So,

After taking out the new RS3 at the weekend and working out some figures, I'm pretty tempted to sell up and move on. Why not, eh?

But the question is, do I keep my S3 as it is and try and sell it with the list of mods? Or do I split the car, putting it completely back to standard and try and get some money back from the mods? I have all the standard parts hidden away ready to go back on, apart from the exhaust which I may have to source. But is it worth the time?

List of mods;

RS3 front grille.
Recaro bucket seats.
BBS CH on Michelin pilot sports.
AP coilovers.
Whiteline adjustable drop links (Front & rear.)
Forge 6 pot front brake set up.
Airtec front mount intercooler.
Full Milltek TBE (Sports cat and res.)
ITG Maxogen CAI.
TTS engine cover.
New south boost gauge and steering column pod.
Garage midnight PCV delete.
APR Stage 2 map.

could work either way , some people like unmolested cars , i would prefer to find one thats already done ,saves alot of time sourcing parts etc , maybe list it with parts off but state that for x amount you will leave all the mods on it

How big are those BBS ch's? I might be interested if selling.

When I was looking I wasn't really too fussed if it was modified or not, but I see what you mean mate.

In all honesty mate, I think the BBS' will probably be staying and put onto the new car... If they fit.

You'd certainly recoupe more money splitting

Id split/keep bits on it.

Things like brakes, recaros, arb, id remove and sell onwards.

Stuff like exhaust etc, may effect its running, thus making it harder to sell, so id keep them on.

Ps id be interested in the brakes

I personally would split some things, but leave other choice parts on to make it stand out from the rest.

I don't think you would have trouble selling stuff though so doubt there will be many headaches.

May PM you if and when they come off dude.

Only headache is having to round up all of the parts, and paying someone to put it back to standard... As I'm not much of a mechanic haha

I've just re-read your list of mods, yeah big headache getting them removed if you don't have the right tools lol. Might be worth a shot putting it up with all the mods but you may lose a bit of money for the advertising if you use Piston Heads or AutoTrader

Whatever you do that is one lovely car, nice to see a modded car that hasn't been chavved up.

You'll never ever get back what you put into it by selling all the mods on the car. Selling it with mods is aiming at a very small market and potential buyers may not appreciate what you've put into it, because in their head, "we could have done it cheaper, he's probably making a raise on us" etc.

Putting it back to standard will give you a lot more potential customers. A much higher chance of selling your car

And then you can recoup as much as possible on the parts

That's my advice, and that's what I'd do anyway. You do whats best for you

Depends how quick you wanna sell it I guess eBay can be good for modded cars wouldn't bother with auto trader might be worth advertising on a few forums

Yeah, on the contrary to my comment, you can look at it from another angle. 'There's not another one exactly like yours for sale' . And for the modders, it might be more convenient to just buy one that's already done

Depends on who's looking at it really... Some like their cars standard so they can make it their own, others like a car already done so they've not to worry putting money into it. I've kept the exterior pretty simple, and to be honest it just looks like a nice, clean S3.

And I realise I'll not get the money back I've spent on modifications... But you never will. I've spent close to £7k just to make it they way I want it.

Anyway, car is for sale with two prices and two separate options. Modded or completely standard.

£11k mate!
I nearly head butted him haha.

Done the research on eBay/pistonheads/auto trader. And standard cars with the same sort of mileage and spec are still going for £17-18k

I'll take it off your hands for 11K cash

I e just ordered a new rs3 and audi did not want to px my car unless standard so I stripped my parts off sold for good price. And then got a great deal for my s3 from audi . I think there is a bigger market for a standard s3 with fmdsh but that my way of thinking I could well be wrong. But as I px with audi dealer that's what they wanted.

Yeah they told me if I was to trade it in, they're prefer it standard. Just so they can sell it on their forecourt rather than having to send it to auction for having non genuine parts on. Trading it in would be my last resort if no one was to buy it.

The guaranteed heartache/expense of leaving it back to standard, compared to the possibility of getting more of your money back listing and selling everything individually.... Id be selling it as it sits. And if I was you I wouldnt be letting it go for any less than 15K.

That's pretty much my bottom figure like. Few parts taken off the car and sold seperatley and I'll have myself a nice deposit.

I'd be interested in the RS3 grille if you're splitting. Is it genuine OEM one?

No mate, its a Xenon one. Pretty good fit though.
Not sure it would fit yours though with it being a pre facelift?
Oh ye, damn, good point. Most likely wouldn't fit. Good luck with whatever you decide to do :)

Personally I would see if anyone within the "modified scene" would buy it as it is. If you get no luck put it back to normal and then try sell it as standard or trade it in for the RS3.
