Speed Camera POI

Nope mine was not having any of it. Just downloaded the files again from pocketgps world but this time for just the UK rather than Europe. Zoom level set to 30 and system updated so will see what happens on the way home tonight.

Having now had a look at the SD Sat nav I can't see anything in the menu's that allow you to update it and choose points of interest unless I am missing something. TBH only had a small chance to look at it as the wife hates me fiddling when she is driving!

How do the specs warnings work? Is there a POI at each end of the run, or just one that covers the whole lot? I might change the icon for those to signal the difference too, but looks good!

Just tried and I get:

The updates are not compatible or are outdated.

I have the basic SD nav pack.

It's working - guess the data for the whole of Europe was too much for it !!!

@Rob2k68 - not tried Europe, just UK. Glad you've got it working.

@cemerson - the database from PGSW has all the SPECS cameras, not just start and end. Not bad idea to change the icon, but I am not 100% sure of which camera is which, so I just have the same icon and become wary as I get near!

I've changed my icons to be the same too for gatso and specs as the yellow icon drawers your attention better.

Rather than going through all the Connect process again I just replaced image_5.png with the same as image_7.png (may not be those numbers but you get the idea).

if anyone can get the camera proximity alert working that would be AMAZING !!!!

@gbernard - not that simple. The data is stored in a database file, which I can look at. I will have a stab at making some changes, but then it has to be recomposed and a checksum created so that the MMI accepts it as authentic. Not out of the question, but needs a bit of time. If I crack, don't worry, I'll let everyone know!

i did not say it was simple, I said it would be amazing, and if you crack it, by default, YOU would be amazing !! :)

when I try to add the .csv file to myaudi.co.uk it asks me to save the file, should I save these file to my sd card before I click download on muaudi.co.uk?

Think it's asking you for the location of where to save the files to - make a temp folder on your desktop them browse to it as a target then once the download is complete drag the contents of the temp folder onto your SD card.

My suspicion is that despite the database structure having a column for the warning distance (maybe?!) that the system itself will not respond to the data. I don't believe there are any pre-existing POIs that ping up when within proximity. And then there's direction - as it would ping (if it could) for cameras that were unrelated.

yes i can confirm that this does work very well. :D cheers taurus i have loaded redlight, specs and gatso for UK AND EURO. thanks again man :D

Taurus do you know if it follow any of the garmin standards ?

On a Garmin the Speed information in the individual POI name is preceded by the "@" sign: “Speed@20”. Speed information in the filename is preceded by an underscore, “Speed_30”. Any number below 125 (mph) or 200 (kph) is considered valid speed information.

The file I have has each Camera name / POI as "F-30, GB-United Kingdom, 31539" I could change a local Camera name to
"speed_30, GB-United Kingdom, 31539" and see what happens?

Proximity Alert Information
Proximity alerts are triggered by speed information, keywords in the POI name or filename, information entered in manual mode, or entered in BaseCamp’s waypoint properties proximity field.

Certain keywords included in the POI name or filename trigger proximity alerts. If a filename contains “GATSO,” “mobile,” "SPECS,” “safety,” “speed,” “redlight” or “camera” but does not have any speed information, the POI Loader uses an alert speed of 0 which always generates an alert at a distance of 400 meters or .25 miles. Proximity alert information can also be added to individual POIs using BaseCamp.

@PDE - you are right in the fact that the POIs are named with the details of direction and the speed for the alert. That bit is not the problem. What is the problem is that the database that is created by myAudi is in a specific format (VAG scramble the lat/long in to a searchable format) and that it is highly unlikely that the MMI system responds to this information. The data from PGSW contains the info, as some systems will respond to it. It does not look like myAudi does and I have not yet seen any info to indicate otherwise.

We need someone who works at Magneti Marelli to get us some inside info, I take it they produce the system for VAG?

Looks like nobody got it to work on SD Sat Nav? I can't see anything to do with "Update" on mine.

Have you tried removing the sd nav database sd-card and seen if there is an option to add poi's in that? backup the original card before you edit.

Yes - I have seen that. It was also there in POI data files on my VW from a few years ago. Not tried to see if anything responds to it. The other issue is that once you edit the POI database, then the checksum for the file is invalid, so the MMI will refuse to import it. I have a way around that, but need time to document it and test.

@taurus
for most of the files I don't have a problem with the checksum I just use Microsoft File Checksum Integrity Verifier tool "fciv.exe"
apart from the poidata.db this shows 2 checksums in the hashes.txt, is this due to it being a database ?

For those with an SD Satnav who cant update the maps and want audible speed camera alerts instead, I use copilot (£20) downloaded onto my phone and drive around with it on map mode, obviously whilst its being charged !

This is brilliant!! I followed the instructions and all worked fine. I then went a step further and threw together some different icons for each of the camera types (they have to be 200 x 200 otherwise the whole thing won't work). Here's a screenshot of it working, and I've attached each speed camera type icon too...

Gatso Mobile PMobile Red Light Specs

At some stage I'll do them a little better, but figured a bit of differentiation might be a good step in the right direction.

Enjoy!

Awesome !! Nicely done - thanks.

What's the greyed out mobile icon for ?

Its for what is labelled as pmobile, which as I understand it is Mobile camera's that are pending verification. I didn't do too much reading about it, so figured a greyed out version of the same icon would be enough for a first draft.

@WetFishDB - brilliant! Thank you. Will do an update to my data ASAP!

No worries. At some point I might update them as they support transparency so the square shape is unnecessary. If anyone has any suggestions or links to something I can reproduce, let me know.

This is amazing will try to get working in my s3 tomorrow and post results.

I'd love to know if there was a workaround to maintain the Google Earth overlay. I can't disable that as it is one of the cherries which drew me to the HDD version.

I've not been able to find anything yet. Seems it's either google maps or Audi. No in between.

About to try this on mine. Do you need a subscription to pocketgpsworld to get the initial POIs?

Yeah. And if you do the subscription, make sure to cancel it if you don't want it to come out again in a years time.
