After cleaning the inside of the car this afternoon i thought I'd have a go at connecting my smartphone to the RNS-E system, managed to pair the Bluetooth up ok & can make & receive calls. What i can't do is get my phone book contacts into the RNS-E system, anyone help ?

The RNSE should automatically sync with your phonebook when you pair the bluetooth phone. With the phone connected......when you press the "Mode" button on your mfsw the phonebook entries should appear in your DIS display on the dash. You can then scroll through them using the l/h roller to select an entry, and start/end calls by pressing the same roller.
.

There are also some older versions of the Bluetooth module that don't sync the contacts to the RNS-E - chances are you might have one of those...

I take it you either have the physical phone mount either on the dash on in the armrest?

Just a thought but you have given it five minutes haven't you ? It takes a while to load on mine.

Yes i have the physical mount on the dash but i am simply connecting my smartphone via Bluetooth.
In the operating instructions manual i have today found a pin code on the inside of the front cover, i have changed the unit & my phone to this code & the car asks my phone for permission to access my phone book, i press ok & it just asks again & again & again & again etc etc, the list on the screen of the unit
Numbers Dialed
Call mailbox
Directory
Phone book
Received calls
Missed calls

Are all greyed out.
I can make & receive calls but only by entering numbers in the unit.

Well it looks like at least its trying to talk to the phone book :) I asked about the holder purely as in the past, that era of Bluetooth occasionally had the lesser unit that wasn't "HIGH" i.e:

2005
8P0 862 335 D
MY 2005 A4 >8E-5-533 000 - Basic functionality only
8P0 862 335 E MY 2005 A4 8E-5-533 001>>8E-5-600 000 - Basic functionality only

But if your car is newer than that it will either be older Bluetooth module struggling with newer phone or something peculiar like photos in contacts causing it to trip over...

And yes, without the MFSW and contacts list it can be a bit of a pain dialling through the head unit, but doable...

Well to clarify what's what you would have to get the car scanned with a friendly persons VCDS cable to get the Bluetooth part number and take it from there....

These modules have nothing to with phone book compatibility, "Basic" modules as listed above are only compatible with Symphony & Concert HU, they will not work on an RNS-E system, and will give an error on the RNS-E screen saying something like "please insert sim".

I take it when you paired the phone you allowed access to the phone, book? This is usually a prompt or setting on the phone to allow this transfer.

As your phone module will be around 10 years old (unless it's already been replaced) it could be an incompatibility, if so then an options would be to replace the unit with final revision on the BT module compatible with the RNS-E and the part number 8P1 862 335 A.

So what phone do you have make and OS would help. Also how many contact do you have?

It may be down to a bad entry in the phone book, as I've not heard of any problems with the S3 (had one myself and it worked fine) Problem is finding the bad entry!

Your a star B5NUT, went through all my contacts & found one with a number short, works great now.

MANY THANKS
