After 8 years of A3 ownership I’m thinking of changing it next year for a new model.

I've been thinking with a revised version almost certainly being on sale next year I don’t know if I should wait or not.

I’m guessing that the car will be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March with production starting in May. Is May VWs usual Model Year update month?

My MOT is due 1st September 2016 and I know there will be some costs to get it passed so I will want to change in March or September (I know I'm a car snob wanting a new number plate to impress the neighbours).

So I don’t know if it is worth waiting a few months before ordering and trying to get a BW in May but risking not having a delivery until after September.

I like the idea of the virtual cockpit screen but it’s not really a must have option and I can’t see the styling being radically different either.

I know I will never buy it if I keep waiting for the new version to come out but seeing this is a big purchase for me I don’t want to feel I should have waited a month or so before ordering so I can get a newer and probably better specification model.

As a comparison when the 8P got revised in 2008 were all variations instantly available to buy or did it take a few months to make them available again?

So do you think it’s worth holding out for a revised model and risk not having it by the September and having to pay to get the car through the MOT? Or just be happy with the current model and not risking having to pay anymore out on my current car?

I'm waiting for RS3 facelift, i can't buy a brand new car that is going to get a renew in less than a year.

But in my case i have not problem with dates, i don't care if it's presented 14 January in Brussels (not very probable) or 5 March in Geneva (more probable), or later. If I like it, I will configure and buy next day after orders for facelifted version are open.

RS3 is my option as well. Seeing that there is around 6 month wait between ordering and delivery I might risk putting my order in February which might have a BW after the update with delivery around September.

I know my dealer has ordered a few RS3s to be built around January to allow customers to get delivery early.

But facelift model with new options like virtual cockpit, smartphone interface or matrix-led will be only available to order after facelift is presented and new configurator ready.

If is presented in march-2016 (guess), new model orders will start some weeks after this, and all previous orders will be old model versions.

Something like this (My guess):

5/March/2016: A3/S3/RS3 8V Facelift presentation.
April/2016: Starting to accept orders for new model.
May/2016: Starting to build facelift versions (Week 21-22 / MY2017 model).
June-July/2016: Last deliveries of old/current model.
July-September/2016: First deliveries of new model.

I've been thinking again about the revisions and if I should I wait.
The smartphone integration isn't really a selling point for me as I don't use my phone for music or pod casts and I don't use my phone whist driving.

I don't think the cosmetic changes will really effect my choice as the basic style car will be the same with only some panel and changes to the lights.

The only reason for waiting to order is to get these revisions which I don't really need and I like the current car as it is.

So I've decided to think about it for a few weeks and if I still come to the same conclusion as now I'm going to order my new car at the end of September to get delivery by March.

Hoping to be posting on the RS3 section soon.

Thanks asport for your input.

Any face lift next year is pure speculation.

There is nothing official announced at all for 2016.

If you like the current car then go for it.

Facelifts don't use to get official announcements too soon because it can affect orders. If facelift is presented 5 march, we will start to see spy shots of A3/S3/RS3s at end of this year or early 2016.

"Official announcement" will not come until previous day.

Delivery times are being excesive long, if facelift is presented 5 march in Geneva and you get your pre-facelift 16 march, it's a little annoying. You should get your car in 3 months after order, not 9, that's ridiculous.

In addition to aesthetic changes and new options, they also can improve engines (S3 from 300->310 like TT S or RS3 from 367->400 like TT RS) then I would not be too happy, so I prefer to wait.

We can see news, probably TT RS with improved 2.5T with power between 370 and 400hp, that can go to facelifted RS3, in Frankfurt in next month (17 september).

Audi’s electronics head, Ricky Hudi, admitted to motoring.com.au this week that it will also slide in to next year’s facelifted A3 as an option.

“Next year in the facelift of the A3, we will also integrate the virtual cockpit,” he confirmed.

“With a well-equipped A3, like the RS 3, why should this customer not be willing to pay another 400 euros for a virtual cockpit? Or a Matrix LED headlight?”

Confirmed again, now in Car and Driver, talking with Ricky Hudi (Audi’s electronics department head):

Also in some german forum (motor-talk), one dealer is confirming it too, but expecting it for July/August, with next changes:

Definitely:
-Virtual cockpit
-Matrix LED
-Motor updates (more Horsepower, etc. E.g. RS3 will get more Horsepower)
-New front, etc.

Very likely:
-Ambient lighting
-improvements to assistance systems

Imagine if you just spent 46k on a new RS3 and it was gonna be facelifted in a year.....thats ridiculous....Audi will lose a lot of customers !

Get it right in the first place, if not upgrade the existing customers cars for free !!!!!!!!!!!!
