Just thought I'd write an open letter to the Silver Golf R32, who I had an encounter with today....

Dear Sir (or dude - coz you looked like a dude),

I thought I would drop you a quick line to thank you for inspecting my rear bumper, as you pulled up behind me today as I left Camborne. Not sure where you came from, as I pulled up to the lights, I looked and I had nothing behind me, and a fraction of a second later you were there! Do you have a stealth mod, to go with lowered suspension and blacked out windows?

Anyway, I'm sure you would have let me know if there was something wrong with my back end.... Fortunately, I just had time to flick my car into dynamic mode before the lights changed, in order to ensure that you could see my full rear defuser and exhausts as I pulled away, as it was clear as the lights changed, that you wanted to stick with me. I pulled away sprightly, to give you a chance to see the best view of my rear, and as you were only about 6 inches away from me as we moved off. It was a shame however, that you couldn't maintain that distance, and I'm really sorry for the pops from my exhaust as I pulled away. My car actually has 6 gears, but I only needed to use 4. I'm not quite sure of how far you slipped back on the dual carriageway, as I pulled away, but I was delighted to see you back at 6" from my rear end (eventually) as I slowed for traffic.

As you know, once the traffic pulled away, I was more than happy to make full use of the full rev band and those flappy paddles again, in order to give you the best siloette as I disappeared into the distance. Fortunately the queuing traffic at the next roundabout gave you a chance to see the quad exhaust again really close up...an inch away was impressive judgement.

I'm sorry however, that was the last I saw of you... You disappeared from my rear view mirror, but I was sure you wanted to remain close.

In closing, thanks for your close company today. It might be prudent to give the Audi S3 8v a wide berth in future. Your R32, despite being tricked up and lowered (and I suspect chipped) really really is no match for a stock S3. I'm glad you find the rear end so interesting!! Shame you didn't see it for long when we were moving - tw@t.....

PS. I'll be back in October. The car will be the same colour, but look slightly different. The four exhausts will be replaced by two large ovals, and I'm sorry to say that the pops from the exhaust will now be accompanied by bangs as well....... You couldn't keep up with my S3 - you'll have no chance when I add an R to the front of S3.......

What an idiot, he should of known all that character is heavy and slows the R32 down :tonguewink:

I think many a boy racer will be embarrassed by an S3 and their straight line speed!!

I always have Golf GTD owners checking out my rear bumper.

I want to get a sticker for my boot that says something like "bye bye TDI !"

Happens all to frequently when you have an S3

Had a similar incidence on A1(M) around Peterborough yesterday morning around 8am. On three occasions I gave it a few seconds of beans to pull away from a blue 3 series BMW that insisted on driving in my boot at 80mph. After the third attempt of showing him I was way quicker and not interested I gave up and pulled into inside lane, slowed to about 70 and let whizz past at 90 (lol)

If that made him feel happy that's fine, but what a ****.

I'm sorry but I think you're both a problem. Whether you thought it or not the Old Bill would have considered it 'Racing'
I'm sure you felt in control but had you needed to stop in an emergency the result could have been disastrous. From your review it's clear that the roads were far from empty.

The best way to deal with muppets like the guy behind is to either to drive normally and really disappoint him or let him go on his merry way.

I'm sorry if I come over all Victor Meldrew but public roads are not the place for such behaviour.

There's previous history of similar with fatal results by a member on here.

@steeve understand what you are saying but sorry going to disagree in my instance as you were not in the car with me and have made some assumptions and I certainly don't see myself as a "problem" unless you class acceleration in 6th gear in comfort mode as driving like a dickhead and I certainly was not the aggressor.

Road was relatively clear on each occasion, that section of A1(M) is 4-5 lanes and straight for several miles. I put my foot down on a completely straight section, both hands on the wheel for no more than a couple of seconds to clear a gap then safely moved to the inside lane in an attempt to get away from a dangerous situation. Certainly not my fault that when I move out into middle lane to overtake a lorry and the BMW gets right up my backside again after tracking me in the middle lane for half a mile, thats why I eventually slowed to under 70 and let him "wizz" past

Was just pointing out, what we all know, that driving a high performance car will always attract the wrong sort of attention

Disagree with me if you want, I am not angel on the road (doubt many of us are) but don't call me a "problem" without the facts "mate"

Right before this gets out of hand……..

This was written as a light hearted attempt to add some humour and context into what was essentially a non-event, over the space of less than half a mile or so. The forum has become a place where lighthearted banter is getting rarer than hens teeth, and the amount of 'opinion' on here has reached all time high, which doesn't make it a fun place to frequent.

Yes it is full of artistic license - but with an underlying point that the S3 accelerates a LOT faster than the R32. I never once exceeded the speed limit; I'm not sure I have come across any legislation that prevents me from using the full power that my car develops, if it is safe for me to do so (and it was, as the dual carriageway was clear of any conflicting traffic when I joined it), to make progress by accelerating to the speed limit. The fact that the car behind me (ergo the R32), couldn’t accelerate at the same rate of me - is not my problem. The fact that when traffic (a couple of cars) slowed my progress, and I slowed down (to pass some trucks, which the cars had pulled out to do), and the driver in the car behind came up really close to me (again nothing I could do), is again not my fault. I wasn’t going to a) brake, b) pull-in (I was overtaking some trucks at ~60mph) at the time, left me with only one option - open the gap when I was able to do so.

What artistic license prevented me from saying in the sentence “I'm sorry however, that was the last I saw of you... You disappeared from my rear view mirror, but I was sure you wanted to remain close”…. was the fact that, I pulled into the petrol station to a) fill up and b) get the tw@t off of my tail.

Likewise, thats why on the third time him crawled into my boot I pulled into the inside lane after pulling away and slowed to below 70 so he could pass and "go on his merry way".

I apologise if I perhaps over reacted.

By the way I used to have an R32 and never really rated it, never felt very quick.

No problem, no offence taken, sometimes odd words hit a sore spot, buts its forum after all and we are all grown men!!!! In hindsight maybe I should not have pulled away on the third occasion!!!

None taken - it was of course just a bit of light humour, that I was desperate to prevent from turning into a cake and **** party!

Such delusions of grandeur.
I liken the original post to a school yard disagreement where the topic was "I am better than you because......".
It will come down to what your dad's job is/was. Did you get a chance to ask the R32 driver? That's the only way to settle this.

Im afraid im with Craig on this one... Very well written post but I honestly cant even take any humor out of it as its just so stupid! You out accelerated a 250bhp heavy 6 cylinder Golf with your lighter, more modern 300bhp s3. Call the local tabloids.... Then the whiff of elitism as well.... I think Im done with this thread already.

Mods please lock/delete this thread - it was intended as light hearted banter, it was written in that style but it has clearly failed to meet its fun potential!!!

Regretfully, there are some who have forgotten than this is supposed to be a fun place to be......

well lets just hope he doesn't go home and bolt on a supercharger then hammer your nice new rs3 into the weeds lol

:oncomingpolice:any way you should not be driving in such away

the fun police will be ready to take you down:pileofpoop:

Had that 3.2 in the TT and with an APR map it made the mid range truly sweet. Yes not as light as the S3 but with my milltek and suspension it was blooming good fun!!

I thought it was funny, some people need to relax more.

TX.

Others on the road should be ignored. It was a similar situation that led to me being stopped for exceeding the speed limit. Yes, I was speeding, however, everything else I was doing was perfectly safe which is why I think the copper let me off with a speed awareness course (I was exceeding the speed range where this would normally be given). So my mantra if someone is egging me in now is "let the w*****s be on their way"

The thing is, you never know why the person behind you is in such a rush. They maybe just a racer but they may also be trying to get back to an ill child or injured family member. You don't know, you are not the police, its not your place to slow someone down.

I was in a serious rush one very early morning around 2.00am trying to get Tracey from Brum to Kent because her father had suffered a heart attack, he passed well before we got there but if anyone had done the "pull in front to slow me down" routine I would not have been very chuffed.

If someone get right up your ***, pull over and let them pass, let them have the accident with someone else.
Try thinking about other road users a bit more, we may just lose the tosser in a Audi reputation.
