Went on an engine bay cleaning spree and had noticed that there was this black gunk/oily stuff on top of the gearbox and also around the injectors/inlet manifold

I was easily able to get it off with degreaser as it wasn't caked on too much but could this be a sign that the engine hasn't been taken care of anything like that?

On visual inspection there aren't any leaks or anything but i guess it will show up now it's been cleaned off...

It looks like the injector O rings have been leaking slightly, make sure you put new ones on when refitting the injectors. They are ridiculous price from Audi (about £5 each x8) but you can get a service kit from Mr Injector (ebay) for less than £20

And yes you're correct on the ludicrous pricing from Audi. $11 AUD each ring. WTF they're basically rubber washers!!! Hahaha

I love my Audi

just did a search on ebay with the part number - so much more reasonable!!!

p.s. are the injector electrical connectors the same on all a3/s3 models?
i want to go to the wreckers, snip off a connector from an A3, make up my own little DIY injector cleaning kit and clean the injectors while doing the o-rings
