Cheap remap! What do you think?

Buy cheap, buy twice! Not worth the risk - stick with the big names mate. I've had both REVO and AMD remaps - both awesome and worth the money :)

Hmm i guess so ive always had my eyes set on APR to be honest, only reason i wondered this time is because they claim to have 20 years experience and be market leading in the north west? without the deal it wouldn't be a cheap map, but when playing with my car i would regret not getting the best

ive decided that this is a **** idea and i should wait to get a reputable remap with a RR available, cheers guys, i need to get a decat before i remap anyway! get a little giddy when i see something affordable!

Why do u need to get a de cat?

It makes more sense sorting out my decat and air filter before I map it, I'm not saying it has to be done for a map, it's just silly mapping before changing the intake and cat

If i had a straight through system inc decat and a intake wouldnt i be looking at a stage two map? the map is based on what state the car is in isnt it?

Yeah bud if you intend on progressing past stage 1 then yes a straight through system inc decat is going to be beneficial if not essential. Maybe the guys above didn't realise you intended going past stage 1. And I totally agree with your new decision to now wait and go for a reputable tuner, its definitely worth it.

I'm not clued up on the tune stages for the A3 2.0T but on the S3's you don't see any benefits from a decat until you go stage 3.

Also your car wont pass an MOT with a Decat so most people go for a sports cat which is good up until Stage 2+ on S3's.

fair enough mate, I've only had the car a few months and im still learning about it! I don't really have to worry about the MOT ;) i would like the decat for the exhaust note, ive already got a cat back on it at the moment with a pipercross panel filter, i don't think you can get much higher than around 260bhp with the KO3 turbo anyway, so decat, air intake and remap will be on the cards in the future i think. inter-cooler will be fine up to that spec too

In take case you're right, it makes sense to get a decat before you get it mapped as I believe the map will need to know it has no cat otherwise the dash warning light will come on.

I had a Decat on my previous car, you can get lambda brackets that work more often than not, tricks the system into having less emissions running through the second lambda sensor, hate the sounds off messing with audi electronics! cant even put an LED sidelight in without it sending an error HAHA!

I had a cheap map and it eventually killed my turbo... Never again! I had a custom map done on a rolling road this time round!

Yeah Rob does have a point about the MOT, which is why I have a 200 cel sports cat on my s3. I am guessing you are friendly with your MOT man lol

Performance between de cat and sports cat is negligible and after doing a ton of research before purchasing a tb system the exhaust note is generated mid section back

I think what Smirky was getting at was you wont see any benefits of a decat with a stage 1 map so it would be a waste of money.
My car did 284 on dyno before a map with the DP and de cat so there is small gains an with a custom map I suppose u would gain a little more.

Yes there will be gains between stock downpipe and 3" stock is very restrictive ,but the gains between de cat and 200 cell sports cat are marginal performance wise de cat easier on the wallet unless u have to take it off every year for m.o.t

Yeah I will decide against the cheap map! No point messing around when it comes to your pride and joy! I will end up getting a decat because I'm friendly with the Mechanic which is always a winner! Sports cats are steep! I would be extremely happy having her sitting at 260bhp before next summer, and 60mm lower cheers for the input guys!

I'd never get a generic flash map again. Had one on my 8L S3 and it ran lean. Cracked my turbo, exhaust manifold, and cylinder head. Map on a rolling road only from now on and I'd go back to RTech if I ever wanted a VAG car mapping again.

Bet that was an expensive fix :/ It's really not worth saving the £300 for a crap map is it, I will have a good look at different reviews on here because it seems like every map acts very differently with each car, I will have a look at RTech cheers mate

It depends who has written the generic map , most are agents for a large well known company .

Some generic are very good .

Try to find out who's map it is .

Most offer a money back and revert to std tune.

There called performance blue and they do have a RR, I would have to ring them to see if they would tell me where there maps are from, just risky business isn't it I guess, they give life time guarantee with the map but if anything were to go wrong then they would say it wasn't the remaps fault I guess

To be honest I feel like I have to explain myself when I give a price, mine are slightly lower which people do tend to see cheap but always tell them the truth' in which I'm in a lucky position to have no over heads etc so I can offer a competitive price, so don't be put off by the cheapness if you know what I mean. But do understand where people come from

Just my 5p's worth....

There's a world of difference between well priced(i.e not outrageously expensive) software tuners, who have a very good forum reputation, and other similarly priced offerings which have none.

People like Paul and Rick contribute a lot to the forum, work hard on their products, and have a deservedly good reputation.
