does anyone find the A3 a little boring ?

Ok, Ok you had a bad experience, thats obvious, and we can empathise.

But do we really have to do the `AUDI is ****` thing again?

The thread title was, does anyone find the A3 a little boring ?
Which has in fact prompted some interesting views and responses.

cheers

Sigh

does anyone find the A3 a little boring ?

yes, its boring, dull steering, overly hard ride

I find the build & feel good factor great, the steering is acurate if lacking a little feel, I fancy a Clio 197 for some strange reason ?

That must be the sporty Clio I like the look of.
Styling is superb.
No use for kids though, and I'd only be accused of having a mid-life crisis.

Strange how in an Audi forum when i compare the A3/S3 to other manufacturers in a positive light, it's seen as drifting away from the point. Not to mention how quick some people are to pull down positive opinions on the A3.... Yet it's fine to criticise the A3 and point out all it's faults and basically say it's crap? Very strange attitude from some people.
Personally i hate most french cars, i just do, i've owned a few and still don't see ANYTHING good about them. 'Querky' cars don't appeal to me.

Audi do make some very very dull cars don't get me wrong. Anything below S-Line spec makes me want to fall into a coma at first glance but the S-Line A3 and S3 are in my opinion lovely cars and great all-rounders. My ONLY complaint is the substandard brakes and at times quite flabby steering.

yep, the only thing that puts me off is its a little "revvy" meaning that on the motorway at 70 i think its ticking over at somewhere near 4k and apparently its a little boomy, I think this was addressed later in life though. There around 13k for a new one at the moment. I also like the look of the 207 GTi, all the good bits of the Mini Cooper S but a little lifless in the steering. Still I had a 207 cc on hire and it was a great little car... Merc CLK or C Class looks good at the moment as well, the 320cdi is getting cheap.

The french are the masters at putting the `fun` factor into hot hatches and have been since the 80s IMO.
Have lots of fond memories of hooning around in Renault 5 Turbos and Pug GTis in my younger days, unfortunately I look for a bit more than that these days.
Fast french stuff does appear to represent very good VFM though.

Sorry, miles off topic.

Cheers

God I loved the 5GTT I used for 6 months, mental little thing

brittle as **** though! - the interior too, yikes

With regard to the A3's dull looks, it's pleasing to see that someone in the VAG group has grown some balls with the production of the Scirroco.
Might not be to everyone's tastes, but at least they didn't bottle it and take the 'safe' option.
I hope it's a sales success, just for that.

It looks like an even flabbier Golf to me.

I fully expect the golf will eventually mutate into a Monster sized blomonge on wheels one day. It must have doubled in size so far.

They bottled it slightly as got rid of the bigger front end, so little disppointed in that, also no 4wd but guessing you wont have problem with that Bowfer as u like a raw feel to it huh fella

I do however like the wider stance on the road & arches etc, does look nice, pity the interior is the ****** Golf 5 one aswell, kinda ruined it to a degree as thats why I didnt buy the GTI or R32, just **** inside

I can almost hear the Astra saying "Hey, that fat Golf *cough* scirroco stole my pies! Get back here!!!

vw-scirocco-opel-astra-7-5-08.jpg

all it needs is some scrolling LED's at front & call it Kit or a Cylon, lol, does look moody that slimline grill & lights, needs some mods to finish it of though

My gf recently bought an SRI CDTI 150PS astra with the XP kit and 18" OE rims

It is a fantasic car in my opinion. they only thing that lets the car down is its dash which I hate

The car is very very quick and pulls like a train

The new VW is very tempting indeed!

I fully expect the golf will eventually mutate into a Monster sized blancmange on wheels one day. It must have doubled in size so far.

I wouldn't say it's doubled in size, but it's certainly a lot heavier.
What can you do though, when people demand aircon, multiple airbags and reinforced crash protection?

I sorted your Blancmange spelling, BTW.:)

The reaction to the Scirrocco reveals a lot though.
This is evidently why Audi always play the 'safe' game with their styling.
Because their owners are, by and large, too conservative to deal with avant-garde styling.
This is why the latest A4 was struck off my list.
It looks just like the old one, so why bother?
Christ, even the new Mazda6 has far more design flare.

I quite like the new Scirocco, its definately a potential future purchase if/when the more bonkers versions arrive.

Im a bit biased though as Im a big VW fan and had excellent Corrado ownership experience.
It will have to be good though to drag from another S3

cheers

The new S3 wasn't even talked about when i was purchasing my A3 2.0t sline with dsg, I could have gone with a 3.2 but I wanted something tunable and not so nose heavy.

At first I found the 0-60 time of 6.8 quite entertaining, what wasnt was the way it went round corners. esp killing everything the dsg getting confused which gear plus body roll

I hadnt driven a day to day car which was as quick as this before, and i learn't that when pushed in the tricky stuff this car was not great at handling.

So i went about a remap after the first 1000 miles could have been half that cant remember now, and weighted up the steering with vagcom. Yes this made the car more entertaining, but in a straight line, around corners even worse.

yeah there are mods to sharpen the handling etc. what i didnt want to do was add all these mods and not be able to sell the car easily, i did this with my last car and it was a nightmare. so until i can afford a new car im stuck with this one with just the remap.

Ive had the car two years now and i'm so bored of it. It does everything ok, nothing brilliant. Yes i wanted a good all round car back then, now I want soemthng thats fast that i could take to the track and have a blast but also squeeze the kids and the shopping in.

A3 they are everywhere I look these days, time to change.

The a3 a little boring?

Short answer, yes.

I have just changed from a VW Golf 2.0 TDI with DSG, full leather interior, heated seats, excellent stereo, privacy glass windows to an Audi a3 2.0 TDI Sport s tronic. And I hate it. Never has a car made me feel so uninvolved and less special. I can't call it a bad car - it's a very good car, but it feels so soulless and is starting to make me feel like a very 'standard' human being.

Avoid the a3 sport if you like to feel special in your car.

One thing about owning the A3/S3 is the amazing modding/appreciation scene (although to be fair this stands for the Golf too). I just changed to an A6 and have discovered that almost no one is talking about or modding the A6 much, if at all!

Holy thread resurrection.

If you're asking me to accept that you found the golf so involving etc and the a3 not so despite the fact that it's the same sh1t underneath I don't buy it one bit

Even a golf GTI to a3 TDI I could understand but no way diesel to diesel. Golf interior is sh1t too

Isn't the a3 supposed to be dull and boring, it's a family hatchback? Surely if you want fun you need to look at an RS3?

What a daft question in the first place....?
A3 S3 RS3, all the same underneath the overpriced extras.
But we still buy them because we want to and the beauty is, you can make them look, go, and be as different as you want them to be.

Boring, I don't get that at all.
If you want boring buy a Dacia.

A 140 diesel isn't the best motor to buy if you want exciment! I love my 200ps Sline. Cracking car, admit it's used as a daily drive.

An Audi A3 has an understated image that has class but sporty. Not boring but not chavvy look. If you want want to be noticed and not boring, yet looking stupid but unusual get a kit car Ferrari.

remmap won't help, mines already mapped, and the focus is a much more entertaining car than the A3 and why should a family car be boring, Ford can do it, VW are getting better ...
Ford is a retirement car anyway beyond the ST models and anywhere above ST models are very chavvy. :box:
