What's your effective key fob range?

What range are you able to remotely operate the locks from via your key fob? Mine doesn't work more than 1 meter away, maybe 2 at most (from the driver's door side, at least; and it's a left-hand drive car). It seemed short to me (and as if it wasn't enough, it worked intermittently), so I replaced the key fob battery. The old battery was indeed low on voltage, and the new one is OK. Now it works more or less reliably, but the range hasn't changed. Is it by design, so that you can only unlock the car when standing next to it? Or is there a problem with my car's radio receiver or with my key fob?

Our S4 used to work allot further tbh, can't recall if there was a coding for limited distance or not that some chassis have, but default AFAIK is further than your distance.

At least 50 meters for mine, with line of sight - - even through the solid (double breeze-block) wall of my house, the car will lock / unlock at what is about 10 meters.

Thanks. So my short range is odd, but it's not impossible that is a feature rather than a bug? The previous owner of the car does have a VAG.com cable.

If you put your key fob to your head and press the button your head with amplify the signal to make it go further

I used it from about 40-50 meters away yesterday. Sometimes its a bit finicky and doesn't want to work at all.

Clarkson did that a few years back on top gear. It does make a difference, tried it myself. Mine works a good 50 metres away. The Celica (Alicia) is only good for 20 metres though.

I'd say your radio transmitter is on its way out.

We all have good range on ours (luckily)

Replace it if you can. No doubt its faulty.
