Just a little bit of background, I’ve been a member on here since 2006, but not really that active.

I’m now on my 6th Audi (B5 2.8 quattro, B6 S4, B7 2.0TDi 170 quattro, B8 2.0TDi 143, B8 3.0TDi quattro and now B8.5 S4 - all Avants except the B5)

After reading some cracking and incredibly informative reviews on this site, including waiting/anticipation, collection/first thoughts and 1000 mile review threads.
I have been inspired to write my own - I’ll warn you now I’m not much of a writer, academic or some would say even literate! But here goes.

I never really had my own thread, when ordering / waiting, there were plenty of other guys going through the same so I generally just chipped in.

I was lucky enough to share the painful waiting game with some other expectant owners - a couple of which I’ve since had the pleasure of meeting!

Most of my bumbling’s can be found here:-

http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/the-s4-build-wait-thread.214174/

Anyways, this was going to be a 10K miles review, but I’m now on 11.5k miles and just about to have new tyres all round (Michelin PS3 this time)

I collected my S4 on the 30th May 2014 after ordering on the 31st January 2014 (felt like a lot longer but it always does)

My spec:-

S4 BE Avant - Daytona grey (had only just been made available on the S4 when I ordered!)
All the usual items plus the following big ticket stuff
sports diff
Damper control
Dynamic steering
Super sport seats
Tech pack high
Audi connect

Now to this day I still believe I will probably never actually see the benefit of half the above options, but as this car was a 40th birthday present I went a little mad with the options.

I could lie and tell you what a great driver I am, and I needed all of the above, but the harsh reality is I just like cars and I wasn’t going to risk not having them.

I knew I wanted a Black Edition for the rotors and the black trim around the dash, but I had already decided I wanted carbon trim (as my B6 S4 had) and silver Rotors.

So prior to collection I had the interior Piano black trim (soon for sale) switched for Carbon and the steering wheel switched for an RS4 wheel (wanted perforated)

I purchased all the bits myself, still cost crazy money - the dealer agreed to change out all the bits for £100 which saved me the hassle and meant it was all done for collection.

A couple of weeks after, the wheels were booked in to be redone in silver, this was for two reasons, I thought silver worked as a better contrast with Daytona, plus I didn’t want to be forking out for diamond cut repairs.

After this was a trip to DMC in Newbury for a new car detail and carPro CQUK protection - never done this before, but money well spent (not really local to me but defo worth the drive) thanks @scotty76 for the tip
The final touch was Carbon supercharged wing badges (a must, imo)

Coincidentally, the wheels are going back in next week for a refurb as I’ve kerbed two of them.
And the car is going back to DMC end of the month for a refresh.

Now let’s get down to the review, I could get really deep and technical, but most things I could say have already been well and truly covered by others in great detail.

So all that’s left to say is….
After just over 12 months, I ****** love it!

The S4 is the perfect combination for me, I drive to work and back every day, and it always puts a smile on my face.

No mods on the horizon, I would love to get Revo or MRC stage 2, but I’m way too scared of the warranty consequences.

The one thing I would considered is improving the exhaust note, maybe with a valve type system.

Report ends…if you were expecting more, tough!

Cheers
Keef

Succinct @Keef but then the S4 is a good bit of kit. :) I've just cracked 5k miles.

DMC did my sister's car recently, I should be on commission!

I agree, no need to go into too much sycophantic detail with the S4, just drive the mutha :)
I'm on 6.5K in mine since the end of March, and I too ****** love it !
Such a good car - does everything sooo well, from a comfy commute to full on tarmac terrorist.
Brilliant car, brilliant engine. Best car I have had (been a few) by a country mile :)

Keef. Where does it say Avant? I can't find it other than an identifier sticker. Haha driving me nuts. How are your PS3s settling in?

Ha ha, it's on the grab handle for the load cover in the boot!

All good so far, we had a shed load of rain the other day and they seemed to cope well, haven't really pushed them yet until live got a few hundred miles on them.
Road noise seems slightly more than the contis. I've also noticed tyre pressure is the key! The garage only put 27psi in all round and although this felt ok they looked a little flat so I've bumped that up to 30 all round, really don't know why Audi state 36 front & 33 rear!?

How's your mota mate??

I have written a little about it on the thread Tune Ordered. It's really good. There's 2 photos of the intake. Yeah it's hard to pick road noise. I over inflate tyres, and don't put too much more in the fronts, if any, as they say on the placard. From what I've read makers want you to have a soft ride but I like my cars sharp. My wifes' car wafts along on under inflated tyres. She loves it when I wash it, clean it, fill all the bottles up in it but hates having pumped up tyres. Therefore she never drives my cars. They frighten her a bit. But yeah getting back to the PS3s I recon the key definitely is a bit more pressure. Reduces rolling resistance. Its a balance of not wearing out the "crown" of the tread. The makers would have you wear out the shoulders.

@scotty76 - the 36f & 33r refer to 19" wheels my friend :thumbs up:
Yep understand BH. Just always been mystified by the choice of pressures for the 18"s. I see that the official numbers for the 19" are just as odd. Whatever happened to 35psi all round? That's been most of my previous cars. :)

Got to agree with you there :thumbs up:
I think Audi just pull some numbers out of a hat for tyre pressures

Why would the pressures be the same front and rear when the tyres are all the same side but the front is a lot heavier than the rear?
