I bought my A3 last year and it's now time for a service but I'm not sure which one I need.

It's a 2010 model and has the following service history:
  • 25/3/10 - Audi Longlife Service
  • 9/3/12 - Audi Longlife Service incl pollen filter (15,000 miles)
  • 5/3/14 - Inspection & Oil Service incl fuel filter & pollen filter (31,000 miles)
The car is now at 50,000 miles and the dash says a service is due in the next 500 miles.

Does this mean I can now choose to have a Longlife or Inspection Service?

Also I know this has been mentioned before but what are people's thought on an Audi service vs going to an independent? It has been serviced at Audi dealerships so far but I'm tempted by an independent if it's significantly cheaper and I can't see it would make a massive difference when it comes to selling it (which I have no plans to).

Oh dear , servicing every two years .

Half it to annually.
Well it was every two years (which I assume is Longlife) but I'm assuming that last year it just had an annual service, hemce it's saying it needs one now.

Would a dealer know exactly what service was carried out previously if I gave them the details? I've got a record of the last service but it just says 'Inspection & Oil Service' so I'm not sure if this was Longlife or not.

Service it every year or 10k miles. Oil, oil filter, air filter. Fuel filter every other year unless you want to do it yourself.

Where are you from? Folks and search may give you an insight into appropriate independent specialists for you to use. I have exclusively used independents outside of the warranty period (when in warranty my last three cars were company cars so I went where I was told, 2 of which we bought).

With a good independent then a full service will probably cost less than a dealer. I would change oil every 20k miles anyway. I guess you run a diesel but for example I put my 2.0TFSI A3 in for services every 10-12k miles and get a full service done every time. For <£200.

Can you not go for the Audi service deal, the next two services for £299 for cars up to five years old?

Oh that's interesting, never heard of this before. Website says aged three to five years but the small print says less than 72 months (which is 6 years), so as my car was registered in March 2010 it should still be valid.

This could work out to be the best option. Thanks for making me aware of it!

Yep mine is a 59 plate registered 26/9 2009 and still qualifies for it, so yours is fine mate

So i've now had my service (did the two services for £299 deal - thanks -Ju-) BUT somehow this has now triggered an engine management light which Audi are telling me will cost me £750 to fix!

I also had the cambelt done at the same time and they said there was an error in the system which they tried to remove, but when they took it for a test drive the engine light on the dash came on. This has not happened in my 15 months of ownership and I've not had any problems.

Now they are telling me I need an exhaust gas recirculation cooler and a diesel particulate filter, which will cost me £750 (should be £1000 but they said they'd pay a £250 goodwill payment)!

Can anyone help? Do I really need these parts to get this fixed? Could they have triggered the issue through them servicing the car, changing the cambelt and doing a brake fluid change? I've just spent nearly £1000 on the work they've done so don't need £750 more!
