I'm still lurking, reading threads and often being entertained by the strength of feeling some have about their S3's. I still flipping want one! Im driving a brilliant car, but wanting it's bigger and slightly burlier sibling. The Itch got so bad I stopped thinking about & mucking around with the finance calculator and walked in the dealer today. My motive was to check out my colour & seat options in more than just pictures, then get a feel as to if they were prepared to be flexible (or I'd be flexible right out the door). Turns out the sales guy and I know each other from years ago. We talked rubbish then he led me to an RS3 to check out the SS seats. I'm a slim (Athletic) lad and I've gotta say to sit in, I noticed no flipin difference at all. Maybe it's my shape but I hopped from my standard seat to the SS seat and back again, then decided they to me are not worth the premium. Deffo going sepang And I'm pretty happy I've nailed my spec @ £36k. In principle we've agreed I'm getting a discount. I'm driving for 10% but the crunch will come when I go in prepared to sign the order and we have a word with the sales manager to see if he wants my cash. I'm going low deposit this time (10%) and higher monthly's, just gotta get comfortable with the approx £400 per month payments. damn I wish I had patience and would save up!!! Looking likely for a March 16 car 2yr after I lost my Audi cherry. I willed myself to like the cheaper Focus ST but it just doesn't tick the same boxes....no rings, and simply a different class. I'm now in my personal cooling off period to make sure I'm not being a k.n.o.b
It is after all a car. I remember the days when I was very happy & content with buying a year old ford. What happened.....?
Me, I see it as a reward to myself for working so hard. Plus if you can afford it then why the hell not. Money could always be put to better use though so what makes you throw cash at a premium hatch instead of the perfectly capable mid range alternative???

Reading your post, your logic seems sound and I can relate to your thinking. You only live once, so do what makes you happy, providing of course that the financial burden is manageable. I thought about mine for best part of a year. Somehow, the wait made the final pull of that trigger even more enjoyable. And I absolutely love my car, almost to the point of obsession. I have never owned a car that I love this much before. As for SS Seats, they were a must have for me. I am 6ft 6" and pretty slim build and I find them superb. I also think they look amazing. However, the demo I borrowed had normal seats, and these were also very comfortable. So, go for it and post loads of pictures on here so that we can all share your excitement and enthusiasm on here.

Baldyone you are right on the Supersports seats.

I've had normal seats, Supersport seats and bucket seats in my last three Audi's.

Standard seats are okay, although I can't find a seating position I am happy with.
Supersport seats are only different to the standard seats aesthetically, the seating position and support is just the same.
Buckets are brilliant but unavailable for the S3.

My choice (regardless of cost) would be Standard seats with Alcantara.
Alcantara looks far better than leather (and ages far better), is more comfortable and actually provides a bit better grip.
It's the availability of alcantara that places the standard seat ahead of the supersport for me.
Save your money.

You sound like a sensible chap, so I'm sure will come to the right decision.

@Baldyone if you like the car. Can afford it financially, then go for it. This life to short to waste time on what if's grab it with both hands and live to max. You will love the car, take my word on it. Maybe I don't agree with your choice of colour but apart from that it all good . Good luck :) x

As others have said, life is short, so if you can afford it, and like the car, go for it !

Buy the car for *your* requirements, not anyone else's ! :p

As for the seats, I agree with Craig, I have the Alcantara option, for 3 reasons:

1. I didn't want Velvet on the seat back with the Nappa Leather option (this is a bit cheap of Audi)
2. I didn't feel the SSS held you in better than the standard sport seats
3. I didn't want any sliding around with a leather seat base!

Super Sport Seats are essentially the same construction as the Standard Sport seats, apart from the bolsters:

Construction-wise:
Same Seat Base
Same Seat Back (integrated headrests)
Same width on the seat back between the bolsters
The only difference is the side bolsters (and integrated headrests) on the seat back - slightly more pronounced (not much in it) than the standard seats.

I agree with you. I also worked hard and can afford a nice Audi. But please don't make the mistake of thinking that's it's just hard work that gets you your nice car. It's mainly good fortune. There are thousands of people who work just as hard as we do who will never be able to afford a car like ours, but just dream of doing so.
Count your blessings is my motto.

Just my personal opinion.

Cheers for the comments guys, you pretty much echo my thoughts. I'll check out the alacantra. I'm in Cornwall this weekend after another easy 300 miles in my A3 so plenty of time to chill

ill be sure to post back and let you know when I order it (no if in sight there)

RichT your bang on about also being fortunate my friend. Easy to **** it all up though if you take it for granted. Hence the reason I'm cautious when making a financial commitment.

I can't really be sold too. If someone gets pushy, or tries to be a bit clever then I just walk. I like a straight deal with no giving with one hand and taking with the other and although I know the guy, he kinda gave me that feel. Wasn't prepared to lay his cards on the table, just said we'd get it done when I came in. To me, I'd be walking back into a situation where the sales guy kinda holds all the cards because I've done the asking and he's got me hanging on. It almost makes a pressured situation so it's very clever. Stuff that. Dropped an email to another dealer where I got my current A3 and laid it all out. Have my spec, what car wow had offered and after a little home work what I expected the payments to be. No messing and we got to within £300 quid of the car wow quote, and a full tank of fuel
I'm going in to place the order next week. Is it to early to start the who's collecting on March 1st thread lol
Thanks again for the words of wisdom. Quality forum and I'm gonna enjoy the wait...and probably alter the spec a few times. Colours now either mythos black (with chrome for a little class as much more discreet, I like that) or Sepang. Daytona is done

Folding mirrors
SD Nav

Pretty much like my A3 with a few add on's, fat engine & slick gear box. I'll enjoy my TDI for the next 6 months. Just gotta see if I can hold off when I know it's in the UK

The colour...if you lived in my town you would want it stealthy too. Joking aside, I prefer the understated and if some don't even notice I've changed, or think it's a Sline then that suits me just fine

Trust me they'll notice!! Don't forget people use their ears as well as their eyes!!

Just got back from a drive in mine and lost count of the number of full head-turns. OK so S3's are as rare as rocking horse sh*t round here but even so don't kid yourself their stealthy in Daytona :)

Nice looking spec though and congrats again ;)

There was once a time when I wondered why people would want cruise control, now I wouldn't be without it. If ACC means my car will make cruise an even better function (not removing driver responsibility of course) then that can only be good. As for hold assist, I think electrical hand brakes are rubbish. Certainly with my manual. At £90 if I decide the auto is fine without then I'll just turn it off. A retrofit however just isn't viable

Congrats BO. Your spec is very similar to mine - almost identical in fact. I went for B&O but not ACC (just normal CC) and through load but everything else is as per yours, including colour.

I picked mine up last Friday and on Wednesday it went in for Gtechniq detail and Xpel protection film to be applied to front end and side skirts. See my post in detailing thread for a bit more on that. Not cheap but well worth it if what I have read about it is anything like accurate. Anyway will pick up tomorrow lunchtime and can't wait......forecast for Glasgow tomorrow is rain sadly.....

I have asked the detailer to take some pics as he goes along and of the finished article, as he will no doubt capture all that perfect paint and flake etc way better than I ever could....:)

it's pretty funny actually, stupid as it is I struggled to decide. Always wanted a blue Audi. Ordered Daytona as it's pretty safe & you can't really go wrong with it. Couple of weeks later and I thought screw it and changed it. Then I bottled it and emailed the dealer to see if the order had locked, or if I could change it back and add black pack (couldn't get more different). I then did my best to forget all about it. Today I get the email giving me the build week & telling me he'd handed over a Sepang recently & it was stunning. I wouldn't regret the change. He clearly completely missed my request to change back and given the build week it would've been to late anyway. Options & colour = trouble. Now it's easy and I can't wait to see it in the metal

so what makes you throw cash at a premium hatch instead of the perfectly capable mid range alternative???

Easy: Because I saw my dad go from knowing who I was to not knowing me from a stranger in the street in a matter of months. It changed my entire outlook on life, live for today and enjoy each day as if it's your last! If you can afford it have it...that rainy day may never come!

Yes, sometimes I do think it's a bit OTT for my needs, but when you're on a nice road and hit the noise pedal and that big stupid grin appears on your face and your wife's pressing the invisible brakes and holding the seat, you think "Yes, it's worth every penny" :) :blackrs4:

The best bit is you have your boot mat to look forward to. That's the best option going. Don't listen to the mat haters, they are all just jealous. Here's a picture of my mat, fresh from a tip run, to really get you going.

A bit of a story to tell but I'll keep it short. The beginning is all ^^^^^^^
The middle - canceled my original order in Jan. Had to prioritise a spend at work over my car deposit. Sulked for about a week and told myself it wasn't important
The very happy ending - found myself with most of my deposit recovered mid March. Phone call to Mr dealer, original order got snapped up straight away so it was either gonna be a face lift, or a good deal on something from stock. He found as follows:
Daytona Grey Sportsback Stronic
Tech pack
SS Seats (love them)
ILP
Priv Glass
Comfort Pk inc cruise, front & rear park
Folding / heated mirrors
High beam Assist
B&O (I got B&O yaaaaaaa)
Audi Phone Box (they really spec'd this lol)
I never would've been bold enough to spec so much but we crunched the numbers and made it work. I also kept the all important reversible Matt from my PX. Much to play with and love it! Pics will follow with early thoughts after the first 1000 miles or so
