Hi guys! :sign imnew:

My name's Ash, just thought I would start a thread for my recently bought S3. She's a Red 2002 BAM.:redrs4:

She has 114,000 miles on the clock, is completely standard and runs so smoothly! Had it checked out by my local garage and I need to have a new rocker cover gasket as it's leaking all over the turbo, as well as a few of the pipes need replacing as they're knackered. I'm getting the oil pump filter checked and cleaned also for peace of mind :)

I need some advice about a strange noise from my steering. I've read on the forums about the power steering problem and have checked my fluid and its actually slightly over the max level. Would this cause the noise? It doesn't make a noise when first starting the car and only starts after having driven for a little while. Can't hear it whilst driving but maybe that's because of engine/road noise. Here's a video:

http://vid1006.photobucket.com/albums/af187/Heshmagray/IMG_3141.mp4

Ok so on to modifications. I want to eventually get a stage 1 remap, I will definitely be going to Badger 5 when the time comes. Before this I want to get a B5 TIP and a 3” downpipe as it seems these are must do mods to get the most out of the remap? Are there any other things I should have done to make the most of it? I'm not too knowledgeable about cars but I can't wait to learn more!

I may get the alloys refurbed as they are worse for wear and I'm still thinking about any subtle visual changes I may make.

Anyways enough of me rambling on, I'll ask any more questions as I go along.

Here she is after a clean inside and out (didn't have time to wax) oh btw I named her Jessica (Think Jessica Rabbit:wub:)

S3 are male,A3 are female :) it may be that you just need to change the power steering fluid, it starts to get thin after a while. As for the wheels, high gloss black suits red really well imo.

Hi Ash, very nice looking S3 you have.

That's the exact same noise I had last week, I posted a vidio of it aswell (take a look) http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/index.php?threads/Can-anyone-Identify-this-noise.252453/
It came on suddenly and disappeared just as quick and hasn't come back since (yet, lol) so no idea what caused it unfortunately.

Also you may want to look into fitting a front mount cooler aswell if you're going for more power, well worth the investment and it'll make a big difference when mapped

Steve

As far as i was aware intake and catback would be fine for stage 1, then getting fmic and big dp for going stage 2! But then the stages sort of go out the window because you could just get it mapped now...

Intake, downpipe and front mount are all good for stage 1 map if you can get a custom map that's where you'll see the real benefit

Steve

Haha ayfreetee, I prefer it to be female lol. I'm not sure what colour I would want the rims though, I'll have to look around at pics of others. Does anybody know an estimate of how much a refurb would cost?

Thanks Hilife glad you like it! Yh the noise is strange as I had been driving for at least a week prior to it and it wasn't making the noise. I'll ask my garage to try and diagnose the noise when it's in for repairs.

How much do you guys guys think those parts would cost separately to install? (TIP,FMIC, 3" DP and catback) I just need to get an idea of the money and if I'm going to be able to afford it any time soon haha!

Tom I know what you mean but I want to make sure I get the most out of the remap :)

Cheers guys, and thanks for the help.

Ash.

Yep it's a strange noise, Hope it disappears for you like mine did, try adjusting the steering wheel height to see if it makes any difference

The parts:
Tip from Badger5:
http://badger5.biz/epages/3927bc2c-...869fcd6/Products/v3tip/SubProducts/v3tip-0006

Or:

http://badger5.biz/epages/3927bc2c-...85-4739-96a5-d6cca869fcd6/Products/v2.2Billet

FMIC: Airtec was around £430 iirc or the Toyosport type B (wellycooler) with fittings can be had for less than £200 I believe

If you decide to replace the downpipe it is advisable to go with something like Pipewerx
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=300894410655
or Relentless as they fit much better than some cheaper options but all are a PITA to fit on the S3

The Milltek cat back is a popular choice but quite pricey at around £500

If you're having a garage fit them there's labour to go on aswell unless you are handy on the tools of course. None of this is essential for a stage 1 remap but will make a BIG difference

Steve

I would say if your happy with 250-260 bhp then just pay the £300 for a custom stage 1. Otherwise you will be buying all the other bits and probably spending an extra grand just for another 25ish bhp. But it is a slippery slope! If you want 350ish bhp. Then go k418t hybrid from beachbuggy and all the other add ons but will cost at least 2k all in. Nice to see another red s3 ;-)

Ps what's the colour code as if its misano red then its a special order and quite rare :)

I've got black 3SDM 0.01's fitted to mine. A set of spacers front and rear will get it sitting and looking more aggressive as the rear wheels sit quite far in as standard.

Yep, as I said, red with black rims look sweeeeet, you could add red rim blades and red calipers to Finnish it off nice, but the again, I'm biased.

Hey RB S3 and CMcKenzie it's good to see other Red S3's too! I haven't seen another red one in the Metal. Seen loads of silver ones though.

I'm not sure on the colour code, where would I find it? Under the bonnet?

Thanks for the pictures CMcKenzie, they help a lot. What do you guys think white rims would look like? Of course they would need cleaning every 10 metres but just imagine them clean lol.

Hilife once again thanks dude for all that info! I think I'm going to go down the route RB S3 suggested and get it remapped and then upgrade parts if I want more performance as all of that would take me a while to save for :(

If I get it remapped and then add some of these upgrades as I go along, would they noticeably affect the engines performance? As I'm guessing I would need to get another custom map to take full advantage of the upgraded parts.

Cheers,

Ash

No worries. Im not an expert but from what ive read and learnt through audi net and also visiting places like badger5 is that these engines are all individual due to age and Wear and tear etc. For example one car can have just a remap and upgraded tip and make more power than another will all stage 1 mods. So cheapest and best start would probably be book in @ badger5 for stage 1 remap and get his 80mm tip at same time. If your engine is healthy, then you should get 250-270 bhp. After this it gets expensive so there's different routes such as hybrid ko4 and all other mods (300-350 bhp) or the route I should have gone had I known the costs involved which is big turbo.
And the colour code along with all other options/weight etc is in the boot by spare wheel on a sticker. :)

I'm sure you'll love it whatever you end up doing but best bang for your buck would defiantly be custom remap with 80mm tip as said above, like most people here I'd highly recommend a trip to Badger5 if you're anywhere near. You might even rename Jessica Rabbit to Rampant Rabbit

After that you'll be hooked and already planning your next mod I've owned my S3 for two years or so now and I can honestly say it gets more and more addictive please keep us updated

Yh I've read so much about how remaps can be totally different from one S3 to the next. Yh that's where I'm thinking for a remap as I'm only about an hour away. Do you guys know if Bill will fit the TIP whilst I'm there for the map? Or will that have to be ordered and fitted before I take it to him?

I can already feel the want for more power haha. It's only my second car after having owned a 2003 Fiat Punto, but I'm already getting more used to the power so I just want more! But only my bank account will tell how fast this materialises ha. Also factor in that I went to Thorpe Park yesterday and went 0-80mph in 2 seconds on the Stealth ride, I want more fast lol.

Oh and the colour code is LY3F which is only the absolute Red :(

Rampant Rabbit.... :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy: LMAO! I think that might need to be the nickname when I get it remapped lol.

What's the MPG is like after a stage 1 remap any how?

Edit: And I will definitely keep you guys up to date with any and all progress performance related or otherwise :)

Cheers,

Ash.

Rampant Rabbit, sounds good. yeah the Mrs swears they have a more powerful motor, Hehe

I'm sure if you ask Bill nicely he will fit the tip for you.
My average MPG was not much worse tbh after stage1 map

Drive it like an old man, and mpg might be even a little bit better, but that's a bit pointless though.

Mine's 'stage 1 mapped' with a generic done by a previous owner, I've fitted; Badger5 v3 tip, s2000 filter, FMIC and standard exhaust it makes 260bhp and I still get 28mpg.

Aha yh I was just wondering about "normal" speeds lol. I'm on 25 MPG atm but hardly any motorway driving.

Right guys I have a really urgent question about some pipes that need replacing. Could you tell me the part numbers for OEM replacement or direct me to the correct after-market silicone replacements. My garage is having problems figuring out the correct hoses as apparently they don't match up with diagrams they have.

I have circled them and put a red dot on the hoses I need.

Any and all help is much appreciated.

Cheers,

Ash.

The aftermarket silicone pipes are a better replacement than OEM rubber ones

Steve

Thanks for the help dude :) I'm just about to order them. But before I do, is there a specific set of jubilee clips I should buy to secure them? Also how hard would it be for me to replace these myself instead of paying the garage? I haven't worked on a engine before but I'm guessing changing a hose is the most basic of basic tasks you could get lol.

Cheers,

Ash.

Yeah It's really not a difficult job at all, save yourself some cash and do it yourself if you can, it's just a case of remove the old and fit the new, I've just got standard hose clamps on my breather pipes (no need for anything special there imo) I couldn't tell you exactly what size hose clips to buy though from memory but you could ask the seller that anyway

Also check the condition of the 'hock puck' valve between the two pipes, they can become brittle and they are often full of "manky stuff" just give it a clean if it needs it.

Awesome I think I'll do that myself then after I've figured out clip sizes.

Ah yes you read my mind, I was wondering if that would need to be replaced/cleaned. What is the "hockey pucks" actually name if I need to purchase a new one?

Cheers,

Ash.

It's a 'breather pressure relief valve' or 'breather pressure regulating valve' or 'check valve' or something to that effect lol.

I couldn't find the part number in the stickies but a quick google search revealed this: 06A 129 101 D

Ok so I just collected these from the Post Office. I've decided to replace the hockey puck as well because I'm sure it will be worn out a bit and dirty. I ordered it from my local Audi dealer who charge £32.99 including VAT. I was looking at eBay but want to make sure it's genuine. Any places you guys know that stock genuine ones at a cheaper price than £32.99? (Not really a fan of that price :grimacing:) Figured out the part number is 06A-129-101-A as it's written on the part! (should have looked before asking ).

Cheers,

Ash.

Hey guys!

It's been a loooong time since my last post which I'm sorry about! There's been a few things since then that has happened to the S3.

Okay so first up was a problem with a strange noise occurring normally around 2k-3.5k rpm but randomly appeared now and again on start up. I noticed it become constant on the way back from the Top Gear track after an experience in a GTR (which was pretty cool!). So since then I have been driving it pretty damn slow to avoid potential damage.

I booked her in for a health test at Badger5 for the 20th October.

On the 7th October I had my rocker cover gasket changed as it was leaking quite a bit at the back onto the turbo. That along with the replacement of the intake breather pipe and crankhouse breather pipe were carried out by a local garage to me (after I had to order the parts myself as they couldn't match up their diagram of the engine to my engine for some strange reason, and then delaying the fix by a day anyway).

(Off topic: I went to Learn2Drift in Birmingham on the 11th October and it was a hell of a lot of fun!)

Ok so the day finally came to get it down to Bill at Badger5, here's a list of things done:

Smoke test
B5 TIP (old one was rotting badly and I always planned to get one)
PCV delete, there were several splits
A couple other pipes needed replacing due to splits
BMC twin cone filter (the noise is heavenly!)
Cleaned lots of oil off the engine as it was in desperate need of a quick clean
Dyno runs

When I bought the car I was told it was fully stock. The dyno runs quickly made it evident that the car has in fact been remaped. A part of me is annoyed as I bought the car partly on the basis that it was stock but on the other hand it's saved me a considerable amount of money as I did want to get it remapped eventually.

Here are the charts for you guys that are interested:

Could anybody tell me if these are decent/normal/any good/bad for a stage 1 remap?

Eventually the strange noise I said above earlier was found to be the Turbo-Manifold gasket blowing due to one of the bolts being loose. At this point Bill explained to me how hard these can be to change if needed due to the bolts on the turbo seizing in place. So needless to say I was quite scared at this point. Luckily the bolt simply screwed back in and it stopped the blowing noise so I was pretty lucky!

Now there's a new noise I can hear which is sort of a high pitch squeal. I've made a different thread about that though if anybody can help as I scared I'm hurting it even more :(

http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/help-identifying-engine-noise.256637/

Once that's sorted I can fully enjoy my S3 :D and get it booked in for a full service/check etc etc in the new year. Maybe some other goodies as well ;)

Cheers,

Ash
