My friend had his near totally stock Fabia VRS (1st gen 1.9tdi 130bhp) mapped, but before they applied the map it dyno'd at 150bhp!

He had a cat back exhaust fitted but this would only produce +/- 5bhp max and the car has no other mods.

Anyone had similar experience's or know something I don't about stock map's being higher than what the manufacturer quotes them to be?

Not uncommon for a 130 to be 139 compounded by a Jackanory dyno and you have 150 bhp .

The exhaust may work well but it's still got the cat .

It's a Dimsport 2WD braked chassis dynamometer with a Rotronics dyno acquisition and control system, just can't picture it being off by 20bhp.

It's probably not off by 20bhp as above they usually dyno more than the 130bhp and if it had an exhaust mod that can make something like 5-6bhp so assuming it started off at say 137 with the exhaust mod 142 the dyno would only be 8bhp out.
What did it make in the end somewhere between 185-190bhp ?

There was an article in autocar many years ago, they did a dyno on the pd130 engine in a golf4 I think? Even they said at the time, that VW was making more power than advertised. So a nicely run in example, in the right conditions and maybe vpower diesel, would make 150?

As above, try a Dyno Dynamics dyno also known as the heart breaker... A dyno can be told to show anything, it's all in the conversion factor and if the car is not strapped properly then it can show instant gains as the rollers slip ! Take it with a pinch of salt unless the car was already mapped...

That's true, different kettle of fish but they did the same with 106 GTI's and Saxo VTS's, same engine but one was tested with perfect conditions (I forget which) and ended up claiming faster 0-60 times coupled with a higher insurance band.

Nope ended with 160bhp which makes the story even more crazy.

Thats fairly lame I would have expected more like 180bhp but with the possible dyno error issues it would have read higher. But 160bhp is pretty poor.

Supposedly the EGR was clogged, wouldn't have thought it would make that much of a difference though and definitely thought if it was 150bhp stock it should have made more than 160bhp. He's having a new EGR fitted (despite my advise to clean or get rid of it) then getting it dyno'd again.
