I bought my A3 in 2011 with the RNS- E and Bose installed from factory . I hardly listen to the radio but when I did it would pick up all the stations but sometimes the signal quality was poor . I never thought anything of it and now I am out of warranty I regret not taking to it to Audi .

I got a W7 installed last month and since then my signal has got even worse . I can barely get any stations now and live in London so the problem must be with the car .

I was wondering if my roof antenna was defective since I got the car. I found one on eBay that is brand new but am not sure if if that is where the problem lies .

Does anyone have any advice or similar issues ?

Thanks

Was rns-e factory fitted. Doubt it's something to do with sub and amp depending on how the input is taken from factory system

Who fitted the audio?

Hi,

The Bose and RNS-E were factory fitted . I got the subwoofer installed by Bloomz audio in Ongar . He just used the factory feed from the RNS to the Bose sub for the W7 .

The radio has never been perfect but it is much worse now for sure . I'm not sure if this would make a difference but I also had my in car camera hard wired to the car battery .

Thanks

To be honest it's hard to say without seeing the car. I'd go for the camera rather than the sub install. Something in the tail gate could have been disturbed when the camera was fitted?

I managed to get the boot lid off and noticed there is a feed to the glass on the left but the wires are cut off the right .

Is this normal for the a3 ?

Right first of all there is a very good chance it could be the JL audio (500/1 I think you have) installed. These are a very juicy class d amplifier and are prone to causing aerial interference. I installed two of these in big install in a mk1 tt few years ago and same thing happened. I put a switch at the front of the car for the remote turn on so when listening to radio (sounds rubbish) he would switch the subs off.

I would pull the remote out of the amp and try again. If still nothing it could be aerial on roof. I would get it sorted and working perfect then re connect amp. You may loose it all with that amplifier.

Hope this helps.

Chris

Thank you very much Perry

Turns out that was the main issue . Felt a bit silly taking half the boot Lid off .

Deciding whether to move the amp to below the passenger seat or go down the DAB route. Has anyone had to make any adjustments to fix the radio problems .

Moving the amp will help.

Dab is a good option and most decent dab units use a internal glass mount aerial. I would try one of these with the sub connected before you finally stick aerial onto the glass though.

This is a common problem with class d big amplifiers.

Same sort of scenario people have with cheap hid kits killing radio reception. It's the interference that does it.

Let me know how you get on.
