Hey all

1.9 TDI PD130 here

Im needing some additional more professional advice, help, and points in the right direction please. So whoever reading this who may be able to give some input into the situation would be of great appreciation. Thanks....

The problem:
Ive had my car for about 5 years... running perfectly! Frequent oil changes and services. The engine has done around the 160k mark. It is a standard engine and does not have any mad mods! A few weeks ago i noticed the turbo not spinning, or just not producing any boost at all which has resulted in the car pulling like a 50cc moped. Now at the time the turbo did kick in ever now and then like it was sticking? This happened more when the engine was cold. Today, this doesnt seem to happen anymore, not even when cold.

Now i have disconnected the plug that goes into the air filter (cant remember what its called) - No difference.
I have checked all the boost pipes etc and again everything is in tacked. (the point is you can not hear the turbo present at all regardless of a boost pipe lose)

I have taken it to a mate and hooked it up to VAGCOM and it has come up with an error (cant remember what error) but the mate said it is either the N75 boost valve or the turbo variable vanes inside. I have replaced the N75 with a new one and its made no difference. So now i'm stuck and thinking the worst... a new turbo ?!?!?!?!

The big question is.... what do i do?
Has anyone else had this problem?
Do i need a new turbo or am i missing something here?
Does anyone know a specialist or someone that could help or swap it for a recon or new?

HELP HELP HELP

Thank you all :)

Having the exact code would help...

Its fairly common for the VNT vanes to get stuck on these... normally leads to an over boost situation and then the ECU goes into limp mode (little or no boost)...

VNT can normally be cleaned with the turbo fitted using products such as Revive but as yours is in a fairly advance state of potential failure it may be more cost effective to remove the turbo and clean it that way...

These turbos generally don't fail too often but either way it will most likely need to be removed to at least see whats happening with it

A smoke test is first thing I would do though to check for leaks along with a physical check of the charge pipes as the TDi's use a crappy 'bayonet' clipping connection and these fail regularly causing massive boost leaks...

If the pipes are ok and there are no leaks then its time to look at the turbo

Hi I also have a simular issue to this on my 1.8t.. but it only seems to do it when going on a long journey or up the motorway? I will be driving along and put my foot down and can feel the boost kicking in, but then say a few miles down the road I will put my foot down and then No boost at all...??!! The car hardly accelerates at all and feels very sluggish until maybe a few more miles down the road and then it kicks back in again :/ it never does it from cold or around town driving and it's driving me mad! I was over taken by a silly little saxo vtr full of chavs all laughing as they went passed me as I had no boost at the time.. not good times!
