Hi, last week I bought an A4 1.9 diesel saloon X reg with, as the seller said, needs new switch for indicators. Got one and fitted and they still don't work !!!
Hazards work and every bulb is fine even the ones on the dash. Inspected all the fuses every thing OK, swapped relays over with my mates and they worked in his OK.
At a loss now to what it is....................anybody any ideas as I want to use the car !! Also don't know if it is associated but the fuel gauge also reads half full when it is actually empty, as I discovered when I cruised to a halt on the A1m at Wetherby on my way home from collecting it !
Cheers Steve.
ps, only got one key and not for the remote and sometimes the alarm goes off when I open the boot.

try you're mates hazard switch in you're car and see if this cures the problem as the flasher unit is built into the hazard switch.

as for the fuel gauge issue.. the sender units on them do have a habit of playing up but there seems to be a large case of newbies with fuel gauge issues coming in lately.

Thank you, didn't know that................ but if it works with hazards I would have thought it would work on ordinary switch. Seeing him this weekend so will keep you up dated with the results, especially of him ranting when I pull his to bits again ! lol.

my mate had the same problem with his A4 the hazards worked but the indicators didint. he tried a new switch, fuses replaced the bulbs then we tried a spare hazard switch I had and they started working.

his car was a PFL where as your car will be a FL I think being an x but I would imagine it should work the same

Hazards and indicators all run through that switch so would swap that out as has been mentioned. Friend had the same issue and after loads of headscratchin we swapped the switch from mine and hey presto working winkers. Just a hunch I had after playing about fitting my comfort indicators.

Iirc the switches between pre and post facelift only differ on the button cover button itself. Await correction though

theres two seperate circuits inside the switch, one for hazards and one for indicators.

I've had it fail where it wouldnt flash and would come on solid if you tried to indicate, but hazards were fine.

New hazard switch should sort it.

AFAIK the switches are different between pre and post facelift. Folk swap the Facelift button onto the Prefacelift switch to save having to rewire it when they convert the console, so best sticking to the correct type.

Guess what ?? I must have a face lift version as it is different to his. I have the 4 clock version with the fuel/temp gauges at the top, other 4 clock ones in scrappy have them at the bottom and hazard switch is different.I need the one that goes between the cup holder and fog lights.
Says on it, PNT with the code 8DO 941 509H. With another code at the bottom PA6 GF30.
Don't know if they are relevant, but it is a horizontal style box rather than a vertical one.

Yes ..................................but the sellers on e-bay still have them because they are over priced ! For god's sake you are looking at a (on average ) 15 year old ****** switch !!!

We have lift off........................................................ for the sum of 5 quid.
Different code (that explains the different coloured sticker ), also has an extra pin, but who cares I CAN NOW DRIVE IT AGAIN, LoL.
Onto another post now to explain another problem.

Thanks to everyone who pointed this out to me as being the likely problem.

Happy to hear you got it fixed. Enjoy the driving. :) x
