I have a 2010 Audi TT - S line. With non Bose speakers , I think the sound quality is poor , and it doesn't go very loud at all before it distorts.

I spoke to the 'car audio centre' about upgrading my speakers , they recommended to upgrade my head unit to start as it would really improve the quality straight away as I would be upgrading the amp.

What's are people's thoughts ? Is this true ? And has anyone done this ?

Cheers , apologise if there are many threads about this , after a specific answer , workout searching deep into the forum.

Hi Smithe,

As of last week I have the same car as you here in Australia. I am much in the same position as yourself, the standard Symphony 2+ audio system is not good. In my case I think I may have a fault so I wondered if you could help me! When the front/rear fader is set full front position, I have good high frequency sound from the tweeters in the top of the dash, but virtually nothing from the door speakers. In fact the level is so poor I wondered if the speakers were missing or disconnected. That is not the case, there is some audio but very low level and without any bass. So I am thinking...could it be set up this way, is there an adjustment somewhere, or perhaps the amp or speakers are blown?

As the car is under warranty I will leave that to the dealer (in on this Friday), but I would be grateful if you could let me know what yours is like... who knows you may have the same issue, which is why you do not like the sound!

As regards head units it seems aftermarket units do not reliably communicate with the car and so I would probably go with a genuine RNS-E, bearing in mind the limitations discussed on this and other forums. That seems to be the simplest head unit upgrade, but it ain't cheap!

I genuinely think it is just the quality Of the speakers and head unit , I would suggest ( as suggested by an audio centre) to upgrade your head unit as this would give you more control over the speller dynamics , and also would improve the amplifier within, that's about as far as I know to be honest , have a go and post it on the forum! :)

OK thanks, I'll keep you posted on progress!
Progress update, the dealer allowed me to compare my car with a similar one and now agrees there is a problem. Basically the front door speakers are not working although the dash mounted tweeters are. I'll let you know what the problem is when I get them to take another look at the car.

You will need to upgrade both. Why Audi don't come standard with B&O systems nowadays is beyond me..

You don't need to upgrade the headunit. And if you do you will likely get some problems. The amplifiers in headunits are terrible.

What you can do is buy an amp, a subwoofer, and leave your standard speakers. And then you buy an audison bit-one this connects your OEM headunit to the amp (as well as adding EQ and other such things) this will sound far superior to a BOSE system, which ironically works in the same way (the amp is where the subwoofer is).

There are other advantages over bose such as shielding...so you don't get EMF issues from your mobile phone.

I recommend getting yourself on Talkaudio forums and asking the same question in the SQ section.
