Haldex broken - no 4 wheel drive

The new M2 should be good!

I loved the E46 M3. I think that was a stunning handling car, especially in CSL guise.

I've not driven a new one that quite matches that beauty yet!

Would I get a BMW? I have an open mind!

Highly recommend a 3 Series in all guises!

Especially good if you like crashing in to things :relaxed:

Surely an S3 should be able to take as much hard driving as you can throw at it?
I drove my Scoob2001WRX hard from 69k upto 155k and the worst thing I had was the abs pump at 155k...aren't newer cars supposed to be more reliable?
---ALWAYS drove ATLEAST 7 miles before going over 2.5k revs though. Check fluids and tyre pressures every Saturday. -----

^ you would have thought so, wouldn't you.

On YouTube, is a German review of the S3, the great Walter Rohrl driving a poor journalist around a track. The poor girl looks terrified, and closes her eyes for half the circuit!

At the end, they are just chatting, and she asks something about driving the S3 hard in such a manner all the time, Walter replies to the effect that the car wasn't designed to be driven in such a manner all the time, and the only car that would stand up to such driving daily was a Porsche.......

And indeed, also on YouTube, is a Porsche, demonstrating back to back, non stop 50 Launch Controls.

The problem with BMW's is they are not great in UK weather. You also have the added problem of horrendous run flat tyres that cost a bomb, and come winter you either switch to winter tyres (pain in the ****) or don't drive.

Oh, and did I mention you don't have a tyre well and no spare tyre, so you must legally carry around some glue for your tyres?

Impractical cars, but they seem to sell well. In my area, every dumb blonde under 24 has a 1 series, presumably paid for by daddy.

I will be proper gutted if my S3 breaks down and then my dad drives past in my fooking Scooby!:(

But...to be fair, I can't really comment on the S3 yet as I have only had it 2 weeks and it has performed flawlessly so far. I really gave it some last night and it was in a different league to my Scooby...especially when I was in manual mode.
---The wife absolutely adores it...
---It fits the massive Cybex Sirona baby seat in it even behind my driving position which I couldn't do in the Scoob (I have lots of padding to protect the seats).
---I've been getting around 29mpg so far(Scoob does 25 when I'm in granny mode)
---the interior is #totesamazeballs
---when we look after our mates 2 kids...the wife can put three isofix seats in it
---it does look very slick
---I can play spotify through the speakers
---but it costs lots of wonga!

Your dad would just drive past you in such circumstances? What have you done to upset the guy that that he would leave his son on the side of the road. ;)

Sweet car that E46 M3 CSL. You see a clean one and it still looks fresh a decade on.

Mate used to own one - think he sold it on for a £4k profit after 12 months driving such was the demand for them 5 years ago. I suspect they are silly money now......

Last of the proper "quality" BMW's. All went down hill with the E92 - both styling and quality wise.

On a side note veeeight - Mrs Pulp has been got a provisional test drive of uprated engine version on the CLA 45 shooting brake. Only issue is it won't be here until last week of October :(

Lovely looking car that shooting brake in the flesh.

Good to hear some positive comments about it despite veights problems. Looking forward to mine which I put an order in for last weekend, but haven't been given a build week yet. I take it yours is a sportback mate?

Yeah 4K...it's a Sportback, Sepang Blue STronic....had the super sports seats and privacy glass and comfort pack. It's pretty epic...so far;)

It's booked in for next week .......... :(

You didn't really think it would get in instantly, did you :lmfao:

(It will probably be an A1) :lmfao:

I got an A1 as well fro my faulty S3, it's pretty much the only thing they have ready as replacement over here.

Small off-topic: yesterday my 8V S3 was parked aside an 8P and we had both the trunk door open. The 8P has carefully hidden hinges with plastic protection. My 8V had metal hinges with screws and bolt in sight. Every new model it seems they are going to cut costs on costs. My father 8L lasted 15 years and 200k km without a fault. And it had a complex and amazing mechanism for accessing the rear seats plus other sophistications I never seen on the newer models. End off topic.

BTW my S3 is driven daily like a Fiat Panda, just to go back and forth from office. In its first 18k km I had the driver seats frame changed twice due to noises and play. Guys: the first spare part was defective too! After a week a midrange of the B&O system has been replaced because of cracklings at low volume.

Then it developed the whine and Audi does not know what to do. They changed the expansion valve of the air con due a technical bulletin that allegedly stated that the whine could depend by this. It did not fix the issue but it created a new issue! Now with the engine at idle and the air con on you hear a "bubbling" noise from the air vents!

18.000 km and I visited the dealer more than any other car I had.

Just to close the circle: my mother's A1 in its first 2000 km had a faulty coil that required the car to be towed to the dealer and a massive flood inside the cabin due to a defectively glued windscreen.

Sorry to say that my next car will be not an Audi. Unfortunately I do not like BMWs.

^Not good.

Yesterday I had a new discovery.

When I switched off, there was a gurgling sound of air/water when the water pump activated after switch off.
And a smell of hot coolant outside the car.

Oh joy.

Maybe I shouldn't ask but,
What does that mean?

Air has got into the coolant system, and/or I've got a coolant leak :(

OMG. Sounds like the Amityville car.... Possessed I tell you....
Try hanging garlic from the rear view mirror.

Hi mate, lts a angry feeling we all get when something goes wrong with our new cars, that Never SHOULD.......ESPECIALLY when we really dont bond with it,Been there with my Focus ST cracking drivers car indeed, but l had everything barring Goldfish in my front headlamps it took me almost 3 months for Ford to replace them, even had to drive around for 3 weeks with different coloured Beseled xenon headlamps one Black one Silver because they had fitted the wrong colour type of headlamp, the Led door sill lights where change 5 times, the Keyless entry sensors stopped working/replaced twice plus a few more things went wrong, but it's nearly 18 months old,you need deep pockets to change but l for one wouldn't go anywhere near bmw or Merc just don't like them at all except for the M4 which is mega bucks,Bide yer time with S3 time will come around soon enough to change

Oddly mine has been fine, and it gets driven pretty hard (I hammer the haldex enough to wear the front and rear tyres at roughly the same rate).

Took mine for a really spirited drive in the sun yesterday afternoon on a privately owned road. Didn't feel anything odd so am assuming mines all good for now. Have had even trye wear since the beginning as well!

If I didnt need four doors and the ability to seat four adults then I would seriously consider a Cayman, doubt if it would be new though.

Whatever it was it wouldnt be blue.

Should have bought a Golf R.

maybe, but I had enough issues with my mk6 GTI , to be in no hurry to go back - multiple water pumps, leaking turbos, ac compressor (lasted 3 days from new) and inlet manifold, every repair a s*** fight and no loan car ever offered. It took them 2 months to get a replacement compressor, nothing like an aussie summer with no air-conditioning
