely that the software was produced by Audi engineers than by VW themselves. Thanks Both, Appreciated.
From reading the posts, presume now that it's a waiting game to see what action is to be taken - if any.
Having a Euro 6 Engine does that mean the likelihood of any action is zero / lower / higher than expected.
Has it been established that Audi are actual offenders, or is VW still out there on their own at the moment ??
Also, is the UK / EU requirement a lot different to the US requirement.
Or is all the above what people are waiting to hear / be announced going forward.
Cheers.
Martin really needs to sell his cars - not
The former chief executive of Volkswagen, Martin Winterkorn, will net a €1m (£740,000) annual pension from a €28.5m pot held with the disgraced carmaker, and could be in line for a €3.2m payoff after quitting on Wednesday.
Winterkorn, who was one of Europe’s highest-paid executives, with a salary of €1.6m boosted to nearly €16m last year with bonuses and loyalty payments, finally fell on his sword as the extent of the emissions test-rigging scandal emerged.(The Guardian)
I just want to know what specific cars are involved.
