Hi all,

Hope you're having a great Sunday. I wonder if anyone can answer this silly question. I'm trying to check the tyre pressure on my A3 Sportback before going on a journey tomm. I've found the sticker on the drivers door but cannot seem to work out what the correct pressure is from all the options listed on it.

I've attached a pic of the sticker and my wheel info. I did do a forum search but came up with all different wheel sizes / settings and not any of mine! Many thanks if you can help.

Regards Trevor

Something doesn't seem right there as your tyre isn't even listed, other than in a mud and snow variant. Have you got factory standard wheels / tyres?

FYI I believe my chart shows something like 41 / 39 front / rear for a 225/40/18 on a sportback.

That's what confused me tbh. Yeh they are Audi fitted wheels. They are the 18" 10 spoke design titanium matt alloys. The tyres are the standard contisport tyres.

Your tyres are: 225/40 R18 92Y XL

Normal Use:
Front 39
Rear 36

Fully Loaded with passengers & luggage
Front 39
Rear 41

Thanks @veeeight it just seemed to be a load of options. Maybe I'm knackered after cleaning the car and missed it. Appreciate all help.

I run 35 front and 32 rear variant on my S line with the above tyres. It does seem to handle better. The info in the manual says you will get lower MPG with this set up. I must say I haven't noticed.

Is anyone else using the optional normal use pressures?

Any Audi always seems to be hovering around the 35 psi/2.2 Bar front and back pressure mark. Slight deviations don't make any difference unless the tyres got a puncture etc..

The only caveat is that if you are running XL tyres, these have re-enforced sidewalls, and have to run at higher pressures to support dynamic loads properly.

A deviation of -2 or 3 psi is fine (at your own risk) - any more than that and you will run into different problems.

As Audi recommend this set up I'm happy. I'm now 9k in on these tyres and there is no premature wearing etc..

So on my new S3 as per the ticket on the door for 225/40 R18 XL 92Y I am running

38 PSI Front and 35 PSI back

This says up to 3 passengers.

But the car only ever has me in it ! I was wondering whether to go a little lower but I like everything to be spot on ! I usually check pressures and fluids in car once a week, tyres probably twice a week ....

^ click on the link in post #9.

It will explain the variables and trade offs of changing your tyre pressures.

With you in the car you have two options

39 Front 36 Rear

Or

35 Front 32 Rear

The manual says the latter will compromise MPG....not so ECO!

With s3 you don't get the economy option, my sticker has two sets of pressures one for up to 3passengers and other for full load.
