Hi all i havent oosted for a while,

So ive sold my other s3 i had the 2008 one 8p2

I went to see a s3 today 8p3 2009 59
But it has faults with it so need advise on whether i should or should not buy it

1. Reving on idle by itself upto 2000rpm then back down then up again repeatedly

2. Engine management light on

3. P2293 fault code fuel pressure regulator

What could they be ? Its had a full milltek and a evoms intake on it,

Any help would appreciate it

Thanks

can still be worth a punt at the right price. i got mine for around £3k less than it should have been as I took it the day the garage got it in before they'd prepped. had short MOT, air bag light on, air con didnt work and broken glove box hinge. air con was pressure sensor & regas about £170, sailed straight through MOT and fixed airbag n glovebox myself :)

Iirc though didn't you have issues with your last S3?
If so do you really want to take the risk?

Its an automatic but just these few bits are putting me off, what would cause the fuel oressure regulator code ? Would it be the fuel pump ? Or would ocv cause all the faults ? Its a tricky one

Well would you buy a car that's been hacked down a runway or round a track on track days? My answer would be no. Do you know the history of the car, is it a mate and you know its only been stage 2+ and used in spirited driving only?
Me personally I would only buy a car standard and tune myself as I will then know it hasn't been ragged too hard.

So ive been doing a little research and have spoken to numerous vag specialists and 4 out of 5 have set the p2293 fault code suggest fuel pump or cam follower failure so will require new parts and possible new camshaft and an oil change etc to clean up any debris and also a new pcv valve for safe measure, what sort of price is a camshaft ?

Ive read that all the injection system needs cleaning and replacing tubes and pipes, hpfp rebuild, all in your talking nearly 3 grand mate. Thats if the cam follower goes, as the metal bits go all over the place, ruin the cam shaft and end up in the bottom of the engine and where the cam belt is, so would not drive it. Highly tuneded cars are prone to this failure, stupid really as they are easy to change, but a known weakness on the 2.0tfsi engine.

I think even I would stay well clear of this.

Anything can be rebuilt, but it's a matter of cost and reward....I would leave it and look for a better one.

Depends what you want the car for really, If you want the car as a track day tool and want to do an engine rebuild, race cams and lighter pistons, and stick a hybrid KO4 turbo in (Ask S3Alex) with rebuilt hpfp and the car is cheap enough then maybe yes if its had a lot of mod work already done, may save some money in the long run, but as an every day car then run a mile.

Ill see what he takes for it ill offer him a cheeky price going to go see it again tomorrow, cash offer he might accept i can get a rebuilt cdl engine for £2k and swap over is £700 i rekon its sill a £13-14k car specially if i put it back to standard and restore to stock spec its got kw 3 coilovers full milltek so there worth a bit ill see lol,

thansk for the replies ill see if i get it lol and i shall be back with news

Let me just put this correctly.....

Engine rebuild, tougher rods and pistons are fine if someone is going for the sort of thing I have.

Race cams....absolutely not.
There are a couple of options, none of which are either cheap,or practical to time and run.

The stock cams and head are good for in excess of 600bhp without problems, and you would need an ECU like mine, which can run VVT mapping to even think about aftermarket cams.
Don't even consider that sort of thing.

I wont be forging any parts unless there is piston, rod damage or the block is damaged, but its firing on all 4 cylinders had my mechanic check it over, hes a vag soecialist who fitted my old s3's engine etc, he says its pcv and fuel oump related

But as ive said its all depending on how much i pay for The car its worth 13-14k all day long

2010 s3 tfsi with 53k miles

Im going to see it tomorrow so ill see what he accepts for it

I bought the S3 for a bargain of £8750.00
It had issues of course, fuel pump had been taken off and sold so had a oem pump on it which i then bought a loba motorsport one £500.00
Pcv was leaking had that replaced £50 i then replaced all 4 tyres £350 i then had the remap tweaked and it produced 376bhp 356ft lb torque

I then advertised it on ebay and two days later i sold it for £13,750.00

All fault free for the next driver made the money i lost on my old S3 repair lol

Guess the risk was good

And that's exactly why I wouldn't buy a car of eBay!

I would have kept it but the automatic box was just too annoying for me, im not a trader lol just didnt like the automatic gearbox, just got a bargain i guess, the guy i sold it too is very happy with the purchase hes still in contact with me, and has all reciepts for work i had done so it was all legit work carried out, i did get lucky but then again i was unlucky with the first S3, hope to find a manual s3 now the search begins again i guess

you're the first person i've heard that doesn't like s-tronic gearbox.

Its good nice to drive but im just a manual kind of guy, i cant fault automatics just not what im used to i guess, but it was ana amzing car once working properly but automatic box let it down for m, no offence to anyone who has an automatic s3

gotta admit, after having a manual B6 S4 (V8) I didn't enjoy it day-to-day. was contemplating the auto when buying the S3 but tried the manual and the clutch is spot on to be fair. If I ever got a V6/V8 again though I'd want auto for day-to-day use
