Hi guys,
Im new to this site but alot of you seem to know every in an out of the S3's!
I have a 2002 S3 1.8T (BAM)
Shes been driving perfect for the first couple of weeks ive had it an on monday morning wouldnt start, all the electronics work, wipers, lights, interior lights, dash lights up fine with warning lights, everything but the starter motor dosent budge or make any attempts to turn over :blue:
Ive code checked the car an nothing comes up, ive left the battery disconnected for an hour an still nothing, rocked the car in gear to try free up the starter an still nothing, its stuck on a drive facing up hill at the moment so havent had the chance to try bump starting yet
Anyone have any suggestions ? Or is it just a case of biting the bullet an geting an fitting a new starter motor ?
Cheers
Chris

It does sound like it could be your starter but worth checking the basics first if you have a test lamp or multimeter check you have power at the starter exciter terminal when turning the key to crank it over.
Could also help giving the starter a friendly tap with a hammer that sometimes frees them up.

Have replaced a couple on S3's/TT's in the past so they do go faulty...

Not too difficult to remove and you could test it off the car to double check before buying another

Obvious thing is to test the starter is getting voltage to it and the solenoid

Cheers guys, i managed to get it up on flat ground last night an got a bump start an fired up, took her for a quick drive an everythings all good, got home an turnt of an of course didnt start again after that so guess im going to be doing a starter motor on the weekend haha,
Cheers once again!

The starters tent to get gunked up with dust from the clutch and dry out the grease on the shaft, when removed, give it a good blast out with some brake cleaner, then re grease the shaft, it's worked for me a few times.
