Hello peeps,
well i drove all the way to Montpelier in the south of france in the cabby ,im back now after a 3000 mile round trip and car drove fine but im still getting knock sensor fault and when letting throttle off and then back on i get what sounds like a biro being pushed into a spinning fan noise and im ball axed if i can fathom it? it only lasts for a second and only does it under initial load .I cant find it because it wont do it when free reving anyone help please????

Could be a belt tensioner showing its tired when the car is under initial load allowing the belt to flap about for a moment.

Tensioners are brand new seems to come from rear n/s of engine bay but its hard to tell as it only does it when im loading the engine after letting gas off its just for a split second bit like one of those old football supporters rattles. There are reports on other forums of same noise but no one seems to know what it is ? you can free rev the engine all day long and it wont do it , only when you actually drive the car does the noise happen.

No definitely not pinking ,i have found numerous posts on the net about this noise but no answers as yet.

Dual mass flywheel on it's way out ?? or alternator pulley ??? the pulley is supposed to slip in one direction.. i forget which , but if it dosn't it can cause the belt tensioner to make all sorts of noises even if it's new....had to change both mine and my sons in the last 12 months so they must be getting to that age on the B6

Thanks mark i,ll check that , but its a p i t a cuz it wont do it unless its being driven!

Sounds similar to what ive just heard today! Very frustrating as only happening for a few seconds before coming on boost driving steadily!! Sounds almost like something hits the turbo blades on the inlet but if so it would trash the turbo in no time and you would hear it all the time surely!!

Not had chance to get near car so far, to busy but I will look this week.
