I have had a battery drain issue on my Cab for as long as I can remember, checked everything including fitting a new battery, car starts OK but every morning it cranks alot slower than it should.
I noticed this ticking sound coming from underneath the passenger side footwell being the NS front wheel, sounds like the fuel pump priming, it makes this noise all the time when the car is stopped with the engine off either when it's locked or unlocked, it still does it.
Has anyone else had this noise, is it normal to do it when the car is parked and locked?

I can't picture what is down there.
The fuel lines run up the drivers side though and there's no pump between the tank and the engine.

No noise there on mine.Thats where the screenwash bottle is .Is the pump OK?

It's coming from under the time panels on the chassis, I need to remove the trims to find out what it is exactly but don't fancy getting under the car in the wet!. The washer bottle is within the engine bay. May start pulling fuses to see if it stops.

Put an ammeter between the negative terminal on the battery and the negative strap then pull the fuses and replace them one at a time to see what's drawing the current.

Best not try to start the engine with it connected unless you like the smell of burning electrical cable though!

I will give that a go, thanks.

It's strange as this ticking stops as soon as either passenger or drivers door is opened......

Yup everything on the car works as it should do (apart from the battery drain, scanned the car and it shows no faults. It's just the ticking, it sounds like a pump as sometimes the ticking is faster than others, sometimes it stops then ticks every 10 secs then starts the same as in the video.

That is an odd one!!
Can you hear it through the back seats?

The washer bottle pump is behind the trim in the wheel arch.Sometimes you can pinpoint a noise with along wooden handled screwdriver held to your ear like a stethoscope

Ah OK, I'll pull the arch liner tomorrow and see if its coming from there. The sound did sound like it was coming more from under the trims on the chassis but it was very hard to pin point due to it obviously ecoing through everything.

Blackquat sound is coming from the front, if I sit in the car and close the doors you can hear it in the passenger front footwell but its louder from outside the car

Cant see why it would be the pump which shouldn't be live with ignition off.You should hear more with the wheel off or take the glovebox out and get close in.Use a screwdriver if you can .It really magnifies the sound

There's a bomb in your engine don't go under 20 mph or its goes boom

I had a ticking noise on my 1.9 tdi.......ended up being the roller for the AC/aux belt

But that's when the engine is running. This is everything off and the car locked isn't it?

Hmmmmmm abs valves switching ?
Your going to have to lift bonnet and give us a bit more of a clue where the noise is.

Take your pollen filter out and see if you have anything in the blower motor, that's in the NSF.

Yup this noise happens with the engine off and if the car is locked or unlocked but if the door is open it doesn't do it.

Noise is coming from under the car and not the engine bay. I'm going to check under the chassis covers at the weekend and see what is under them

Little update on this. I noticed that when I get the ticking noise the power button on my auto dimming mirror is flashing rapidly but very dim, unplugged my auto dimming mirror and the noise stops. Pulled the fuse for the central convenience module and the noise stops. My rear view mirror was retro fitted by myself and gets its power from the interier light, think I'm going to have to check all my wiring on the mirror. Only other thing I can think is their is a short inside the mirror as when I got it it didn't work due to a fried transistor which I had to replace. Mirror works fine, I just get this ticking and the power button strobes. I'm assuming the ticking is a relay in the central convenience module.
