As in the title really chaps, my drivers door handle cover is really becoming a pain now, i have used the trusty plastic card trick to tighten it up every few months but its just not lasting now, is there a long term fix and if so, what is it.
any input would be great .

just been looking at the parts diagram and its not clear on how the cover trim attaches , is it a known problem with the actual door handle assembly or the cover trim itself.
I am looking to get it resolved under warranty but wanted to be clear on where the problem arises from , either one or both.
cheers
rob

I had this issue.... i know how annoying this is/was. i removed the cover and placed a double sided gel tape to the rear of the cover and refitted, the rattle has now gone!

is it just the design of the cover trim that causes it to loosen or an issue with the actual handle assembly, how did you get the trim off.

yes its purely down to the design, the plastic nubs wear through the constant use and the rattle then develops! if you pull your handle up and look underneath you will see two slots, place a small screw driver in each simultaneously and the cover will come away.

thanks for that, very greatfull, audi said they will fix it under warranty as its an outstanding issue from a while back they never sorted out, is it worth taking it back or are they just likely to stick it with tape rather than replace the offending cover.

with regards to what audi will do, i'm not sure. I can't see that a new cover will sort the issue as it's the plastic that wears on the handle that causes the rattle. If i was you, i'd do it yourself as it's only a 10 minute job!

yes , like you say, probably a better fix if I do it myself otherwise it will go in for that fix and come out with a whole new selection of problems.
thanks chap.

Suggest you use double side sticky pads of the kind that are used on registration plates, they seem to be more water/weather proof.

The gel tape i used is UPVC based.... i think it passes the water/weather proof test.

Mine was rattling also and I found this elsewhere
Door Trim

It's like using the Credit Card Trick but you can use more force to relocate the locking mechanism.....I used a small flat ended screwdriver to push the stainless tabs to the front of the car and then from the other side of the handle to lock it back into place. I used some moulding tape on the tabs that wear out for now. If it doesn't last I may end up using some form of epoxy.

Took less than a minute in total!
