hi I have just placed an order for an A6 Avant BE and originally told it would be here by December, just spoken to dealer who has advised that due to supply issues with the wheels I have specced it would be delayed till build week 11 next year?????! However if I changed to the standard alloys it would be build week 43. Has anyone else had issues like this. This is my first Audi order.

Options can have a big impact on build date as third parties will often only build in minimum or fixed size batches and if you have just missed the boat on a build you will have to wait until the next batch is built. Sounds like that is what is happening here and the impact is often felt hardest with less popular/common options, such as SuperSport seats, panoramic sunroofs. Colours can also be an issue when looking to get a quick delivery

Apparently it's the wheels? Which seems crazy to me they have said if I take the stock wheels it will be with me at the beginning of December so it's not the rest of the spec that's the problem!

But if the company manufacturing the wheels you want is either not making another batch until next year or all the ones they are making are all taken for existing orders then you will have to wait

And that's acceptable? Sorry this would be my first Audi after visiting Audi dealers before and not been impressed with the levels of customer service and always ending up buying new from another manufacturer I thought I would risk it as the dealer I am dealing with is great and the A6 is a fantastic car however it seems that the dealer has been let down then the customer. I'm sorry but a six month wait for a new car is not acceptable.

Go to VX at the moment and you'll wait 6 months on a VX Line Insignia. It's not just an Audi thing. What I would do is accept the car in the early build week and ask them to supply the option wheels when they hit the factory/dealer.
I think you'll find transferring to another car manufacturer you'll end up in the same boat. As has been said if you spec certain options that are not normally chosen they don't have a stock supply. Thus you'll wait. Vauxhall are putting 19inch Turbine alloys in their VX Lines instead of 19 inch Atomics because of the wheel manufacturer not keeping up with demand. However, they will swap your wheels when they become available. And the best bit, they'll let you keep the Turbines for your troubles.
Don't ask you don't get. The dealers there to please you not the other way around.

Acceptable? Maybe not but that is the situation. I ordered my facelift SE Avant at the end of March, this was a standard car with the only "option" being the colour Tornado Grey. I finally got it 4 months later and that was with an amended order already int he system. In this day of just in time manufacturing and all manufacturers taking steps to optimisation production and keep costs down it is unfortunately inevitable that less popular options (including colour choice) will impact delivery. Also Audi are doing a lot to limit suppluies of A6s to avoid over supply in the market and protect residual values. This will no doubt have trickled through tot he parts supply chain who have cut back on production as well

Are the wheels you want the same size and the standard wheels? If so I would definitely see if the dealer will swap the tyres to the wheels you want when they are available. Might even be worth checking if the wheels you want are available through the parts department as it maybe they have them in the system for aftermarket fit but not at the factory
